here in the sanctuary while for children is down in their room but there's another part that i want to mention to you for some who did not know now at 1915 there is a wonderful program song service which brings brings those people who are there closer to god more than before and before you start the program of worship you you're already in a mood of worship because of those songs plan not to miss the school classes they start at 10 and end at 11. and so the superintendent may announce where the classes will meet but that's the that's the program also uh we have uh believers new believers you're parking here on the servers don't leave the car without the parking how do you call it there is a path you are given by our church to put on your car so that anyone who is passing by to give out tickets for those ones who are packing and lawfully on our lot please don't be one of those because you then put the packing pass on your car remember every time you come here and you park here you don't leave the car without a parking pass or give out some money because of that and there'd be a garage sale for colorado if you're going to sell for coldwood you may probably have some questions i think the ovo will be there to help you but this [Music] this garage sale will take place at 19 92 10 and 118 avenue and repeat that is 1992 10 that's the address 9210 and 118 avenue and september 5th it will be a sunday the first week the first sunday of september please don't miss so i want to call for worship shall we pray our god and our father the father of love the father of mercy the god of all creation we thank you for bringing your children here to meet with you i know you're always with them i know you are always with everyone as if each of us is your only child that's how you love us so dear lord even today as you have come to be fed by your children who are prepared to deliver your food your spiritual food i pray that you forgive us all our sins for your word is holy and keep us with our sin dear lord so that we can receive that food abundantly and they pray that you also destroy us your spirit so that he may help us to put into practice what we learn from here bless us with your presence in ours thank you say pray name jesus amen i want to call for for offering but you see we are in two groups this group on my right and this group on my left so as the deacon is passing by correcting offerings they focus only on this group i'm sure the deacons are listening to me now you correct offering on this side only this one we wait and then when they're going out they drop the offering on a plate over there and we want to remind you that a place that is indicated reserved to just not not use it not sit on it and so before the offering is corrected shall we pray thank you lord thank you for giving us and you want to submit to the offerings so that your word your work may be advanced bless the ones who are offering bless those ones who did not find so the next time they also offer offering to you they are make abundantly thank you lord say pray name of jesus amen while the offer is being corrected we're going to watch a video william tyndale lost everything when he put god first even then he didn't give up what can we learn from william tyndale today to help us put god first in our own lives in the 16th century the roman catholic church had prohibited the bible from being read and understood by regular people persecution was certain for anyone who challenged the authority of the church and especially the pope the papacy had become the apocalyptic beast described in the bible during this dark period of human history william tyndale was a light that helped change the course of human history by making the bible accessible in english tyndale's translation was the first english bible to draw directly from hebrew and greek texts it was also the first english translation to take advantage of the printing press the latest technology used at the time for spreading a message this brought him into direct conflict with the church which believed that the general population didn't have the skills to understand the bible and therefore needed the church to do it for them fleeing england tyndale sought refuge in the flemish territory of the catholic emperor charles v in 1535 tyndale was arrested and jailed in the castle of the vorde or phil ford outside brussels for more than a year in 1536 he was convicted of hearsay and executed his dying prayer was that the king of england's eyes would be opened not long after he gave his life for putting god first the king james bible would be compiled and sanctioned by the king of england the bible is the foundation of western society and tyndale truly helped change the world by bringing the inspired text to the average person who could now understand it we are called to go and to help people from all nations tribes peoples and tongues understand the bible so they can find freedom healing and hope in jesus when we are faithful with our tithe and promise with regular and systematic offerings we are helping to take the three angels message to the entire world as god commanded putting god first by sponsoring missions and missionaries is crucial however we should also invest our time and energy with the people around us inspiring them to know more about the love of god william tyndale put god first even when it cost him everything his courage inspires us today jesus gave up everything to redeem us and his love compels us to put his kingdom first in our own lives as we return our tithes and promise we are challenged to put god first good morning everybody and welcome to uh our church service and to our praise time uh hopefully you can join in and sing we'll probably get more singing from this side than this side but even with those messages means you sing twice as loud as they do so we can hear from both sides the personal ministries is doing a outreach program on a weekly basis in the afternoon and today they're going out at two o'clock and uh passing out uh literature so i'm just giving a little promotion for that that's in conjunction with our first song which says send the light and that's one way in which we can send the light is by giving literature out to our neighbors and witnessing that way so we will sing our first song which is send the light [Music] there's a call comes [Music] [Music] the blessed gospel [Music] send the [Music] gospel [Music] let it shine forevermore [Music] [Music] [Music] send the lights the blessed gospel and let it shine forever [Music] our sabbath school lessons have been talking about rest and so our second song we're going to sing even of rest that's the best place we can find rest is in the haven arrest [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the tempest may sweep for the worlds to be deep in jesus i'm saying evermore [Music] the song of my soul since the lord made me whole has been the old story so blessed of jesus who said whosoever [Music] rest i'll sail the word seas no more the tempest may sweep or the world will still be deep in safe ever born o come to the savior he patiently waits to sit by his power device come anchor your soul in the haven of rest and save my beloved [Music] [Music] may [Music] john 3 16 says forgot to love the word that he gave his only begotten son for sue for so for for whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life i am one of those you are one of those we need to believe in jesus but even though we weren't deserving his love but he loves us anyhow i am so glad that our father loves me and he loves you [Music] i am so glad that our father in heaven tells of his love in the book he has given wonderful things in the bible i see this is a dearest that jesus loves me i'm so glad that jesus loves me jesus loves me jesus loves me i am so glad that jesus loves me jesus loves even the when i remember that come to you to tell jesus all our abundance and our joy again i want to pray that you forgive us all our sins so that as we are in front of our holy god and father nothing can stop our prayers from reaching you we pray god that you reach out to everyone and give us your spirit give us your spirit your god so that as you are listening to the word that you have put into ethine's mouth be announcement that will take us to the end of this world that will take us to the meeting of jesus when he comes again to take us home i pray dear lord that you earn your servant gene with your spirit that does this she speaks with the spirit speaking through him we can hear your voice we can receive your word and we can see you in her lord god may everyone who is here and those ones who are listening to us online be fed to a point of being they're ready for the second coming follow jesus thank you lord thank you for this i pray name of jesus amen and so i want to remind the children uh who did not go down to the children's class down in a fellowship hall that this is the time for there's no children story today there's no children's story you have your church down in the fellowship hall so enjoy thank you [Music] what's today's scripture reading okay hello okay today's scripture reading will be taken from john 10 verse 10. the thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly may god bless this reading i'm nervous it's not the first time up front but it's the first time i'll be up for at least a half an hour so bear with me okay when pastor david said he wanted me up front i thought oh dear he says every elder has to have their turn so here i am okay good morning and happy sabbath everyone i'm glad to see so many of you here and um also welcome to whoever is joining us on youtube online i'm here this morning to present to you a topic that we as adventists hear about more often than not and i know sabbath schools covered some of this the song service actually covered some of this and that's god's work because i never talked to the men so some of those songs fit in very nicely with this anyway so that topic is our health john writes in third john verse 2 beloved i wish above all things that you mayest prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospers and christ said to the pharisee who asked him i think he was trying to catch him up on something but he said teacher which of the commands is the greatest and god and christ answered in mark 12 30 love the lord your god with all your heart with all your soul with all your mind and with all your strength so this encompasses our whole being in order to serve god and his purpose for our lives we need to be at our best physically mentally and spiritually now our general overall health affects our mental and spiritual health well-being there are two areas in our health that the um experts will tell you about and one is the uncontrollable aspects uncontrollable factors in our life and those are gender age and family hereditary factors the other area is controllable factors and that's factors like our diet our physical activity and our personal involvement in our health status so don't throw stick your head in the sand when you have an acorn or pain you've got to get involved our text today read by yourity john 10 verse 10 as jesus saying that i am come that you might have life and that they might have life more abundantly so he doesn't want us just to have you know go through day to day he wants us to have a more abundant life christ wants us to have good health when he was on earth a large portion of his ministry was healing the sick healing those that were born infirmed and dealing with mental anguish some of us are blessed with families who have strong genes but that might not necessarily be a plus if that person neglects his or own health and lives a poor lifestyle on the contrary those of us who have families with poor genes can make changes in our lives to change or improve those results for that reason i have chosen to go through weimar's institute eight laws of health and there they are they coin the the name or the word new start so it's an acronym it stands for eight areas inner health that are important some letters all dwell on a little less than others they're very obvious but we'll go through them in order so n stands for nutrition in genesis 1 verse 29 god's original diet for adam in the garden of eden was herb bearing seeds and fruit and seeds from the trees after the fall an expulsion from the garden of eden in genesis 3 verse 18 god added herbs of the field or otherwise said plans of the field and i was kind of too bad all the kids went downstairs because i was gonna say and yes that includes broccoli and cauliflower and cabbage and brussels sprouts i'm not a fan of brussels sprouts i was made to eat it when i was a child even if it was only two or three but yeah that is all good for our health after the flood god added animals to man's diet but with restrictions let's just turn to genesis 9 verse 3 and 4. god told noah every moving thing that lives shall be food for you and as i gave you the green plants i give you everything only you shall not eat flesh with its life that is its blood so there were restrictions to noah's diet at the time as time went on god gave the israelites health rules which included the clean and the unclean animals on land in sea and in the air and most of us are familiar with this list the most familiar being of course the unclean animals which they were to avoid such as pig rabbit camel crab lobster vultures and a list of insects most creatures on that list are scavengers and most on that list i certainly don't have an issue leaving alone although i have to admit i i did try rabbit and i should say try when i lived back in holland rabbit is something that they ate there i guess instead of a turkey we had rabbit for christmas and um yeah that is on god's list of unclean animals if you want a more comprehensive list check out leviticus 11 chapter 11. maybe this afternoon when it's too hot to do anything else you can pull out your bible and check that list so as you can see god did not require the israelites to be vegetarians but we encourage it because we will not be eating animals meat meat products in heaven nor on the new earth i mean if there's no death and dying we won't be killing any animals to eat either will we alan white in her book counsels on diet and food page 384 states that disease in animals is rapidly increasing now she wrote this in 1905 that's over a hundred years ago so how much more is that now and don't even get me started on the hormones and the antibacterias and everything else that they either feed their animals or give their animals that we are then in turn eating if we turn to daniel 1 chapter 1 we are told that daniel and his three friends hananiah michel and azaria requested a very simple diet of vegetables and water instead of the food from the king's table and then in chapter daniel chapter 1 verse 14 the four men looked healthier than all others in only 14 days in verse 18 we read that the king found that none of the other young men were as good as daniel and his three friends after three years of being in his i guess it's not employee they were being taught and they weren't being brought up so yeah the simple diet influenced their learning abilities and therefore the wisdom and understanding up to 10 times more than all the others so the king was impressed with their simple diet now our western world has become much more health-conscious and therefore it has become easier for us to provide healthy meals without meats however we need to be cautious in our intake of fats and sugars and sweets which are all present in the processed and in the manufactured and refined foods so um eat low fats full fiber and i'm sure you've heard the saying eat like a king for breakfast eat like a prince for lunch and eat like a popper for supper so don't start the night with a big full stomach because you are going to have a good sleep so eat less fats sugars and sweets more whole grain vegetables and fruits our next letter in that circle is e for exercise the bible doesn't say much about exercise as we know it today there were no gyms in bible times but then again there weren't any cars and trains and buses and motorbikes so people had horse and and chariots but most common people had a donkey and that was mostly used for putting their burdens on and they would walk beside the donkey so they walked everywhere pretty much and the majority of the people did manual work so there was no need for a gym at that time in our day and age with so many of us in a sedentary lifestyle we have to make a planned effort to keep physically active a sedentary lifestyle along with rich foods contributes to stored calories which turn into fat more fat more weight more weight more stress on our bones and our our joints more stress on our bones and bones and joints and more pain and the more pain we have the less active we are my mother had a saying and it was i don't think she even realized what she said but my sister and i really remembered that because as she got older she complained about you know her aches and pains and her arthritis and one day we were with her together visiting her and she said every time i lift my arm up like that my shoulder really hurts and my sister and i both at the same time said well then don't do that and she looked at us especially at me and thought well how unfeeling is that right and and i said well you always told us when we were kids if we told you you know we had a pain in our knee if we bent this or we bent that you would tell us don't do that she said i did i said yes you did and that's the mentality of a lot of people if things start to hurt we avoid doing that thing that hurts right so if we do less activity then of course we start piling on the calories again because we're not using them and then you get the whole circle all over again so yeah that sedentary lifestyle it also contributes to heart disease stroke high blood pressure diabetes osteoporosis osteoarthritis and a few more like that so exercise stimulates circulation exercise helps bone preserve their minerals and keeps them strong exercise uses up calories and reduces weight hebrew 12 1 talks about running the race and never giving up and i know this refers to our our spiritual journey our faith journey however staying physically active reduces stress it combats depression it restores energy and strengthens our bones all of which will influence us as we run the race for christ then we come to w for water our bodies are 75 percent water our bodies need water for a multitude of functions from moistening our eyes nose and mouth our membranes to regulating our body temperature protecting our organs and tissue making hormones supporting cell growth and reproduction and to preventing constipation and flushing out waste products and i can go into more details but you get the idea we need water especially on days like today we need eight to ten glasses of water a day and children four to eight depending on their ages and without water we become hydrated dehydration is linked to decline in cognitive performance tension anxiety fatigue negative mood rating and impaired short memory short-term memory sorry headaches dizziness rapid heart rate along with a decrease in all the other functions i already mentioned so no wonder the israelites while they were in the desert when they were without water really quarreled and grumbled at moses they definitely needed that water jesus talked about of living water in john 4 verse 10. and the samaritan woman at the well was more than willing to receive it thinking she would not have to come to the wall daily anymore you know there was a reason why she came in the afternoon all by herself right so she really thought she would like that living water of course the living water that jesus speaks of will feed us spiritually the water we need here that we have here feeds our bodies water is the one number one recommended fluid beverage of all doctors so let's take advantage of it we just need to turn on our taps we don't have to go to a wow the next letter is s and that's for sunshine or sunlight i reread the creation account in jesus chapter in sorry in genesis chapter one and noticed and realized that the plants and trees were created the day before the sun was created day three god created the plants and the trees but these plants and trees obviously need the sun and hence the creation of the sun the following day alan wright ellen white wrote in this regard sunshine in her book ministry of healing and she said it so well i'm just going to read what she said instead of trying to put my own spin on that she's talking about so minister of healing page 275. she's talking about the buildings that we would put up like our homes and stuff and she said in building many make careful provision for their plants and flowers the greenhouse or window devoted to their use is warm and sunny for without warmth air and sunshine plants would not live and flourish if these conditions are necessary to the life of plants how much more necessary are they for our own health and that of our families so if you're about to start building a home make sure you get lots of light sunshine helps boost a chemical in your brain called serotonin and that will give you more energy and help keep you calm positive and focused it improves your sleep it reduces your stress stress strengthens your immune system which a lot of us need right now in fact all of us need right now at this time in our lives maintain strong bones by producing vitamin d when we are exposed to sunlight five to ten minutes a day is all it takes for someone light-skinned like me in fact if i sit much longer i get a sunburn so five to ten minutes is all all it takes for me to produce enough vitamin d but dark-skinned people like most of you here will need up to six times that time in order to get the same amount produced in your bodies and manufactured and then of course there's winter time it also reduces the time at the time one spends in the sun and and the sun isn't as strong during the winter so a vitamin d supplement is recommended especially for those of us living here in this northern area but check with your doctor as far as the dosage goes okay then we come to t temperance typically we when we think of temperance we think of total abstinence from alcoholic beverages the bible in proverbs 20 verse 1 if you will turn there with me where are you i got it all right twenty verse one it reads wine is a mocker strong drink a brawler and whoever is led astray by it is not wise so it certainly warns us against its use and then if we flip over page to proverbs 23 verse 29 there's a little list there that says there's questions in 20 in verse 29 it says who has woe who has sorrel who has strive who has complaining who has wounds without cause and who has redness of eyes and then verse 30 answers that and it says those who tarry along over wine those who go to try mixed wine so again another passage that warns us about the use of wine and alcohol so we as but we as adventists include in that any mind-altering substance so that includes narcotics tobacco caffeine and referring back to mark 12 30 the verse said love the lord your god with all your heart all your mind soul all your all your soul and mind if we cloud our minds with drugs and narcotics and alcohol how can we yeah how can we be our best for christ and his service and his purpose for us however temperance also includes much more than what we put into our bodies if you look up the word temperance in the dictionary or online um it also clarifies pampers as being moderate in self-restraint in conduct expression and appetite so it involves our conduct our activities our behavior our appetite our drinking and eating habits it involves us living a balanced life so you workaholics out there take time for hobbies and recreation and family and friends take time to nurture relationships and spiritual growth be temperate in all aspects of our lives in our eating don't ever indulge in our activities or non-activity our recreation our socialization our work and let's turn to luke 10. luke 10 is a scenario that we between martha and mary that we're actually very much aware of familiar with now martha or jesus had come to mary and martha's house for dinner and martha as you know was busy in the kitchen and she had a sister called mary verse 239 who sat at the lord's feet and listen to his teaching but martha was distracted with much serving and she went to him and said lord do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone tell her then to help me verse 41 but the lord answered her martha martha you are anxious and troubled about many things one thing is needed mary has chosen the good portion which shall not be taken away from her so if any one thing takes up so much time that we don't have time or energy for that which is important in our overall well-being we need to reevaluate our lifestyle paul in corinthians first corinthians actually chapter nine six no first corinthians chapter nine oh dear my dyslexia is showing so first corinthians 9 verse 25 every athlete exercises self-control in all things they do it to receive a perishable wreath but we an imperishable so we don't need man's approval we just had the olympics they all got not all a lot of people did their best they all did their best sorry they did all did their best let me be clear but not all of them got a medal those that got a medal they're being dead they're being healed heroes right in their own countries and that's all good and well they all worked hard for that but we are our hero and there's earth and we want god's reward so we want to work for god then a is for air which is pretty much self-explanatory all living things need oxygen to live on earth and god created it on the second day of creation week before he created created the plants and the trees he created the plants in such a way so that they would absorb carbon dioxide and increase oxygen in the air therefore it's a good plan to air out your living space daily sleep with good ventilation fill your house with green plants that absorb carbon carbon dioxide and increase oxygen walk outside in the fresh air as much as possible as as if it's possible then we come to the r for rest and i know we've had a few things talked about with rest already but i would like to divide this topic into two headings physical rest and spiritual rest physical rest restores the body spiritual rest restores the soul it's recommended that we have seven to eight hours of sleep at night the body needs this time to repair and restore the damage that it goes through for daily wear and tear we often think rest means total lack of activity and while that is definitely at times beneficial and necessary for our weary bodies a change of pace in wreck or recreation every so often does wonders for the physical body but more so for the body mentally recreation that word has the word recreate in it and um therefore a change of pace such as a picnic a vacation pursuing a hobby can refresh you in order to prepare you for the new week alan white strongly suggests to get out in nature what better way to spend time with god than to walk on among his creation which brings me to the second heading of rest and that is spiritual rest and with that i mean our sabbath rest that one day a week that god has set aside for us to rest in him and to meet and fellowship with fellow believers and i'm so glad we can do this again it was awkward standing up front and not seeing anybody sitting there though we were talking to a camera but nobody here right but we can do that again in hebrews 10 verse 25 or actually let's do 24 and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works verse 25 not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day drawing near so it's not just a social get together we're also getting together to encourage each other each other to lift each other up and and help us with whatever is bothering us too right the text matthew 11 verse 28 well known to all of us and let's just turn that to that quickly matthew 11 verse 28 come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for i am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest in your soul so jesus encourages us to take that rest and this brings me to the last letter in new start and that is trust there are many institutions and individuals that people put their trust in but eventually one after another will disappoint us however there is one who will never disappoint us and that is god trusting god doesn't happen automatically it means getting to know him and as we get to know him better the more we will trust so how do you get to know somebody well enough in order to trust now if that person is living fairly close to you you can plan get-togethers and you know you get to know each other that way and if they live a little further away then we can write although that probably doesn't happen so much anymore it's a little outdated um but we can talk on the phone we can facetime and that way we get to know people right the equivalent with god is to read his word which is his letter to us and prayer talking to god as we read his word we come across such texts as jeremiah 31 verse 3 and i don't know if you guys are familiar with that one but let me just read that to you jeremiah 31 verse 3. the lord appeared to him from afar and said i have loved you with an everlasting love therefore i have continued my faithfulness to you which tells us of his love for us first peter 5. go there fifth peter five chap chapter five verse 7 here we go cast all your anxieties on him for he cares about you so that tells us of his concern for us he tells us to cast all our cares on him the bible is full of examples of people who learn to trust god david in 2nd samuel verse 22 yeah yeah yeah where are you he tells us this god his way is perfect the promise of the lord proves true he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him and then if we slip to oops that was 31 sorry let's back up to verse 2. the lord is my rock and my fortress and deliverer my god my rock in whom i take refuge my shield and the horn of my salvation my stronghold and my refuge my savior thou saves me from violence i call upon the lord who is worthy to be praised and i am saved from my enemies so david has learned that from time to time and time again that he could trust god to deliver him from his enemies and saul another person in the bible would be solomon now he wrote proverbs we're all familiar with proverbs 3 verse 5 he admonishes us to trust in the lord with all your heart and don't depend on your own understanding in isaiah for 12 chapter 12 verse 2 we read behold god is my salvation i will trust and i will not be afraid for the lord your god my god is my strength and my song and he has become my salvation and then if we flip to chapter 26 verse 4 trust in the lord forever for the lord god is an everlasting rock so these are all people that have learned to trust god and of course we can add the christ disciples to that list even though it took them three over three years of constantly being with christ to finally get the message that he can trust they can trust god for what he says he does and i can go on a while with texts because i open up the concordance and looked up the word trust and there's a long list of texts with the word trust in it but i'll just give you one more and that's proverbs 29. verse 25 the fear of man lays a snare but he who trusts in the lord is safe so what better advice to us than that verse to trust in the lord so reading god's word gives us knowledge of his care and his love for us now prayer enables us to talk to god prayer is god's of course it's god's equivalent of making a phone call however god's line is never busy never will we get a message saying he's out of the office or doing something else he's always ready and willing to listen when christ was on earth he regularly took time away from the crowds and his disciples to pray to god his father so let's look up mark 1 verse 35 and in the morning a great while before day he rose and went out to a lonely place and there he prayed and we're talking about jesus here he had just spent a whole day healing the people and and and talking to the people and preaching to the people and if god if christ needed that time with his father how much more do don't we need that time with god through reading his word and praying we develop trust and through trust we will increase our faith and love and hope we will develop a spirit of gratitude and praise gratitude that god didn't waste his time making nobody's in psalm 139 verse 14 and i'll read this from the old king james
