[Music] okay so for this pot roast that i'm making today i'm going to start with a seasoned dredge here i have three tablespoons of all purpose flour to that i'm going to add some dry seasonings i have one and a half teaspoons of seasoned salt a half teaspoon of sea salt you could use whatever salt you have i have a teaspoon of garlic powder teaspoon of onion powder and a half teaspoon of cracked black pepper and just kind of actually just pour it in yeah i'm gonna give this a mix and this is what i'm going to coat and dredge my chuck roast with okay so for my pot roast i am going to be using a two and a half pound beef chuck roast um somewhere between two to three pounds works with this recipe so first thing i'm going to do to season and coat this is to add my flower seasoned dredge here on this baking sheet kind of just move it around dredge this and coat this so once it's coated i'm going to brown this on all sides until it gets a golden brown crust on the exterior okay so here in a large pan i have somewhere between a third to a half cup of oil i just wanted to make sure the bottom is coated because i really want to get a good sear and brown on the exterior of this roast and i have this on a fairly high heat it's at least medium high is what you want to work with there we go and i'm just going to brown and sear on each side even get some of the the outer edges um i'm going to let this sear at least on the first two sides for about three to four minutes okay so i'm done browning my meat i'm gonna set it to the side here and now i'm going to move on to make a gravy okay so i removed a lot of the excess oil and fat that was in the pan it's mainly oil by the way and here to the leftover dredge i added one and a half tablespoon basically you'll want around a quarter of a cup of flour mine already has that seasoning in it so i'm not going to season it but if you're just using plain flour you'll want to season it i'm going to put my heat on a medium heat and i'm going to create a roux and i tell you what i forgot one step you'll want to saute onions first but there's me being in a hurry better late than never so i had a small onion that i chopped it was half of a small onion but you'll want to give it a good saute first but if you forget just toss it in with a roux now i'm going to slowly add one can of beef broth you could use stock broth this was a 14 and a half ounce can okay i'm going to add the last bit of broth to the pan give it a mix let it thicken and it's done okay so now i'm ready to put everything into my roasting pan i typically like to use this when i'm baking hams or a larger pot roast maybe like a four to five pound uh chuck roast but this is what i'm gonna go with today so roast in i have one stick of celery going in i have three medium to large potatoes that i just chopped into quarters and in halves it's really just you know every which way i've got carrot and you could also do onion but i have onion in the gravy so that'll work now i'm just going to add all of that gravy on top okay everything is seasoned well you can add more potatoes carrots this is just what i'm working with today i'm going to cover this with a lid and i am going to bake this or roast this slow cook this let me choose the right word here i'm going to slow cook this in an oven preheated to 275 degrees fahrenheit for about three hours if you're doing a four to five pound chuck roast it's gonna take four to five hours basically until it is falling apart and tender uh you don't have to cook it till it's falling apart but definitely tender okay so um while the pot roast is roasting or baking in the oven here i wanted to say that this recipe there's so many ways to make pot roast you can add fresh rosemary thyme dried rosemary and thyme red wine to deglaze the pan there are so many different methods this approach and method to pot roast is very simple it's actually a riff off of my aunt's pot roast she likes to use store-bought gravy packets um and she'll make the gravy on the side and she adds it to her browned pot roast and you know that's kind of basically what i did i'm just baking it in the oven because i've i do notice in the comment section that a lot of people don't want to use their slow cooker they prefer an oven method so that's why i'm showing you the oven method but really it's a riff off of my aunt's recipe um and she likes to season it using the onion soup pack you know the onion soup dry mix she seasons it with that and she'll use a pack of like the gravy and i mean it's really good it's simple and easy but definitely jazz up your pot roast and create other levels of flavor with red wine and fresh herbs definitely works okay so it has been three hours at remember 275 degrees fahrenheit i've had this in the oven and take a look at this now i know this doesn't look like much in a giant [Laughter] [Music] um roasting pan but um i mean it's tender and one way to check is i kind of just in the thickest part and if it comes out easily it goes through easily kind of just really easily it's it's tender um i'm gonna let this rest but this sauce gravy because i created a thick gravy to pour over it it's just the sauce is really good and you definitely can skim the rendered fat from the top um you know to have less fat in your sauce but it goes great over these tender potatoes and the same thing with potato you get just kind of poke it and it goes through easily comes out easily it's good so i'm super excited i'm gonna let this rest for about 15 to 20 minutes or until i'm ready to use it you can keep the um if you have other things to make just kind of keep your lid on like that in about 15 minutes i'm gonna show you what it looks like okay so here i've already sliced into this it rested for about 20 minutes and you can see how tender and juicy it is and if you truly want it falling apart where you don't get these tender slices you can take it a little bit further with extra liquid you can adjust the recipe but if you are going to do that you'll probably need to add an extra cup or two of beef broth and then that'll really allow it to kind of get fall apart but i like these pieces i'm going to continue slicing it i'm going to add it right into the gravy and i actually skimmed off all of that rendered fat on top of the gravy so all i'm left with is juices gravy and those tender potatoes and carrots it's gonna be good and i'm also going to be serving this with butter noodles so be on the lookout for that recipe video as well i hope you give this recipe a try i hope you like it and thanks for watching [Music] you
