speed ram transitions inside of davinci resolve 18  are super simple to create and they help to just   overall up the production quality of your videos  but there's one thing that you should keep in mind   when you want to create a speedrun transition and  that is that your shots both have to have camera   movements so for example if you're moving your  camera in the one shot from left to right make   sure that it is moving from left to right again  in the second shot but with that being said speed   ramp transitions are super easy to create right on  the edit page first of all you have to take your   shots for example like this drone shot right here  i'm just gonna drag and drop it onto my timeline   and then i want to transition into this drone  shot so i'm going to drag and drop this onto   my timeline just like so so what i'm going to  be doing now is first of all i'm going to zoom   in into my timeline and then the next step is that  we actually open up the rear time controls and the   rear re-time curves this is where all the magic  will happen so in order to open up the retime   controls just highlight your clip hit command  or control and r this is the default shortcut   for the return controls if you don't want to  work with shortcuts whatever just right click on   the clip and go to return controls then on the  same clip just right click once again and open   read time curve this will bring this viewer up  first of all we have to go to this drop down menu   right here where it says retime frame and we don't  want to retime the frame we just want to retime   the speed so click the drop down menu and this  list will open up and then deselect retime frame   and select a retime speed so once you've done that  just determine the point on where you want the   speed ramping to start let's say something right  here is where i want the transition or the speed   ramping to start so what i'm going to be doing is  in the top right of my return curve there is this   keyframe button which i'm gonna click this will  automatically create a speed point then what i'm   gonna be doing is you right now have two lines one  on the left side which is a hundred percent and   one on the right side which is a hundred percent  as well so i'm gonna click the one on the right   and just drag it up just like so and you can see  the number here increases if you don't wanna use   the line to increase the speed you can also  go into the top right corner of your clip just   like here and when your cursor changes to in a  black arrow pointing left and right then you can   click and drag it in just like so and let's say  gonna go with something over a little over 500   but if you don't want to do that and you want to  choose the curve right here just click and pull   this up and right now it's kept at 300 percent in  order to change that if you want to be if you want   it to be faster what you gotta do is right now  in the top right corner where it says 300 just   hover over that and if your cursor turns into an  arrow pointing left and right which is wide then   click and drag this over to the right and you can  see it is increasing right now and let's go crazy   with something 1300 and then what i want to be  doing is i'm gonna click the line once again   and i'm just gonna pull this up towards a thousand  percent which ultimately is a little bit crazy but   we can see that the faster you're going with this  clip right here with this specific clip right here   the overall transition is actually going to be  better but when we play this back right now it   is somewhat of a harsh jump from 100 to over  a thousand percent and i want to make this   curve a little bit more smooth so i'm gonna select  my keyframe button right here my speed point   and then i'm gonna hit this button right here  the curve button and you can see that it actually   created a curve right now i'm going to zoom in  just a little bit more something like that and you   can use those handles to the left and the right  to make this a little bit more drastic or a little   bit more smooth and let's go with something a  little bit more smooth something like that should   work fine so once we've done that we can actually  close the re-time curves and the re-time controls   for this clip right-click ready time curve  deselect that right-click retime controls and   deselect that then move over to your second clip  then what i'm going to be doing is right click   retime controls and right click once again and  select read time curve then what we want to do   is assume inches a little bit until we see the  drop down retime frame and this is where we want   to click again deselect every time frame select  read time speed right now we have to determine   the point where we want the speed ramping to end  because we transition from very slow to very fast   and then start very fast and then gradually  go over back to normal speed and i want to go   back to normal speed at around let's say let's  say at around at this point in time right here   so what i'm going to be doing is i'm going to go  over to the top right of my retime curves window   and select the keyframe button which then will  create a speed point for me right now we don't   have to deal with the end of the clip because we  just have to speed up the beginning of the clip   so what i'm going to be doing now is i'm going to  go over to the top left of my return curves window   where it says 300 i'm just going to increase this  a little bit and then i'm gonna click the line and   just pull it up around a thousand percent then i'm  gonna select my speed point and i'm gonna select   this curve button right here and i'm gonna just  gradually move the curve just a little more   so it's a little bit more smooth and once we've  done that we can actually right click deselect   return curve right click the select return  controls then we can watch this back and   see if we like the transition or if we have  to go back and change the read time speed   just a little bit and one way to enhance this  effect even more is to add some fake motion blur   and we can do that by going to our effects library  grabbing the adjustment clip and just drag it over   where the cut is then go back to the point where  you start the speed ramp transition right around   here shrink this adjustment clip and then go to  the point in time where the speed ramping ends   right around here and shrink that even more so  that the adjustment clip just fits the point where   the speed ramping actually happens then what i  want you to do is go to open effects and choose   either the directional blur if you go from left  to right right to left up and down down and up or   use the zoom blur if you go in and out out and in  so let's just use the zoom blur for this example   and right about that time at the start of the  adjustment clip i want to go to my inspector in   the top right corner go to effects and then  set the zoom amount to zero set a keyframe   and then go to the middle where the cut is  actually happening and then go to zoom amount   and then just crank that up just a little bit  and what we could do is use some center extrusion   something like right there should be good  and crank that up just a little bit more   something like that then go towards the end   and reset the blur amount back to zero so when  we play this back this should look super good all right did you notice that that looks  pretty darn good that's a wrap i hope you   enjoyed today's tutorial if so please consider  leaving a like and a comment that would mean a   ton to me but anyways hope you're having  a great day see you in the next one bye
