Easy First Drum Lesson - For Kids!

hi parents please consider giving us a like and a subscribe to this channel and also we've got a ton more lessons at mymusicworkshop.com hope to see you there [Music] [Applause] hey guys i'm ready to play some drums are you i've got my drumsticks in my hand do you have your drumsticks if you don't have drumsticks remember you can use wooden spoons from the kitchen or spatulas or something like that until you get your drumsticks also do you have your drum cut out ready to go and put on your drum or on your practice pad or on a pillow or the floor or wherever you're going to be playing okay hopefully you've got that set too now let's remember how we hold our drumsticks this is the tip of the drumstick and i take my thumb and i point it to the tip now i don't take my pointer finger and point that one to the tip i use my pointer finger and my thumb to squeeze the drumstick gently and i take all my other fingers and wrap them around the stick gently just like this i'm going to take my two hands holding them the same way holding the sticks the same way and i'm going to put them over my drum and i want my thumbs to be kind of on the side of the drumsticks not on the top i don't want my thumbs on the top i want them on the side all right let's talk about the pattern we're gonna play today it's gonna be single strokes and single means one doesn't it so that means one hit or one stroke with each hand check out the pattern it's red blue red blue quarter notes those are quarter notes right they've got full bellies and tails and i'm gonna count that pattern one two three four we're gonna play it at two different tempos first we're gonna learn it at a slower tempo then we're gonna speed it up and play it at a fast tempo and here's the fun part there's gonna be music as we play along okay if you wanna stop the lesson two to get a little extra practice make sure you do that that's fine if you're not ready to go to the faster tempo or even to another pattern stop the lesson and practice a little bit on your own until you're ready okay i took my drum cut out and i flipped it around so it's the same as yours this is your right side and this is your left side and so i've got my left and right my red and blue the same as yours so when i play this stick or this hand that's going to be right and when i play this stick or hand that's going to be left you can play just like i'm playing alright are you ready grab your sticks hold them the right way and we are gonna play our single strokes eight times and i always count us in too before we start i say one two ready go okay that's how i'm going to start us each time we play a pattern here's our first single stroke starting with our right hand or the red side are you ready one two ready [Music] two go four [Music] great job are you ready to speed it up if not that's okay go back and practice it as many times as you need to but let's pick up the tempo if you're ready one two ready go [Music] [Music] how was it could you do it i had tons of fun with it hopefully you did too remember to have fun all right you ready for the next pattern well it's the same pattern except flipped around that means we're going to start with our left hand first or the blue side we're going to do a slow one and then a faster tempo are you ready to start that okay look at the quarter notes there are four of them again and it's blue red blue red ready to do that one okay it starts with left hand this side one two ready go [Music] great work sometimes the left side is a little trickier but are you ready to speed up if you're not practice that one as many times as you need to but if you're ready to go a little faster let's do it one two ready go one two [Music] three [Music] great work awesome job we did two patterns we did single strokes starting with our right hand and then again with our left hand and we did them at different tempos a slower and a faster one if you want to go back and practice that a little bit more go ahead but in the next part of the lesson we're going to learn some more patterns are you ready for that i'll see you there hi parents we hope you and your child enjoy that music lesson hey if you did please consider giving us a like and a subscribe to this channel and also we've got a ton more lessons at mymusicworkshop.com hope to see you there
