Enoch and His Example

now if you if you're able take your bibl stand with me we're going to look at Hebrews chap 11 Hebrews chap 11 we'll look at uh verse 5 and verse 6 together it says by faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death and he was not found because God had taken him for before he was taken he had this testimony that he pleased God that he pleased God let's pray together Jesus thank you for your presence I pray that today nothing would hinder us from receiving hearing and receiving your word into our hearts because God I'm convinced that you've got a word for us today so God I pray that you would steal and silence all the distractions and allow us to focus on you during this time and I ask this in jesus' name and together everybody said amen you can be seated now Pastor Benny last Sunday started a sermon series entitled help from Heroes now we all need some help right we need some help all God's people said amen we need help and we need to find help from some Heroes some biblical Heroes that have lived before us that have gone before us and that we could learn from and he started with Abraham and the altars if you miss that message you need to go back and catch that message there's so many important points that you need for your life but today I want to talk to us about Enoch and his example about Enoch and his example now as moms and dads as parents you know we're always an example we're always an example to our children now I've got uh a family of five my wife and I we had three children and um I I don't recommend that um at least not the same three um but we are a family family of five and you know when you go anywhere with a family of five it just it's just a it's an ordeal I mean it's just especially when they're young and and it you know you walk into a restaurant you've got four people they can seat you fairly quickly they're ready for that but if you walk into a restaurant with a family of five it's a 20 minute wait at McDonald's like it doesn't matter like it just stuns them to have to drag another chair up and make room for a fifth person it's just they're not ready for it so we we when they where kids were young you know we we uh there's a lot of times you know you just didn't go inside or whatever but one of the times we were going through a drive-thru and we were going through the drive-through and that's you need medication to go through a drive-thru with a family of five to be honest with you especially when they were young and and so we pull up to the drive-thru and we start to order and they start yelling out what they want Mama's trying to transfer that to me and I'm trying to tell her and we're trying to sort it all out work through it all and uh meanwhile I'm staring at the menu board and they've got this pretty menu board and on the menu board there's this beautiful picture of cheese sticks with marinara and I like cheese sticks and so as they're ordering I'm transferring right when we get to the end I said and I'd like some cheese sticks she said no problem would you like a small or a large order and I'm thinking well we got a family of five if I pull one cheese stick out I'm going to have to share it everybody likes a cheese stick so I said I'll take the large order cheese sticks she said no problem we pull to the front we get up to the front of the line and we pay the lady and she starts handing the food out the drinks out and if you've not been to a drive-thru this decade maybe you don't know this but you don't drive off from that window without looking in that bag if you drive off from the window without looking in the bag one of two things are about to happen you're either going to be mad or you're coming back mad so you don't leave the drive-thru so we sat in the Drive-Thru the door she shuts the door she gets tired away and she walks off we're checking through the handing the drinks out making sure everything's there and my wife looks at me she said they forgot your marinara I said no problem start flagging down she comes back over to the window she opens the window yes sir can I help you I said said ma'am I'm sorry but you forgot my marinara she said no no we I didn't forget it she said you got to ask for it well doll I'm asking I said well um does it come with marinara cuz it was in the picture and she said yes it comes with marinara it's fine that you get marinara but you have to ask for it and I said well when I bought the cheese sticks did I pay for the marinara she said you did pay for the marinara but I still got to ask for it she said yes you do have to ask for it that's our policy because we have noticed that people don't use the marinara we have noticed that they actually will just throw the marinera away they don't want the marinara and I said ma'am if I paid for the Mariner it really doesn't matter to you what I do with it if I dip my nose in it if I throw it at a stop sign riding down the road it's really none of your business what I do with the marinara that I bought she saidwell I'm sorry you feel that way but that is our policy and I saidwell that's a dumb policy she said well it's our manager's policy and I said well you can tell your manager it's a dumb policy she said I will I'll tell my manager somebody from Rock Springs Church said if it's a dumb policy I look down and I'm wearing a rock spring shirt about that time the Holy Spirit In Dove format flew off my shoulder and left the car and all that was left in the car was just me and I said better than that ma'am you tell them that Cameron schiffler the EXE Pastor from Rock Spring's Church thinks that's a dumb policy I got my marinara Meanwhile my children were mortified and we drove off and I realized I probably wasn't the greatest example but Enoch on the other hand was a good example and we can learn a lot from Enoch so I want us to see three quick things that we'll unpack a little bit later in the service but I want to go through them and lay a foundation for us and the first thing is the manner of Enoch I want you to I want you to write that down the manner of Enoch now Enoch and his story is it's only mentioned three times throughout the whole Bible and we we talked about the first one in Hebrews but we're going to look at these three areas and gather what we can from these three areas uh throughout today throughout this sermon so Genesis chter 5 it says and when Enoch had lived 65 years heathered Methuselah and then in verse 22 it said and Enoch walked with God so we know from that verse that the manner of Enoch was that he walked with God now we've heard of people that have walked after God they've walked before God they've walked in God but there's only two people in the entire word of God where they walked with God and that's Enoch in Genesis 5 and Noah one chapter over in Genesis 6 there's just two guys that the Bible records as Walking with God we know that it's the manner of Enoch that he walked with God number two is the ministry of Enoch now we're laying a foundation the ministry of Enoch I told you there were three places this is the third it's in Jude chapter 1 there's only one chapter in Jude if you ever want to say I read a whole book of the Bible just go to Jude Jude it's the easiest spot to do it it's just one chapter Jude 1: 14:15 it says now Enoch who was the seventh from Adam prophesied about these men also saying behold the Lord comes with 10, thousands of his Saints and what is he coming to do to execute judgment on all and to convict all who are what ungodly so Enoch was proph prophesying that judgment was on the way now if we were to lay out a timeline for you to see we would know that we have Adam and Eve we have the beginning where the garden started we we have the very beginning of creation and Adam and Eve Liv 930 years and then we start stepping down through the line of Christ and we get to Enoch 622 years after Adam and Eve started we have Enoch and Enoch with the beginning in mind with the beginning still in Focus Enoch sees the end he sees judgment coming on all the ungodly so we see that Enoch had a Ministry of proclaiming that judgment was coming but not only that we see number three the move of Enoch the move of Enoch and we're going to spend more time on all this so don't worry the move of En Hebrews 11:5 the Bible says this and by faith Faith Enoch was taken away he was taken away so that he did not see death and he was not found so we know that Enoch was taken away that's Hebrews 11:5 but in Genesis 5 we read that Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him he was not now the Russians they have cosmonauts Americans they have astronauts God had a wasnot he he was here and he was not it just boom he was he was on Earth and then he was gone he was in heaven God took him it was the move of Enoch now with that foundation in mind I want to step you through three more things that I think we can learn from the life of Enoch the first one is this I want us to see his trip with God his trip with God now again we've only got three places to look so we're going to strain everything we can out of those three in Genesis CH 5: 21 it said when Enoch had lived 65 years now we don't know a lot about the first 65 years it doesn't say the Bible's silent we don't know if what kind of relationship he had with God was he devoted to God was he Walking with God was he was he uh spending time with God was he growing in his faith we have no idea but what we do know according to the next verse Genesis 5:22 is that Enoch walked with God when after after heathered Methuselah so what we do know is apparently he wasn't Walking with God before he fathered Methuselah because the Bible says he didn't start until after heathered methusa you follow me so something must have happened something must have happened in the life of Enoch around about the time where this son was going to be born now the Bible doesn't tell us if he had Sons before that or daughters before that or it is it does tell us that he had more after that but we don't know if that was his firstborn son or what but what we do know is that he named him Methuselah now that's an odd name we had we had Adam we had Eve we had Cain we had Seth I mean we had some pretty normal names trailing along there and then we get like a Methuselah like I mean you're in school like methusa here here jeez well the the name methusa it's not only interesting just in how it sounds it's interesting in what it means Methuselah it means when he is dead it shall be sent when he is dead it shall be sent again that's an odd thing to name a kid apparently something happened right about the time of his birth that influenced his name apparently what Jude is telling us that he saw judgment with the Lord coming with 10,000 of his angels although that be future and not yet he saw something imminent and coming soon judgment was coming on the ungodly soon and he said I'm naming my kid and when he is dead it shall be sent because do you know what was sent at the end of Methuselah's life Methuselah had a son named L lamech had a son that you know by the name of Noah and at the very end of Methuselah's life when he died judgment came Enoch saw it he saw it he knew something was coming he had had an encounter with God it was his trip with God where the first 65 years there was nothing worth recording but after he saw the vision and realized that God's coming it's not just some fake thing it's not just something that everybody's saying this is real and listen with the beginning in mind nobody would have been thinking about the end nobody would have been thinking about judgment but he said it's coming it's coming and it changed his life and for the next 300 years he was known as someone who walked with God he walked with God it's his trip with God and see if we're going to walk with God if you and I are going to walk with God we got to have some things in order and here they come first you got to be in agreement you got to be in agreement you listen Amos 3:3 says how can two walk together unless they agree unless they be agreed how how in the world can you walk together you can't if you and your wife aren't agreeing guess what y'all may be in the car together but you ain't walking together you have to be in agreement the same is true with God you say well I don't understand I don't know what I'm supposed to be in agreement with God over well you can just start with God you're right I'm wrong I agree you can just start with the fact God you're omniscient I'm not I agree God you're omnipotent all powerful and I'm not I agree God you're working all things for my good I understand I don't I don't know how all that works but I agree you're Sovereign I trust you see we've got to agree maybe first and foremost that as the Bible says in Romans 3:10 there are none righteous know not one even as good as you think you are you better agree and realize that you're not righteous you're not right with God because the Bible tells us that for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God we know that and I got to come into agreement with it and we've got to realize that the wages for our sin is death that the price we should have to pay as a result of our sins it should be death but it tells us that the gift of God is eternal life how through Christ Jesus our lord we got to agree with it we've got to agree that God demonstrated his love he proved it to me and you that he loved us you say how he demonstrated his love in that while we were still Sinners what did he do Christ died for us he paid the price he paid my debt he paid your debt because the wages of sin remember was death but he paid it for you and we got to agree that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved that God has provided a way of Escape for me and for you to avoid the coming judgment because God has made a way we've got to agree but not only that we must be in alignment we got to be in alignment the Bible tells us in Psalms 11915 it says your word is a lamp to my feet remember we're walking he said your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path how many of you have gotten up in the middle of the night to go on one of your three or four bathroom breaks oh if you ain't experienced it yet it's coming but you got up I think I'd have to stop drinking it like lunch to make it all the way through the night that's irrelevant but you've gotten up in the middle of the night and something ironically is in the room that you didn't go to bed realizing was right there and you found it with your toes that's when that Dove just gone you need a light but see hey it says the word of God is a light it's a lamp to your feet a lot of us are going throughout our life as Believers and we have no idea where to go where to turn what to do how to think how to respond what to say how to act how to treat people because we don't have the light Hosea 4:6 he said my people are destroyed for their lack of knowledge they're destroyed people are being destroyed Believers are destroyed because they have no idea what's in this book see but not only that Galatians 5 tells us more that we've got to be in alignment with it says Walk we're walking how in the spirit we've got to walk in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit we have to have the spirit of God so we have to have the word of God but we have to have the spirit of God in order to come come into alignment with God and walk with God as Enoch did see we we see his trip with God but number two we see his testimony for God his testimony for God now in Hebrews 11:5 the Bible says this it says for before he was taken up before he was taken up so that's 300 years right there before he was taken up so for 300 years not the first 65 remember but the next 300 he was known as a person who pleased God he changed his lifestyle he changed his habits he changed his patterns he changed the direction in which he was walking and he started walking with God and he was known he built a reputation as one who was going to follow God and please God see Enoch had a testimony he had something he was known for now we all have testimonies we all have things we're known for and I hope to God I don't go down as known for somebody got sideways over some marinera that place ain't in business no more either by the way they must ass shorted it's a more folks on marinara but we all have a testim ony I wonder what it will be at the end of my life what I will be known for I wonder for you what will it be for you that at the end of your life you will have been known for what will be your testimony what will people say of you will they say that you lived your life to please yourself will they say that you lived your life and you set goals for yourself and you wanted to accomplish more and more and more and acquire more and more and more and it was about you or will they say you lived your life to please others to please people to say yes to everybody just to try to please people or will they say that you lived your life to please God what will they say what will you be known for because listen if you please God it doesn't matter who you don't please it doesn't matter but hey if you don't please God it doesn't matter who you do please hey everybody May like you on Facebook and Instagram and hit you the like button and all the loves and hey it doesn't matter if you don't please God none of that matters 600 years before Jesus a Greek Storyteller lived that maybe you've heard of his name's Esa he said if you try to please all you please none see it's impossible to please all people but it's not impossible to please God it's not impossible to please God and the Bible tells us how to do it and I want to give it to you first you got to have salvation in God salvation in Christ and that's getting an agreement we talked about that agreement that's that's the foundational aspect you have to have salvation in Christ look at Hebrews 11:6 now we're still talking about Enoch remember Hebrews 11:5 said that by faith Enoch was taken to Heaven he was taken up all right he did he went to heaven by faith that's same way you're going to go to heaven amen Hebrews 11:6 it says and without faith if you don't have faith it's impossible to please God if you don't have faith in God it's impossible to please God you better start right there you better start making sure that you have experience salvation in Jesus Christ that your faith and trust and confidence has been firmly placed in the foundation and in the Cornerstone named Jesus Christ no matter what if he don't answer your prayer if he doesn't deliver you from your diagnosis if he doesn't make a way for you if he don't do what you he's not a Genie in a Bottle and if it don't work out like you think it should you still got to say God I'm with you Peter said you have the words of life God where else can I go I'm with you Shadrach Meshach abedo they said even if you slay us even if you don't show up even if we burn in this fiery pit I'm still going to stay with you I'm with you see we got to have salvation in Christ but if we want to please God we've got to be letter be we got to be spirit-led see there there comes the alignment we've got the agreement here comes the alignment it's being spirit-led Romans 88 tells us it says that's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature there are plenty of us there that are still under the control of our sinful nature we can't be there because we can never please God in that condition it says but you are not Believers Christians Body of Christ you're not controlled by your sinful nature you are controlled by the spirit God's people need to be controlled by his spirit amen hey it's the reason why we get so much negative PR as Christians and as Believers and why many people won't come to church is because they've already met a carnal Christian they wear they meet somebody who wears the banner of the name of Christ and they hold it against God but that person is not committed to Christ and they're not spirit-led and therefore they shame the name of Christ see if we're not going to do that we've got to be Spirit Le but if you want to please God not only do you have to be spirit-led you got to be let or see the third thing you've got to be sold out you got to be sold out it's time to stop playing Hokey Pokey Christianity you put your right foot in you put your right foot out when it's you need to you put your right leg in on a Sunday morning and shouts you know like I just made that up y'all the only service that got that hey you got to decide I'm going to be sold out look look what the Bible says in Colossians 1:10 it tells us walk hey we're walking walk in a manner worthy of the Lord fully pleasing to him how do we do it it tells us bearing fruit in every good work what does it mean to bear fruit with the fruits of the spirit are love and joy and peace patience gentleness uh Temperance self-control I there there are aspects that we've got to have and in every good work in every interaction that we have we should be exemplifying those attributes people should be seeing those traits they should be seeing the fruit of the spirit in every good work and also what else should we be doing we should be increasing in the knowledge of God hey it's not okay to be a Christian for 65 years and not know any more about the Bible than you did at the moment you believ that is not okay it's not okay what if you had a a child that was born and you you began to change his diapers and feed it milal and 65 years later you still changing diapers and you still feeding them meal that's a problem that's the kind of children that God's going to battle with a lot of the church we don't know our Bible we're not growing in our knowledge of the word of God we're not growing we're stagnant and stale we never open the book and we are destroyed because we don't know what's in it we're destroyed see if you want to live a life that's fully pleasing the Lord you got to be sold out it's time to stop playing but not only that if you want to please God you must have stewardship that's about to get quiet all the amens just stopped look what the Bible says in Hebrews it says do not neglect to do good and to share what you have for such sacrifices Paul's what did he say what did he say he he said if you're going to do good and you're going to share what you have do good not just to the people you like that's easy how are you going to treat the people you don't like how are you going to treat the people you don't agree with if you're going to do good and if you're going to share what you have share what I have I've worked hard for what I have you know what I've done you know how much I've worked to acquire what I've got you want me to share it he said what would it be for you a sacrifice he said it's going to be a sacrifice he didn't say it'd be easy he didn't say it'd come natur he didn't say like this you ain't even got to try it's just going to happen he said no it'll be a sacrifice but he said that sacrifice it's going to be pleasing to God if we'll share what we have it's going to be pleasing to God Tony Evans in his Pathways book he he said this he said when God blesses you he also has someone else in mind see God didn't bless you just to hoard it God blessed you so that you could be a blessing we are God's Representatives on Earth we are his ambassadors and when God blesses us he wants you to bless his people and bless other people and lead people to him through his goodness and mercy it's the goodness of God that leads men to repentance when we're good to him and we share what we have I ask you how are you stewarding what God's given you Greg Lori in a devotional article in 2014 he said the ultimate choice in life is between pleasing ourselves and pleasing God are you going to please yourself or are you going to please God see we got to have stewardship in our life it's all part of Enoch's testimony for God but number three his transition to God it's transition to God Genesis 5:24 says this it says in Enoch walk with God and he was not remember we talked about that he he was a was not and then it says for God took him see the Old Testament mostly was written in Hebrew also Aramaic but it mostly Hebrew it was written in Hebrew and the word here means snatch he he was here and he was not it happened in a Flash he was gone can you imagine with the timeline in in view can you imagine the aspect where you've got you've got Enoch Walking with God and you've got Adam and Eve and they said Enoch our great great great great great great grandson he's walking with God I I remember walking Walking with God remember Eve we walked with God in the garden you remember I know it's been I know it's been over 600 years you remember though now he's walking with Enoch he's walking with [Music] Enoch and they watch him walk with God for 300 years and then all of a sudden an is gone he's gone can you imagine Adam and Eve where's anoch where's my grandson where God took him why why' God take him why why didn't he take us we've been here for all this time why didn't he take us he took Enoch you see before the Judgment came that he saw and it impacted his life and he named his son Methuselah that when he is dead it shall be sent he saw judgment coming on the ungodly he saw it but before it came God took him he snatched him it reminds me of another part in the Bible where Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:7 he said and we who are alive and remain shall be caught up now Thessalonians New Testament was written in Greek this is thousands of years later not the same word but you know what this word means snatched and Paul said hey there's a body of people that are going to be walking with God and I'm going to snatch them away before judgment comes and he said it's going to happen in a moment in a twinkling of an eye and you know what you and I are going to be we're going to was not I'm going to be here one minute and then was not I'm going to be gone but I wonder do we see it do we see the example with Enoch the picture of the Rapture that Jesus is coming folks he's coming if you can't see this world headed towards judgment for all the ungodly as ungodly as it continues to get and continues to head out of control there's coming a day where God will judge the ungodly it's coming see Enoch saw it and it changed his life but do you see it and will it change your life see judgment did come and it changed his life and he started walking with God and when judgment finally arrived he was gone because God took him I wonder today how many of us will learn the lesson from Enoch and begin to change our lives and walk in agreement and in alignment and be sold out for God and grow in his word and walk and live a life pleasing to God will you before it's too late will you will you see we can learn a lot from the life of Enoch and there's a story all the way at the beginning there's a story for you and I right here in the end because I believe this is the last days it's wrapping up there's nothing left prophetically that has to happen they got the red heers over there they're ready to build the temple it's happening wake up it's happening but will you heed the warning will you see the signs and change your heart and life today just for a moment every head bowed all eyes are closed if you're here today and you say you know what I I've been playing games with God I really don't know if I've got Jesus Christ as my Foundation I don't know that I have come into agreement with God that I have salvation in Christ I don't know if that's you today no matter where you are if you're watching online or if you're in this room you say I don't know would you just slip your hand up Pastor pray for me I'm just not sure I'm I'm just not sure I'm not sure I see your hand yes there's others I see your hand you're not alone you're not alone there's others now I want to encourage you right where you are in the Silence of your mind and heart I encourage you to pray this prayer with me God today I realize that I need you I realize that I have to come into agreement and in alignment with you I have to first experience salvation in you so God I'm sorry for my sins my mistakes I confess you as Lord and I Call On You and I ask you to save me now help me to live for you and walk with you just as Enoch did for the rest of my life if that's you and you just say that said that prayer and you're in this room would you just softly raise your hand where I could see it you just say I've prayed that prayer are there others in the back I see your hand yes are there others that would say I prayed that prayer with you would you just raise your hand just so that somebody can come to you would you just raise your hand and allow them to help you and point you in the right direction if you're watching online and you prayed that prayer let us know would you put four words into that chat would you say I prayed that prayer right where you are I prayed that prayer all across this room the Lord dealt with your heart there's areas in your life where you need to get into alignment some Of You' been playing Church some of you been the same level of Christian for the last 30 years and you haven't progressed in your faith it's time it's time it's time to live a life that's pleasing to God and to sell out to him whatever the Lord's dealt with you in your heart you respond to him at the conclusion of this prayer God we love you we thank you for your spirit and your presence you have spoken to hearts and lives both in this room and on the other side of a camera or a computer screen all around the world so God you do what only you can do and that's change us to be more like you and God we love you and praise you in Jesus name amen
