Edit Like: Ali Abdaal #1 I DaVinci Resolve 18

I'm a 17 year old professional video editor and I've analyzed Ali abdel's videos to learn the techniques he uses to Skyrocket his retention if you've watched at least a single video on Ali's Channel you definitely noticed this animation and his intros first you're gonna need some icons if you don't already have icons downloaded you can go to flat icon.com and then pick out any icon from their library that you think you're gonna use and to animate the icons I use a free preset from Mr Alex Tech magic animate so make sure you get this magic animate plugin and definitely go check out Mr Alex Tech's Channel now that you have your icons and your preset downloaded you're gonna throw them into the timeline and then put them in separate channels go to the toolbox and search for Magic animates throw that on one of your icons go to the effects tab go to In and Out speed and set that around 0.2 then go to zoom control and check in and out then what you want to do is right click on your icon click copy select the other two icons right click click paste attributes and select Fusion effects go to the effects Tab and adjust the zoom value on every single one of your icons and position them wherever you want on your screen foreign also do to make it look a little bit better is to adjust the timing of your icons so that they don't come in at the same time and the final step is to add some pop-up sound effects and this is how your animation should look like and you can make as many of these icons as you want and put them wherever you want on your video you've probably noticed that Ali likes to use this transition between points in his video let's go for item number one is this keychain type thing so create a fusion composition and open it in Fusion then you're gonna need a background that's similar to this one you can find tons of similar ones on the internet for free so once you have your overlay in here you're gonna go to the effects tab go to templates and look for magic animates slide that in and connect the media endnote to the magic animate node then anti-magic animate settings you're gonna go to whip control select in and out and on the whip in and out angle you're gonna select 90. and if you click two on the magic animate node you should see the animation foreign very simple let's just organize this and make it look better connect it to a merge node connect it to another merge node and to this merge node we're going to connect a text plus node then pick your desired font [Music] write down whatever you want to be in your video pick your text color view the emerge node now copy these two over and connect them to the previous merge and then change the text to the enumeration so here we go with number one and just put it over here let me view it just put it over here move this over here now what we're gonna do is copy this magic animate node paste it twice disconnect them and then connect each one to the text nodes then go to the magic animate notes under the text notes and adjust the in and out speed so here we're gonna go for 1.4 and on the other one I'm gonna go with 1.3 and now we're just gonna lower these two [Music] and then adjust the size and position of the text to your preference now the last part of this transition is to add in an icon so let's just drag in an icon add another merge node [Music] copy another magic animate plugin connect that to the merge node and connect the icon to the magic animate plugin node view deferred merge increase the size and then go back to Magic animate and here you're gonna decrease the zoom do whatever you like position the icon wherever you want to and then change the timing to let's say 1.7 don't forget to add a media out node do the last merge node of your Fusion composition then you can go back to the edit page and add some sound effects and you're done with the transition now let's take a look at how Ali shows b-roll as you can see he places his camera and a box over the bureau so that he's always visible the way that you do this in resolve is to get a box-shaped image just like this one without a background so here at the top I have my b-roll and at the bottom I have a talking head video of Ali what we want to do now is to go to the top video go to composite mode and set this to foreground then go to the overlay and set the composite mode to inverted Alpha and then you can move around the Box however you really want to you can rotate it say 90 degrees and let's just move it over to the right corner together with this one [Music] but there's one more thing that Ali does to make this look really good if you look closely you'll notice that there's an animated frame around the window in which Ali positions himself so to make this Frame we're gonna compound clip this create a new compound clip go into the fusion page and save this image as reference then go back in the edit Tab and create a fusion composition add it to the timeline and open it in Fusion now drag in the reference image that you just took and drag in a background node add a rectangle mask to it and then grab a merge node connect the background mode to the green output of the merge node connect your reference photo to the merge node and then connect the merge to the midi out node and now we're gonna go to the rectangle mask change the angle to 90. change the Border style to round and uncheck solid then just increase the Border width slightly and try to fit this Frame onto your image so drag it on here decrease the height and the width and change up the corner radius and it should perfectly fit just like that now what you want to do select the background node add in a soft glow node change the color of the background node to something like this adjust the threshold gain and the glow size I think this looks good and then you're gonna copy this entire sequence over connect it to the rest of the notes change the color of the new background note to White [Music] and now go to the rectangle mask go to the first frame of your video create a keyframe on length and drag it down to zero then go to the last frame and drag it down all the way up to one and then you're just gonna lower down the level go to like somewhere around 0.6 and this is what you should get [Music] and now the last step is to remove the reference Image Grab in a new background node connect it to the first merge go to color and decrease the alpha to zero then just go back into the edit Tab and you should have the frame just like this which means I'm never without a phone charger
