I get the video is supposed to be corny and memey, but it’s hard to really delight in it knowing they’re two of the biggest stars in the world backed by tons of label money who made this with the specific intention to go viral. Also I just really dislike Justin Bieber.

So they tried to go for the super ironic “so bad it’s good” route, but with all the changing sets and costumes and etc, it just looks bad. It feels weirdly calculated and I don’t like it.

A video this reminds me of is New Light by John Mayer. New Light is the same premise pretty much. A green screen and a guy known for guitar ballads beinf awkward. But it works so much better cause this actually does look low budget and doesn’t have the smug-ness of being from 2 of the biggest stars in the world. And, it fits with the song. It’s supposed to be from a guy pleading for a chance and is making a dumb, cheap video to help win her back. This is green screened because........ they didn’t want to spend that much? It just feels so cheap and trying to be “LOL XD RaNdOm!”

This video is reminiscent of a college kid messing with green screen for the first time and being super high while editing their video.

I kinda like how idiotic is. Also, Ed just seems like such a good dude. He's one of the few people who can still pull off the I'm-just-a-normal-person vibe.
