really is so New York right now what's going on everybody welcome to another special episode of foam Bros food we're in the East Village right now we're gonna show you seven classic New York foods these are seven iconic dishes that either originated from New York City or helped define whether or not you knew they're from New York you might have had some of these seven classic New York dishes let's go the first thing up on our list of classic New York foods bagels and these just saying any regular beggars New York bagels yo you need to get some spread so for those of you guys who don't know bagels are actually a traditional Eastern European Jews food yo $6 for everything that's crazy I like it okay so we're one of the most famous bagel shops in New York Cosby alleys and we have Wow which is sort of like a park bagel rich what were you looking at for our spreads cream cheese right here roasted garlic which herbs so it's crazy so it's salmon LOX prepared like pastrami so I got all the peppers and the spices on it sup Steven what's going on Seattle guys in the building that just goes to show you even when you're in New York at famous bagel spots you never know who you're gonna bump into this is Steven pad no our good friend from Seattle in The New Yorker cuz New York's got the best bagels oh we love Seattle but I think New York got better baby oh man I think babel is a great way to start off your day they're dense it's a carbs not greasy or anything this is definitely bagels on another level you see the layers of flavor right there you know the thing that's about bi Lee's bagels are actually boiled which a lot of people don't know the alleys are not born baked when you put cream cheese on a bagel because here not a smear not a spread it's a schmear okay our very first bite of New York baby there's so much flavor man I'm already feeling like Jerry Seinfeld I know most people are used to the mass-produced bagels from the supermarket but New York completely reinvented my idea of what a bagel is supposed to be in New York bagels are a priority and whatever you do remember it's not a spread it's a smear smear it coming in at number two you know what it is pizza two rows selling pizza four dollar slice that's how we would do it so we got our New York slice right here $2 for luncheon you're good it's a light thin hand toss cross and it's light on the sauce and probably one of the most important parts is the foldability you can fold it right here directly on the pizza or I've seen people fold it with the plate itself however you fold it you just gotta fold it it's like origami so I'm doing the index I'll impress her right here classic pet pretty solid for the price New York style pizza has always been my personal favorite to me deli or Street pizza really represents the core in New York the real New Yorkers the native New Yorkers are still eating a lot of $1 pizzas and they're definitely folding it and eating it on the street because if you don't fold your pizza and you're supposed to be a New Yorker New Yorkers will blast you for it yeah forget about it coming in at number three on our list of classic New York foods hot dogs New York's town you know what we're gonna eat these hot dogs inside because hot dogs are Street food we got to take it to the streets we got three different hot dogs here we got the Coney island-style soap onions I've got the brown mustard the Quecha was a little bit of a mistake try to stop you man this hotdog is based off of a bagel so I got cream cheese I got green onions and I got a lot of everything seeds from the everything bagel I got the Hawaiian dog right here coming with some pineapples got a little bit of teriyaki got some green onions on top we're far from Hawaii but how to get it but the key about New York hot dogs is it has to be all be frank and it has to have all natural cases take me out to the ball game take me out to the class you know we're actually pretty close to Coney Island and that's where they had the famous hot dog eating contest shout out to Kobayashi they shot at the mats Tony I definitely think that New York's probably being better the hotdog but I can't lie I cannot say it's the best hotdog I've ever had it tastes like the hotdogs you would get at any sort of sporting event NBA game MLB game game ring the New York hotdog Frank's are pretty small now I could see why people eat like 72 of them coming in at number four let me give you a clue cops like these Homer Simpson likes these and actually surprisingly a large amount of Asian Americans only shops doughnut okay so you have your regular yeast doughnut or a raised donut which is right here then you have your cake doughnuts which is right here and then also you have your filled doughnuts with the cream inside oh that's crazy it's on the inside all right I think the key for me you know in my Asian sign is this green tea matcha Nona I like it Brooklyn blackout oh that's chocolate on chocolate that based off that New York blackout that they got where Brooklyn at the cruller is one of my favorite doughnuts of all time this really reminds me of it so why are you doing it's such a New York name the modern concept of the doughnut with the frosting why not was invented in when you're sitting in the 1920s also I think because New York loves bagels and these are kind of like the dessert Baker if you even donis you're pretty much either doing doughnuts and coffee or doughnuts a milk okay so my favorite doughnut we tried today was the coconut lime cupcakes trying to come through and steal doughnuts fire but guess what doughnuts are just a little too classic too much staying power all right so my favorite doughnut is a tres leche with some innovative thinking to kind of make them high in and pretty creative my favorite one is green tea one I think doughnuts are here to stay but I'm glad that this spot really came up with the advanced flavors they taking it to the next level coming in at number five in number six we got pastrami sandwiches and New York cheesecake let's do it as you can see this is a major tourist destination this is one of the most yuck spots in New York and actually the entire world don't lose your ticket lost ticket fees apply we're gonna get one pastrami sandwich which is like the most famous thing but since I really love corned beef I got to try the corned beef sandwich it's not salami it's hot pastrami I got to go down there to the to the other end to get the cheesecake though we actually got a lot of requests to try this spot so we're putting it in this video this is no New York staple Katz deli Katz's delicatessen angel so here we got the pastrami and we're gonna go for the porns beef we're gonna go me and rich going with the classic for strong we're in the Lower East Side Elias where pastrami was invented I'm expecting some good that is so much meat roll nobody else other than America puts this much meat in the sandwich look at all this spice you know it's got flavor I know corned beef maybe isn't in the top seven but I had to try it cuz I personally like corned beef Oh in my opinion that's our foreign beef it's supposed to be done number six New York cheesecake whoo yo we got a hook for four hours after the one piece of strawberry up in that really tasted there's between that and like the grocery store cheesecake huge difference boom boom it was magic there's something different about it even I think on the west coast it's not the same as the original from Katz's delicatessen nah man and last but not least coming in at number 7 we've got New York style Chinese okay so you know that we cover a lot of authentic types of Asian foods that you can actually find in Asia but this is purely a New York version of Chinese and you know in the movies when the detectives are trying to figure out who the big bad bosses and connecting all the dots on the board Mallahan looks like it's gonna be a late one tonight she get Chinese all right if it tastes good and it's cooked by a Chinese person is it Chinese food you know what is New York Chinese food let's go get in the General Tso's we getting the beef and broccoli when you get the low mean and then we're gonna get the chicken wings not more authentic Chinese restaurant you definitely do serve chicken wings but they don't look like this no more western style let me tell you this man you didn't think that Asians like fried chicken you were wrong general solo salute um's all right General Tso's dish was invented by Chinese immigrants in New York City when I'm out in New York I'm getting General Tso's men they have had like 100 years experience of cooking this tape good honey y'all want to claim it's Chinese it's Chinese you know that Cantonese then there's northern Chinese and su chuan this is a New York province of China if you come to New York are some New York style Chinese takeout the best here so come to golden forest and see
