Eating Americanized Chinese Food w/ JEREMY LIN | Fung Bros

however I think some of our parents who like grew up in Asia and then move over here they probably look at us sometimes and they CSS this what's going on everybody wanted to another special episode of farm grows food today we are in the Asian food mecca of America Charlotte North Carolina now I'm just playing about our friend just moved here so you know we had to check out some Asian spots introducing our Asian friend Jeremy Lin no live doesn't give you my first time having Asian food and Charlotte ever I know you just moved here you haven't really explored so we're about to check out this spot called Taipei Express go Jeremy I know you're on the MBA diet but you want a cheat day today is a cheat day so I'm gonna explore a little bit maybe have some more carbs and I normally have let's see what it's all about let's do it hope y'all he's got to tell him that his barrel I wan that's very important can we get the Sascha sure just because that sounds good satchel I was trying to get Jeremy to order that he's busy here taking pics alright hey I'm buster fuller definitely gotta get orange chicken you guys like eggplant yeah could I get the pork dumplings please oh and you know because we're in Charlotte we had to do American Chinese food we got pagodas on the boxes man Jeremy you were saying growing up you with your family out of name for this my mom and dad would call it fake Chinese who they get really upset if I go like Panda Express or something like that okay sometimes you got to have some of that obviously they authentic food the majori have you ever thought about bringing your teammates to like a really authentic Chinese wrestling I thought about it but then I was like I did that in college one time it was like hit admit you don't think that Kemba would like the stinky tofu I don't even like toto Oh everybody go around the table and talk about what caught their eye immediately by Rizzo uh first of all the chicken wing authentic Chinese or not you gotta get the chicken wing Oh mmm you like to learn not bad I'll say for me first and I may have to get was the orange chicken yep yep you always have to get like either orange chicken sesame chicken sweet sour chicken if you're going for American Chinese soup I was always a low main guy over fried rice guy and I decided to go a little bit different you know obviously during Sina so I don't want to just eat crazy so I got some tofu Oh Oh veggies right kind of magic kind of rational but if it's a summertime and I don't in like I'm really trying to get after it not eat healthy I don't know about it you know like like I know you got a veggie plate but that's a pretty greasy veggie yeah of course I got this house special fried rice everything I was just gonna get a chicken fried rice with yeah - Lance it's all about the water did he shrink are huge I feel like Jeremy a lot of people like a lot of Asian Americans still can't get over the fact they're like this is not authentic Chinese food and because a lot it's been used to make one of us a lot oh yeah I know what Chinese food I eat you know blah blah blah and when I can afford you good yeah as young Asian Americans we got teased about it so much so we kind of push back on this food but if you can just release yourself from that and just eat it it's pretty good I've told my parents like sometimes I just prefer this it's a different taste you know like an authentic obviously if I had to choose one for the rest of my life everyday I would choose authentic but every once in a while it's okay to have this is like you said it's actually really good if it wasn't like you know labeled as big Chinese food it would still be really good you know what it is ma'am people are getting attached to the meaning of it rather than the takes you that's a great way to put it however I think some of our parents who like grew up in Asia and then move over here they probably look at us sometimes when they see SS and Russ some Chinese characters but this Chinese not that good so he's like hand expressed and because my Chinese is a little bit better maybe I'll be like PA chance that's the thing my teammates are I was like be a change let's put a ph change food and i fear change good don't get me wrong but I might not take my parents 2pf saying that would be okay so right now we're just going to explain some of the dishes this is the sautéed green beans this is called tsujido I like how they are there have been stir-fried to the point where they're kind of dry that's when you know they're good sometimes you get the joints that are too like fresh and like water so get the wok hot this is orange chicken B I don't know even though there's a word for this orange chicken county but they don't even have I don't think is a real dish look at this old the orange peel right in here I don't know how often I see that must I say the Taipei Express is delivering on the American Chinese food this is a class no lie I'm not just saying to the camera it is these are the eggplant and garlic sauce they actually did it pretty authentic in terms of a lot of a lot of places they'll have like the bottom layer drenched in the sauce and in the upper layer won't be as much so it depends what you're looking for you want more flavor a little more unhealthy you go to the bottom between stand atop one thing I love about eggplant has got to be pretty pretty soft which these are so this is this is a good dish I got the tofu black bean sauce this is you have in season special right yeah the ECLA hand under soap it's not deep fried and stir fried tofu and and one thing about it is it should like break really easily you're doing the break test right here yeah I mean it could be a little soft gonna have black bean sauce and strong it's good though I like it I want to talk a real quickly about this sauce shrimp have you guys had it yet tell us tell the people real quick about Sasha as a sauce you know sometimes it's a good sauce for like hot pot or something like that but that was really good I like that maybe it was sparkly artful but there's a little too much broccoli in there I've never had so chop Rockland before in my life I am an American Chinese spa in Charlotte North Carolina and I'm eating Chinese food I've never had before so this is the movable gai pan the water chestnut the peas and that sliced carrot are a staple of American Chinese yeah mmm welcome where you'll see an American Chinese food to see a little baby clones shout out to baby corns man baby corn is more authentic than baby carrots oh because baby carrots are just shaved down into that shape my whole perspective on carrots has been blown yeah the worst is when the orange chicken and the sesame chicken taste the same oh that's one it's all bad when it comes to fried rice I'm not gonna lie he knew embraced with chopsticks is like so frustrating like this fried rice it doesn't come together yeah it's all lumps yeah it's like hard to guard like you trying to contain them with the first pick in the 2015 NBA Draft what was everybody's favorite thing for me I actually got to say it was the chicken wings not harm that's up there I had three of them my favorite was that new dish the sockeye shrimp I think my favorite was a tie between orange chicken into tofu just cuz black bean sauce tofu is just like oh no it's hard to mess that up it was really good oh we cannot speak to somebody said that these are handmade in-house dumplings all right so with these they just came out you can see the steam coming off so what I'll do is I'll just bite the corner off and I'll let it air out authentic what's going to happen you have all this juice inside so you got to make sure you bite top and let it sit like that if you if you laid it all the juice come on yeah we got the fried ones oh she balanced that right on top that's authentic right there my takeaway from this American Chinese food as a genre is progressing as the years go by it's not just staying stagnant progress it's like the game of basketball stretch for this food it does kind of represent a lot of them and it's also interesting that you had some of the evolution is that it is like just as a whole society becoming more health-conscious like you see a lot of like juice bars and things like that popping up and now I see this is like the healthiest
