Easy $20 water filter build preparing for Drought. Lead farmer 73 my “MURKY WATER FILTER”

hey everybody live53 here i know we've talked about storing water but we also need to talk about filtering water because you may run out of your water stores like this once you run out you may find some more in a pond a creek a lake so on and so forth you need to know how to filter that water to make that water safe for drinking i'm going to show you another way i know i have the berkey water filter which is excellent but there is another way to filter your water by doing it the old-fashioned way and we're going to get right down into it okay stick with me on this trust me this is going to help you in a pinch all right the first thing you're going to need is a couple of food grade buckets five gallon buckets and two lids next thing you're going to need it's in hardwood charcoal now i'm going to show you how to make this yourself but if you can't make it yourself right now and it is an emergency right now don't worry about it just go to your local big box store and get some hard wood real lump charcoal not that other brand stuff try that okay all natural that's what you want to get the next thing we're going to need is pea gravel small round gravel like this now it's clean and it's good but we're still going to have to clean this stuff off okay but you want small pea-sized gravel now you're gonna need clean play sand it's the kind of sand you will put in your kid's playground it's safe for people okay first thing we're going to need is some kind of barrel or bucket something that you do not mind getting messy and dirty this is what our charcoal looks like listen to the sand it's hollow inside that's what we're looking for okay so we're gonna dump this right in our container it should be very easy to break like that now we're going to use something to crush it up with and nothing works better than a good old swatter we're trying to break this down into a fine powder it's going to take a little work so only do a little at a time i'm finding it a lot easier to just put it on the ground and crunch it up plus when i'm done i can just sweep it up and use it this way this is way faster [Music] now this is the difference between what we just did in five minutes versus what came out of the bag here this will work but the finer the better okay so i want this down into powder and i'm gonna show you how to get there i'ma try to get a little bit more finer and i thought about instead of putting it in a blender do it just like i'm grinding herbs the finer the better look at that fine crush powder in there big difference right next thing we're going to do is clean off this pea gravel pretty much going to do this the same way put it out here in the ground but this is supposed to be clean tea gravel but look at all the stuff that's coming off of it it probably pre-washed now look how different that looks than it was we're gonna wash this sand this place sand off the same way so i'm gonna just try my best to get as much nasty mess out of it as i can see all that mess right there i'ma let that come to the top totally different ain't it now watch this that's not saying that's just the liquid pouring off that color okay we want to keep cleaning that until we get a result something like this you see what i see clean sand all right family we got our ground up carbon charcoal we got our clean gravel and we have our clean play sand that we just all prepared all of this now i'm going to show you how to put all of this together all right we got our full gray bucket what we're going to be doing is putting a tap on it so what we're going to do we're not going to put it directly on the bottom here that's just entirely too low the reason i want to bring this up about two to four inches because that's going to give us a cleaner water all the sediment can fall down here and up top a little further up will give us a cleaner water when it's time to drink every blue moon you'll have to come in and clean whatever sediment that's settled down here out but you should be cleaning out your bucket anyway so let's get right into it clean off any burrs off the sides make sure it's a clean cut on the outside especially the inside as you can see our next step it comes with washers so what we're going to do is put these washers onto our spigot like so one on the inside one on the outside just like that we're gonna put that right our spigot right in the bucket perfect and now on the inside we're going to put our other washer on that side just like that now here's the plastic nut that comes along with it now all you're going to do is screw that on there that's going to make a water tight seal you shouldn't need any tools and there you have it there's going to be your water spout right there okay okay now we're going to take another food grade bucket and another lid and we're going to drill a hole in this the center of this lid and we're going to drill a hole in the bottom of this food grade bucket okay so i'm finding that it'll move a lot faster if we put a few more holes under the bottom of the filter bucket and a few more holes in the lid like this i think that might be enough now we're gonna take our full grade bucket with the spigot on it and put the lid with the hole in it on the top what that's going to do is allow water to go down through here the other full gray bucket with the hole that you drilled in the center will sit on top of that okay so now what you're going to have is a filtering system stick with me forever i've been saying always keep your old t-shirts all of your old cotton and it's reasons for everything you can turn these into anything this is a good day for that so what we're going to be doing i'm taking an old pillowcase we're going to take this old pillowcase this old cotton pillowcase and we're going to use it so now we're going to take our pillowcase and we're going to take the bucket at the top with the hole on the bottom we're going to line our pillowcase that fits right inside here like this now if you don't have a pillowcase or you don't want to destroy the one you got you can take your cotton rags and just line the bottom of this okay now here comes the fun part remember all the things that we washed off earlier the charcoal turned into carbon the pea gravel and the sand we're gonna be filling this in here like a dagwood sandwich we're gonna layer that all in the bucket okay the first thing we're gonna put in is our carbon our ground up charcoal that we ground up together but as you can see that's what we're going for right there i'm just pour that down there i'm gonna bring that up about two inches like that we're going to do the same thing with the sand and bring it up about two inches don't worry about it getting wet in there because that's what this is all about okay and now we're going to add our our pea gravel that we washed off i'm going to add about three to four inches of it so now we're going to put our bucket with the spigot on it here we're going to put the lid with the hole on it here and now we're going to put our new filtration system on the top of all of this with the hole in the bottom in the filter inside as you can see we got carbon sand and gravel filter so i know everybody is waiting for the test right what's going to happen is this carbon is going to make the water dark but you have to run that through the reason why we washed all the gravel we washed all the sand first see all the nasty impurities that was in there well we want to get rid of that first we couldn't do the carbon like that so we're going to have to let that come out and run through but pretty soon we're going to do a test dark murky pond water and we're going to run it through this system and i'm gonna show you how it works so let's go so as you can see the water is running straight through and this is what we got it is working that water is going to be ugly at first but we run that through about three or four or five times it's gonna be pure as rain water okay family i brought out a test subject this is the berkey water perfectly clean tighten the lid up this is our test subject that's out of my berkey water filter this is what i'm trying my hardest to achieve so that's our berkey water this is our murky water brought out a jar to see now we all saw the mud you couldn't see through that mud let's see how how we doing so far oh yeah oh yeah do you see that we can at least see through it i mean the cliff the system is cleaning itself out and we gotta run through it a few times but for the most part that's not bad we can still see through that you couldn't see through that mess before through i'ma just keep doing this until we get some kind of clear product okay y'all this is the second run through so what i decided to do from now on because i'm not going to be able to tell so i went and brought got a whole bunch of jars so i can start seeing how much clearer each run through is going to get it's getting better it's definitely getting better oh my god it's working so dope look at this here's our berkey water and here's our murky water tell me that thing don't work this is only our second run through family this this is the berkey this is the murky this is run two i'm keeping track of every last run i do from here on out but as you can see up close that ain't far off that ain't far family from the from the mud we had in the beginning to this let's keep going all right family third run through this is number three it looks a lot better but it got a long way to go here we go that's looking so much better that's a lot better all right put the top on it all right zoom out let that let that chill for a second as you can see this is run number three from the mud this was mud now i'm going to show you compare it to number two very close but you can see a stark difference you see that look at that run number two run number three now let's compare that to our control berkey water what are you kidding me berkey and this is the third run through our murky water filter that is incredible remember this was mud let's do it again back at it with leads murky water filter all right here we go run number four let's write it on the jar here we go let's see what we got come on number four come on come on come on baby that sure looks good that looks alive all right you guys this is run number four now that's where we are from the mud number five let's go ahead crank it out i'm telling you this works so wonderfully i'm so excited to see exactly oh my god we coming for you berkey we coming for you look look at that look at that now bam all i'm saying is if you think this is a joke if you think this is a gimmick if you think what i'm doing is fake in and and not true look all over the internet look all over youtube look at that if you think i'm pulling your leg right now please look all over the youtube look all read a bunch of books and you'll see matter of fact better yet make it yourself and you will see you will see the truth for yourself now let's go over here and put number five with the rest of the game is getting better and better and better for this is berkey look look where we are remember that's where we started from two three wait till that sun come back out you don't even gotta be able to see that well to see what that is that's our control that's the berkey water that's leia's murky water number five that's our last run that's number four let me back that up do you see what i'm talking about i should have filled five or more okay we filled that up more but what does that look like to you you know what i'm saying you get this same water quality out of a restaurant out of your sink right here with number five run through don't believe me don't believe this works just try it for yourself now what we gonna do what we gonna do now is the ultimate test i'm gonna put straight mud in there now and see where we are with these real comparisons real mud i know it works but i need to be sure that's what we looking like that's what we looking like now i'm gonna run this straight up straight through get a better look all right i want you to be able to see the color of that perfect i'm gonna show you what it looks like inside that's what we looking like number six y'all the big test number six oh it works it really really really works it's not as pretty as the rest but it worked [Music] it's not beautiful and it'll probably have to run through again but it's sure the heck ain't this right here it's not that anymore you
