about music, too. What's that, Dorothy? Ah, Dorothy has a question. How do you make music with a drum? Very good question, Dorothy. Let's watch Mr. Noodle play with a drum. Mr. Noodle! (playful, bouncy sounds) Come on shade, we want to see Mr. Noodle. Thank you. How do you play music
with a drum, Mr. Noodle? Show us. What, oh, no, no, no, you have to put
it in the front, Mr. Noodle. The drum goes in the
front, not in the back. You can't hit it that way. - [Girl] Turn it back around. - [Elmo] Go ahead, try again. - [Children] Try again, Mr. Noodle. - [Elmo] You can get it. - [Girl] He did it before. - [Elmo] Here you go, he did it, yay. (children cheer) But now get the drumsticks, Mr. Noodle. So you can hit the drum,
get the drumsticks now. - [Male] Yeah, boom, boom, boom, it's the drumsticks that you
make that boom, boom, boom. - [Elmo] Mr. Noodle, not that way, you're gonna hurt yourself
that way, Mr. Noodle. - [Girl] If you turn
around, it's the easier way to get the drumsticks. - [Elmo] No, not that way. - [Girl] That's the way to do it. - [Elmo] Yeah, yeah, do it that way. Okay, now, oh. He did it, he got the drumsticks! (children cheer) - [Girl] Now play music, play music! - [Elmo] Play the drum. (deep drum beat) Are you okay, Mr. Noodle? - [Girl] He looks like he's shivering. - He'll be fine, once he stops vibrating. Mr. Noodle. What's that Dorothy? Ah, Dorothy wants to ask someone else. How do you make music with a drum? (playful music) - Dorothy, this is how I play a drum. (drumbeats) - Dorothy, this is how I play a drum. (drumbeats) - Dorothy, this is how I play the drums. (plays drums) - Thank you, Dorothy. Now Elmo will ask a baby. Hello baby, how do you
make music with a drum? Here you go. Yeah, that's it, baby. Buh bye. And now, Elmo has a question for you, about something else that
makes music, a guitar. Guitar! Oh, there you are. How many strings does this guitar have, one, two strings,
(children count along) three strings, four strings, five strings, six strings.
(guitar melody) Ah, six strings on a guitar. That was great counting. And now, Elmo knows some other
things that make music, (soul groove)
and some things that don't. Oh, let's dance. A trombone makes music. (trombone plays) Nice. A box doesn't make music. (twinkling song) Unless it's a music box. Ooh, very pretty. A birthday cake doesn't make music. (guitar plays) But singing Happy Birthday is music. ♪ Happy birthday to you,
happy birthday to you ♪ Little birds make music, so do big birds. - La, la, la, la. (horn plays) - Drawer. Some of Elmo's other
friends can make music, too. They'll teach you at school, show them how to make their
own musical instruments. Dorothy, you can watch, too. Elmo's friend Maura
learned how to make music with a plain old comb and some wax paper. ("Mary Had a Little Lamb") Very good. (tinkling sounds) Next, Ruben made music by tapping on glasses filled with water. Hannah thought that was cool. So did Jesse. Yeah. (plucking sounds) Then Jesse made music by
putting some rubber bands around a box, and wiggling his
fingers across the strings. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. Last of all, Elmo's friend
Hannah made music by hitting a pot with a spoon. Ruben thought that sounded silly. Then they all played together.
(instruments play) Wow. That's a tune. - I love school. (banging sounds) - And that's how Elmo's
friends made music. Elmo wants to know more about music. How can Elmo find out more, hmmm? (tribal music) Look at that, Elmo can watch
the music channel on TV. - [Announcer] Welcome
to the Music Channel. Music, music, music. And now, for a golden oldie,
the very first music played in the entire world ever. - [Narrator] Once upon a
time, millions of years ago, there wasn't any music. As a matter of fact, there
wasn't any talking either. (grunts) The only sounds were sounds like the sound of a stream rushing by,
or the wind whistling through the trees, the sound of thunder in the sky, and of course there was grunting. (grunts)
Plenty of grunting. But there was no music. But then one day, out for a walk, a caveperson came upon a hollow stick. The caveperson blew into the hollow stick, and the caveperson
liked the sound it made. (grunts) So the caveperson took
the hollow stick back home to his cave, and practiced blowing. Then he blew it for the family, and the family liked the sounds, too. (grunting and clapping) So they called to the neighbors, and they grunted with delight. (grunts) Soon the stick player was joined by a hollow log player,
and a lead grunter. Together, they were the very first band playing the very first music. So from then on, every Tuesday night everyone would gather around and listen. The end. - [Announcer] Stay

didn't stretch my bellows. - Huh? Wow.
- Or squeeze it. - Elmo loves your bellow. Ooh, Elmo has a belly, see, see. And right here is a bellybutton. - But that's not all,
kid, I can play soft. (accordion plays) - Ooh, pretty.
- And I can play loud. (accordion plays louder) - That's loud.
- Mmhmm. I can play high notes.
(accordion plays high notes) - Wow.
- And I can play low notes. (accordion plays low notes) - That's low. - And you know what, kid?
- What? - There are lots more
instruments that people can make music with.
- Really? - Mmhmm.
(clarinet plays) - Oh, excuse Elmo. Wow, well what's that?
- That's a clarinet. - Ooh, ooh, oooh, look,
look, look, look over there. Dorothy is imagining
Elmo playing a clarinet. (clarinet music plays) (drums kick in)
- There's the drums. And my buddy the banjo.
(banjo plays along) And my friend the trumpet.
(trumpet plays along) (applause) See, there's all kinds of
great music in the world, kid. - Yeah.

(accordion plays) - Elmo get the door. Bye accordion, bye. Elmo loves making music. You know, Elmo can even make
music by just doing this. (Elmo hums) Yeah, that's called
humming, hum with Elmo. (Elmo hums Sesame Street theme) Very good. Elmo made a video of his
friend, Herry, humming, with this camera, it's called, Herry Humming by Elmo. (playful music) Nice. (Herry hums Elmo's World theme) And that's Herry humming. (Elmo hums along) - How'd I look?
