ECF 164 Grand Final - Aklo (Link, Fox) vs lloD (Peach)

but again that last game of that fight pit that he won was one of the greatest last stands i may have ever seen um and i don't think there's a lot of players that have that in them that can really dig that deep um on almost like on a moment yeah and here we go game one on battlefield uh classic stage for uh this matchup as well as almost every other to start on on ox like top platform each likes the fact that uh fox has less recovery options um and also it's not too large or too small for either of them well yeah i think yeah i feel like if nice episodes that will kill i feel like if melee ever went through like a smash 64 period where we're like okay guys we're really only going to play on one stage from now on i think it would it should be battlefield yeah this is our dreamland 64. you know right most people would agree it's the most uh balanced stage even though there are some things people don't like about it like you can get battlefield here some people dislike the fact the top platform is the highest of any uh of the legal stages and uh that can be hard for like peach to deal with sometimes it's so sick though if you're a fast follower is actually doing very very well by the way a lot of really good edge guards really really nice and clean extensions on some of these punishes we just saw turn around out there that was a really intricate shine there to like shine and turn around grab the ledge that quickly i don't think that's something that can be done consistently it's like pixel perfect but man aqua is coming out swinging right now that could have been a kill yeah lord rolling around akklo calling it out and then giving him a taunt for it yeah that is the taunt um i don't expect law to be very phased by that his mentality is one of the best we've seen we were just discussing that um he's not gonna be faced by that yeah he's a long-time competitor as well and i feel like anyone who's uh been like top 30 or so like you gotta at least have somewhat of a good mentality to make it that far oh really nice uh flow cancelled land to get to the platform there edge cancel denying in the edge guard opportunity verse snare nice tries to cover the ledge if he was a little earlier and man there are very few monsters this consistent at these reverse wave shines than aqua he makes it look so easy it reminds me of kjh back in the day man destructive first game there and a second taunt uh yeah definitely hyping himself up after that uh stock there it was just pretty brutal honestly it almost felt like the like progression of if like we saw leffen play armada and like neither of them stopped playing at any point um but like they both kept believing that the matchup was incredibly one-sided like that just looked like okay like fox wins this matchup he's supposed to win the match up he's going to win the match up um law just seemed like he couldn't really find a lot of openings and uh the thing is like aqua will make it look that way but then we're gonna go to a game do i guarantee i i'm gonna say lord's gonna win this game and make it look like no like you can totally win that player that yet yeah radar was saying something similar where he feels like this matchup is very can be like super one-sided just like depending on a couple things like say uh if a fox hits a really nice uh wave shine combo or like a peach gets a big down smash into an edge guard stuff like that it's just so bursty like they both get so much off of their openings and fox does have the advantage in the neutral game but the execution is heavier on him as well so the human element comes into play and you know if if lord happens to find a down smash or it just finds a graph for that matter yeah he's going to be able to get his punishes a lot more easily i'm surprised he survived that offer honestly that was super close to killing going for the t drop those are pretty hard in my opinion honestly it's like a very nuanced like niche tech that you don't see a ton of people practicing yeah i mean it's more for style i think generally that is so sick i've never purposely done an uphill after a power shield like you just have to be supremely confident in your own ability to execute to even go for things like that yeah oh dot eyes never mind it's gone [Music] oh axel calling out the movement again with another op smash and giving him a taunt fox fox privilege is uh when you kill off the top you have all the time you want to watch and get away iclose is running circles around lod right now and remember lot took the first stock of this game pretty convincingly it's been all aklo ever since yeah pretty much here comes lawd yeah good sdi but the percent building 56 is uh kind of a lot for peach i think fox can uh can kill with like a little bit more damage yeah he needs like another back gear and then a lot of things open up and here we go right 83 is definitely very scary my goodness that's it yeah no jump no float no resources left and yeah if law doesn't want to go to a set two um this is an incredibly important moment for him i mean it's always the classic the person coming from losers has the momentum uh and it might take the person from winners like a couple games in order to um like be ready for it so laud missed a uh float up there a moment ago could have went for the regrab wanted a different kind of extension we're going game three with aklo up 2-0 in the first century yeah i imagine uh oh probably well i'm wondering if we'll go fd i do i do know that the last time they played um maybe not the last time but one of the last times i saw them play akklo end up going link on fd and winning so who knows yeah i didn't see that i heard about that and i honestly think akulo's w's the things he's accomplished with his link are arguably some of the most impressive things that we've seen in the entire quarantine era like up there with like like zayn beating good players with roy i mean like yeah i it's it's either that or it's a renaissance of link and akklo may be one of the greatest links of all time this character has a lot of unlock potential he's a lot better than people realize it's just that no top players are playing him um it it brings us back to frost versus the moon at like i think it was 2016. yeah something like that really the only big high profile link w in the model um six the uh german link player also had an excellent run at uh at one uh european tournament a few years ago where he beat um he beat ze ghetto and amsa and like a bunch of other people so that that was also like up there as well for sure but yeah it seems like he may be because we can count the total number of like like notor notorious upset victories by a linkman on one hand with plenty of room left over in the past like five years to me it feels like link may very well be the most underrated character left in the game in terms of how good he is versus our perception of him hacklo with a brief lead here in game three yeah shout out to save state as well for uh helping push the link meta a lot with all sorts of crazy techniques like with bomb like slide-offs and stuff like that save state is one of the most entertaining content creators in the entire melee scene right now yeah i love his innovations with with their animations they're sorry thank you yeah their innovations are just so entertaining to watch and i i can't wait to see what what we see next yeah for sure but anyway enough about length for now we got uh we got game three here back to uh fountain akklo taking the lead again but not by too much again laud he's doing well early on these games but then aklo just seems to find these openings find the momentum nice ohms attack to stay alive and doesn't look like he's gonna get too much extra value and lodge finally hanging in there uh unlike last game he's not fighting back from a deficit by this point by halftime now yeah only down a tiny bit in percent again really define these wave shrines and execute every single time and get a lot of good value um just as i say he gets one two shines and the combos and but for the most part he's getting so much off of these openings that he's finding at an insanely high rate [Music] for that this is looking like a reset i gotta be honest all right who knows is that yeah never mind even game pretty much oh but he's got no jump tilt oh missing out there second time yeah maybe third time's the charm we'll see oh my god oh god does it come out in time no yeah that absolutely could have been the game right there at nine percent oh my god laud knew that the spot dodge was coming had good enough movement but missed another forward error and aqua completes the 3-0 in the first set of grands to take us to one final set for all the marbles yeah a 3-0 pretty dominant uh for the most part a lot like the games weren't the games weren't like total blowouts but it's still i don't know there's only one moment where i felt like uh oh man like lot is gonna take this game when that ford air is there but uh i i have full faith in him uh coming back stronger in set two so we'll have to see so true i know there's a lot of fans of lawd in the chat um do not stress laud's greatest strength is his ability to adapt and i think we're going to see that um i i'm not nearly good at i love this part where like commentators conjecture about what we might see i don't know i'm not nearly the player that lawd nor out aklo are i have no idea what's going through lod's gigantic brain right now he's like literally about to be a doctor and he's amazing at playing ukulele and singing he's like a renaissance man of the melee modern era okay so god only knows what this guy's about to do but he's gonna do something different i guarantee it's gonna give him a much better chance of taking games and possibly even the entire tournament in this set that is right yeah a lot not one to roll over and die um i'm wondering if we're gonna see the same starter stage uh battlefield maybe he'll end up going to um yoshi's instead who knows on the on the topic of stages seal i'm glad you brought that up somebody else in the chat was wondering you know why is lod not taking acloa to fd is it because of the link i actually think it's because most people most high level players recognize that fd isn't the stage it once was in the matchup yes peach has the chain grab but you have to find a grab and you're going to get lasered um you're going to get wave shined you're going to get sharked like peach likes platforms at some extent you're going to find those down smashes on occasion that's like 40 to 60 percent that's also a place for you to land when you're getting up thrown and you sdi like fox is still getting back down to center stage before you so having those platforms allows you to air dodge it gives you some sort of resource to re-establish some sort of presence regain your footing um i really don't think fp in the in like this new era in the post modern era if you will is the stage that once was um i don't call it mod for not trying it and also because of link yeah definitely uh i would say most players in the melee scene do not want to have a tournament set with that close link seems like it can be very frustrating to deal with more so even than his fox it's lose lose like you oh you beat aclos link who cares but you you lost to a close link and then commentators are talking about it for the rest of time right and and also like i truly think his link is like more uh like defensive even than his uh this i want to point out something um a moment ago we just saw laud not just miss an edge guard but get reverse edge guarded he evens it up here but um that's a stitch he had an opportunity to uh get an edge guard that could have won the the entire game uh in that last game of set one and it's just unlikely for him to be missing so many of these edge guards i'm sure he'll be cleaning that up soon aqua moving so quickly right now seal yeah oh big edge guard no he doesn't quite react to the side b that was definitely punishable oh my god good patience from lod waiting for his opportunity to grab the ledge and that they're just out long enough to protect lud and get a little bit of extra damage aqua sent back center stage finds a back air here and yeah she scouts out that up they're so aggressive mm-hmm i'm always surprised by how long peach's uh neutral is actually active for to me it seems like a move that's like one strong hit but it's actually like it lasts decently long side going for side the edge cancel he ends up missing that one and pretty even game despite some misses by laud and some really good plays by aqua yeah aqua using the platforms always a nice uh way to escape from peach now a lot stuck in the corner yeah and echo aqua's doing a lot of safe like nares in place fading aerials getting the gun out trying to force law to approach it isn't working though a lot of stickiness game plan finding a little bit of damage with that down smash yeah hang out in the corner getting a turnip and aqua just won't the dash dance is so uh scary honestly it's like he really wants law to just go for an overshot dash attack but we still haven't seen it and acclimated yeah that's right here's the fox one dash attack uh it's one of those moves that holly they're both dash dancing like one on the top platform one beneath the side but yeah fox dash attack can actually combo pretty darn well uh honestly it's like one of those moves that feels like it shouldn't at such high percent but it's still able to wow that was really precise if he started that upbeat any higher he would not have been able to grab the ledge since he was looking the wrong way really nice wave shines out of shield a little too late on the tech chase to get the up there on the side and that's game one four straight wins now for akklo as he has a game win and is he's now in prime position to take the entire tournament he's finally in the lead after coming back through losers and we're waiting on law to come out with these adaptations i know we'll see it at some point but will it be too late yeah i saw someone early on like before the set even began saying uh like 6-0 or something and right now that guy's uh he's probably feeling pretty good about his prediction i have to ask um xx420 blaze it xx in the chat is that the same xbox 420 blaze and xx from all the summoning salt videos like are you like a mario glitch research seeking legend guy because if so shout outs bro like you're a legend like i i have the utmost respect for you my guy damn it there it is here we go the link okay i'm i'm excited for this again i'm sad i didn't see um him play lawn in the other side yeah dude when i was in high school i'm talking like 2008 like 2006. i'm on smashboards i'm practicing l canceling on this stage with link nice the down arrow to see this years later is kind of surreal yeah yeah it's gonna be a lot of game for sure there you're gonna see a lot of bombs boomerangs and turnips being uh being shocked at each other my god yeah peach not really all the shield blocked that turnip so yeah if he doesn't quite have the greatest ability to uh like beat um link up being sweet spot the ledge as far as i'm aware besides like maybe throwing a turnip early or something sure down tilt yep but good patience and drift from law to avoid that what the hell that boomerang went straight down into lawd that was so weird dude the boomerang can go at insane angles um went for forward or there i almost expected the downer but yeah we are um people that play uh break the targets uh you you know about crazy boomerang angles with uh both and young like if you're into btt at all shout outs to hanky-panky oh the trick yeah shout out thank you thank you indeed peach legend and i break the targets legend true yeah live loud with a comfortable lead right now 100 um definitely gonna be able to uh like sit back a little more if he wants i link's projectiles are kind of reactable if you're uh like if you're not super close to him so i definitely will be able to force aclo to be approaching more yeah and it's cool to see this i mean it feels like it's been forever since we've seen laud with like a solid lead um like near the mid point of a game yeah and all it took was a close link to make it a real reality yeah man uh it's honestly going faster than i thought only two and a half minutes in i know they've had either a timeout or like a super close timeout before right why just rolling away while atklo applies pressure with an air oh man oh that backer could have been nice doesn't get anything off of that bomb hit though yeah the the boomerang again coming in at an insane angle and hitting long it seems a little tough but if he finds a kill it's kind of fine yeah now we're at the sort of stage where like things are moving a lot slower okay what's he got no he mashes out i think you've got to down throw my guy yeah i think um maybe like he needed to get to where opera would kill it so he was like trying to mash it up and echo taunting uh as he brings the game to even stocks uh he meant to drop that bomb i believe what a huge hitbox on that downer to hit laud while he was practically besides akklo yeah long lasting too oh he's got the dot eyes this is a dream turnip as tofu has called it aklo has really clawed this all the way back and has somehow found himself with a lead mm-hmm past the halfway point we already mister let's go oh chloe's gonna grab no he's not last one yeah in the last set actually uh in one of the game one of the later games he grabbed mr saturn and ended up uh like sort of costing the game almost though our off air yeah kills i did not know that link had just like guaranteed throw kills yeah yeah he does on marth too that's why some people like think the matchup is not that bad or something this is really impressive and again i think we're seeing that link has been considerably underrated by the competitive melee community um based on his potential that we're seeing he has had relatively the least amount of resources put into him and it's exciting to see a player like acquisition right now what an awesome tech okay this should be the stock but okay another one great drivers from lawd yeah aclose lynx di and amsa tech are absolutely insane like he will live at like 180. oh my god are you gonna take this wow the tomahawk right in lawd's face and log with a lot of pressure on him right now he's nearly about to lose five games in a row and he could be down 2-0 yeah only four percent on him all these turnips are missing and meanwhile the bombs and boomerangs are just building up 110 already online akklo can just feel so comfortable right now everything is going atkl's way right now yeah he has under absolutely no obligation to approach at this [Music] even gets the second one out for the fans yeah i'm pretty sure we have a taunt counter on the stream we can't see it but i think it's at like seven or eight right now i'm sure people in the chat can let us know it's at seven oh my god i am beside myself um i did never imagine we'd be in a world where and again i i've always had so much respect for lot as a player i think that if he wasn't going to med school and he dedicated himself i truly believe he could be a top five player in the world like i think he's shown that kind of potential relative to how much time he is able to invest in the game and with all that said to see a player like aklo come along and taking games with the character like link blows my mind and i just wanted to mention uh just in case anyone doesn't know laud is playing on a digital controller today i don't know if it's a uh frame one or a box um but yeah he's uh still experimenting with new control schemes so that may be one uh reason not like a john or anything but just why he's uh not quite doing as well as other people i think okay for the first time rishi confirms thank you richie that is a really really i'm just glad we know that um it's not john it's an explanation it's like okay we're seeing laud he's not hitting the edge guards on occasion that we're used to him hitting about a hundred percent of the time um but for him to still be playing as well as we're seeing and getting to grand winner side oh yeah like the first time playing a frame one that's really impressive at the same time for sure i think he's he's maybe experimenting to see which one of them he prefers and yeah the down throw up here is so solid for link and another time all that context aside if aqua completes the 6-0 with games five and six being with link that's kind of goated he's doing it too yeah the rapid jab all right aklo escaping the corner with the hackstash yeah he pulled out one of those earlier and hits him with the zero you love to see it yeah i love a good zare for sure look at that boomerang fly oh my god no he's simply back he's just simply alive right now dude these hack stashes trade chill out club okay link what is he doing a good character link is a high oh if he hit that grab i would have lost my mind i am going to come out of retirement and play link now is yeah he's legitimately making link look at least mid-tier in this matchup on the stage i think for what it's worth i do think this is arguably link's best top-tier match up yeah slow um i think young link also does really well for similar reasons but um peach isn't as good as other characters another one he didn't even kill him he taunted it but he didn't even kill him link of the okay up aerial kill you gonna taunt no he's pulling bombs i almost just can't can't believe what we're seeing yeah trying to pull out some save state that's that's not you homie yeah that's not your bro yeah gotta respect save state for uh developing all these bomb techniques it would be sick to see like perfect them though that would be sick safe state walked so aclo could run bro yeah oh my god oh my god these combos yeah the wacky nair too where like the hitboxes out even though the move animation is over in a slow pace like campy projectile heavy matchup like this three hit combos add up [Music] the one thing we don't see from eclo really oh and he does the hacks thing where he does the uh the spot dodge to stay on the stage oh very yeah and going for four throw because the down throw up air wouldn't quite kill i it seems like it kills around like 120 so yeah makes sense forward throw tailing off the top at 173. i've mentioned how laud's last stand can be one of the most difficult that era was insane oh that was like literally shutting me up i'm trying to tell you guys that lot is never out until the game is actually over this could be a 6-0 but it also could be the beginning of a reverse 3-0 yeah you guys know oh 61. i this is starting to look like the end of last game but even worse when when lots got already like up in percent on his last stock and he has to approach ecclo is just throwing whatever he wants right now very nice reverse snare gets the power down smash you can't do anything like you said it's it's not really in peach's uh skill set to cover that okay like okay one more hit and then down throw up here will kill okay that's it yeah if he gets he's just there bro and lord can't do anything about it yeah aklo likes to have fun for sure he's playing with his this is getting hard to watch i love i love when a game ends on like a cool frame because that frame looked awesome dude link had like the glint on his sword uh while he was like just finishing his sp is up b but yeah congratulations to aklo six owing lad uh to take east coast friday's number 164 i think
