Elf The Movie! Everything You Missed!

[Music] probably one of the most famous old Christmas classics is It's a Wonderful Life where George Bailey feels like a failure and goes to a bridge and decides to give up then he has to go on a journey and find his real purpose in his life and to pay respect to that classic we see buddy go to the bridge and mirror this scene do you recognize Ming Ming well if you have Christmas running through your veins you probably do he's Peter Billingsley all grown up and when he was younger he was Ralphie in 1983 He's A Christmas Story now this isn't Santa's first time being a Santa he was played by Edward Asner rest in peace and he was also in the movie The Christmas star as you guessed it Santa only there he was a fake Santa and he was a criminal right here we see buddy find a creative way to put the star on the tree but the tree is clearly too big for the room and Clark Griswold from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is a bad judge of size as well when it comes to finding a tree that fits the room looks great little full a lot of sap probably the movie that got referenced the most in alfo is 1964's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer if you look at the outfits they were inspired by Rudolph the colors in the Toy Factory were also inspired by Rudolph even the placements on the table were inspired by Rudolph some of the story plot was inspired by Rudolph even a lot of the lines that they said were the worst toy maker in the world inspired by Rudolph not happy in my work I guess what that's a lot of inspiring going on in fact that was so much inspiration that they had to get lawyers involved to make sure it wasn't too much inspiration also if you look at the iceberg that buddy just jumped on look how big it is that's what she said then if you watch closely when he gets the candy cane forest look how much the iceberg melted The Last Dragon Box that opened here was actually on a remote control trigger so that way Will Ferrell would actually be surprised when it goes off one classic that's recycled you might not have noticed is the building where Buddy's dad lives that's the same place that Dana lived in the not so Christmas but classic Ghostbusters elf is one of Will Ferrell's breakout movies before that he was mostly just known for his appearance on Saturday Night Live back when they were actually funny so if you watch a few years after elf when he's more famous at this point we see him in Step Brothers why are you so sweaty I was watching cops and get this his mom Emily and elf is also his mom and step brothers originally Wanda Sykes was going to play this role right here but for whatever reason that deal fell through so instead they got phase on love filling the role but her name tag was already made and Faison loved it so much that they kept it and that's why his name tag says Wanda this pose right here is also a reference to the famous Bigfoot sighting the park rangers on horses chasing Santa was also a subtle play on the ring race in Lord of the Rings chasing Frodo when buddy is preparing the toy store for Santa he's making little snowflakes all the snow flying in the air in front of him though is a reference to Edward Scissorhands when when he was carving ice one way to confirm that buddy is really his son is he actually doesn't own a picture of him and his mom just the yearbook photo and the yearbook photo is actually cropped out but buddy has the original picture showing the whole thing Leon the Snowman is named Leon because if you spell it backwards it spells no well also probably the main reason is because he's actually voiced by Leon Redbone kind of a celebrity then we have the snowball fight that's a shout out to the original Magnificent Seven all the way from the music that we hear to the shooting of the last bad guy we see trying to escape [Music] that was the greatest shot I've ever seen worst was aiming at the horse if you thought the underwear gift was weird you realize it's not really that weird because when David berenbaum wrote the story about elf he was working in the underwear facts but if you watch the movie at the end it looks like his dad actually re-gifted the present to his stepmom if you try to have a mukbang with only What Will Ferrell ate now if you would probably make yourself sick but don't worry you wouldn't have to eat cotton balls those are actually cotton candy without all the coloring in them no wonder he wanted to keep eating them in case you missed it in the very beginning this is a reference to the Keebler Elf the guy that undercuts girl scout cookies legal disclaimer they own Girl Scout cookies in this scene the famous question was that real yes that's real gum that he was eating but they put down like a sanitary strip on the metal and then he chewed the gum spit it out stuck it under there then they hit action then they recorded a meeting it so he's eating his own gum people it's not that gross it just looks really gross but all the other people were basically just real people walking the streets and not actually actors they simply just ran up to him and started filming them like this guy right here he's not an actor and he's not even Santa he's just a normal guy walking the streets but this guy right here is Adam McKay who is one of the writers for the movie but he loves his serve which at first might sound weird but it makes sense if you look in the break room at the elf headquarters not only do they have tons of candy for the employees but they even have syrup instead of coffee also don't try drinking an entire two liter of soda though but he can't do it he had a cheat to do it they had a hose hidden behind his face that would pump all the soda out of the can and if you try drinking a whole two liter it's not going to turn out very good for you the burp was not really Will Ferrell's burp though oh John Favreau is the director of Elf and he also pulled an Alfred Hitchcock if you are a Marvel fan you probably recognize him as the doctor that did the DNA test John's kid Max is also the young buddy that we see sitting on Papa's lap John also let Will Ferrell get his family involved as well the security guard right here kicking buddy out of this dad's office is actually Will Ferrell's brother in real life Patrick Farrell and the elevator was actually made for the movie and it isn't actually an elevator in the Empire State Building he also lets a lot of the staff have their own Cameo for working on the movie if you look at Santa's good and naughty list you will see a lot of those names actually came from the credits like this one and this one and that one and this one oh yeah and that one all from the credits and a famous guy known simply as radio man can be seen right here it's speculated that he's actually been in over a hundred movies then the original writer of the movie is David Birnbaum and he's this guy right here reading the newspaper but John wasn't just the doctor he was also the voice of of narwhal the stop-motion character we see come out of the ocean bye buddy hope you find your dad and he voiced all the other little stop-motion animals right here and he even voiced The Craze a crazy raccoon the fun thing about the North Pole is none of it was actually CGI they use what's called Force perspective this is also what they did in Lord of the Rings and to pull out these looks they would have buddy be located far away from everyone else then from the camera's perspective it makes buddy look huge like this scene right here takes three people the first one is Buddy obviously but then the legs those are actually kid legs but then Papa sits far back away from Buddy to make it look like he's tiny compared to buddy or in this case they have little kids hands on top of Buddy's shoulders and then Buddy's dad is really far away to make it look like buddy is Big the only weird scene that I felt was too obvious to not say anything is when buddy is playing with the doors you can see the X's right there on their Mark waiting for their cue to walk across the screen and they think they're out of view of the camera but they're not You Make Me Feel
