g'day guys Ryan Martin here I want to make this video to show you how to record with GarageBand I've got a really simple setup here with a little Scarlett solo focus right product which comes with the microphone and the headphones and we're going to show you how I recorded a song with it so the first thing you want to do when you're setting this up is once it's straight out of the box you're going to connect it through a USB to your computer and that gives it power there's no need for an Excel power source which is really handy the microphone attaches with an XLR my guitar over here and the last one is the headphones there's three inputs that you need to put in there is space at the back here for external monitors if you do have those but I don't so I'm just going to be listening to my headphones you 1 2 2 2 2 2 1 2 2 2 1 2 1 2 2 2 2 open up your GarageBand and create a new project you're gonna be prompted here by asking you what input devices you'd like to use you can see here that my scarlet solar has two channels so it's asking me which channel I would like to record on the way that the scarlet Solo is set up microphone always goes through channel 1 and guitar goes through channel 2 and you can check your output devices also the scarlet that you're using so so if I will set up two channels one for vocals and one for guitar and you can see through the two channels here nothing's ready to record we need to right click on the channel and click on configure track header and then record enable and you can see these flashing record buttons the tracks are armed and ready to go then when you click record I'm playing the guitar here and I'm hearing the vocals on channel one so there are two separate split channels which I can then edit individually important to look at the waveforms and say that they're not clipping which means that they would come to a flat surface or they'd hit the top and the bottom and it's a nice flowing form they have an individual slider for a volume level on each channel that you can customize and up the top you can see the overall volume which is into the yellow right now so that's how to get a track up we have two channels and start recording but I want to show you how I found I can record the best quality I don't necessarily go with guitars and vocals first I've been going with a drum track to start off with because it's much harder to line up your drum track after your guitars down I found is easier to lay down the drum track play the guitar and the vocals over the top of it and it keeps me in time it's really important that when you're doing this you find a drum beat that you want to start with because it's going to flow through your guitar and your bow there are so many ways to actually customize how the drums sound and customize the drummer so play around with it but what is important is the tempo setting which is right at the top which you can see I'm playing with now and also the key that it's seen I know my vocals and guitar are ready to go because they're flashing red run the record button which means they're armed ready and so when I hit record you can see I'm playing the guitar and the vocals and they're coming in separately so you can change them and edit them later on you the problem with the drum track being included is that only if it gives you say like four bars so you've got to come down here and tell it how long you would like the drums to go and you're only by default given I think it's 32 bars and right at the top here if I click and drag that out you can maximize however many bars of music you want so in this track which I've already recorded with different parts I've got my vocals on the top track then a electric lead guitar then the rhythm guitar and then the drum track which I as I mentioned started with be aware that there's so many different ways you can customize your drum kit even separately those bars that I'm clicking on there now so for instance I intensified my drum beat during my guitar solo to create a bit more interest and the last thing I laid down was a bass guitar and through all the settings in your vocals and in your guitar there's so many different options and it's really just playing with that getting familiar with what's there and seeing what you like specifically to the song now in here you can customize your amps and there's lots of settings that you might might like to play with with your aims this templates that GarageBand suggests but then you can also go down into the model and the and change your Eames there's also guitar pedals if you'd like to play around with some effects as well which is pretty cool and the last I'm gonna leave with you is when you're with playing guitar there's a tuner button up here so it's really handy to click on that and tune your guitar for you all right so the only thing left to do now is to run through the track and see how it sounds it's a One for the Money two for the show three to get ready now go cat go but don't you step on my booze with you you can knock me down to bit in my face stand on my name [Music] [Music] [Music] well you can knock me down say in my face slant on my name all over the place do anything you wanna do but honey lay off my blue shoes [Music] [Music] you can do it [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] so that's it guys that say he gets to Halloween guardian so I haven't played with it I hope you enjoy it if you have any questions feel free to comment below I'd really appreciate if you subscribe to my channel that will let me know that you want to see some more videos and enjoy
