if you're a newbie get ready to buy a tractor and you're baffled by all the different types of choices you have for a transmission then this episode's for you so stay tuned this video is brought to you by the lube shuttle and all the other fine products located in the tractor mic fun store use the link in the description to click into the mic store that has some of the most fun and creative products that are available for tractor lovers today hi this is paul from countrycraziness.com if you're interested in tractors post frame construction and homesteading well you've come to a good place why not subscribe tap the bell and join in the conversation you know there's a lot of different choices on tractor transmissions out there and it can be pretty confusing as to what it is that you need but just like everything else when picking out a tractor picking the right transmission is a very important choice that you have to make and today i want to simplify that decision for you it all comes down to applications the best demonstration of what i'm talking about is to take a look at my own situation you look back in the back corner there you can see a tiny pile of gravel well that pile used to be two truckloads worth of gravel and that was a lot a load of work to get that spread out and there'll be a lot more in the future one small look at some of the projects i'm working on right now this field here i'm clearing out with a box blade i want to get the grade down a little bit farther down below the pull bar and i want it smooth and rock free so that it can be grass and cut easily with a lawnmower now by doing that take a look at what i've taken out look at those piles of dirt in the background that's a substantial amount of loader work that i've been doing if i was using a manual transmission tractor every time i wanted to back up i would have to shift it back into reverse again to me a manual transmission tractor doesn't make a lot of sense for most people that are going to be doing 15 or 30 acres worth of property unless you've got crops and all you're going to be doing is plowing the crops in that case a manual transmission is an excellent choice because you just gotta put it in gear and you're gonna go a manual transmission will save you money and it's also kind of probably last longer i think most property owners are probably gonna be into a situation where they're going to use their loader a lot and it's one of the reasons why they wanted a tractor in the first place so my recommendation really is to find a tractor that either is a fully hydrostatic transmission or a transmission that you can shift and forward and reverse without having to clutch the shift lever changing gears is not that big a deal you're not going to be doing it constantly so whether or not you have to stop the tractor if you have to stop in clutch or whatever the case may be i don't think is an important consideration but if you're doing a lot of loader work then having some type of situation where you can go forward and reverse either by using the pedals on a hydrostatic or perhaps a shuttle shift transmission if it doesn't require clutching then that may be the way to go like everything else the most important thing is is to go to the dealer sit on their tractors take them for a test drive and talk to the salesman about what your applications are [Music]
