there are a lot of you guys out there right now that are having a real problem with those new Briggs & Stratton carburetors out there those square shaped plastic carburetors that are coming on a lot of your lawn mowers if you have a lawn mower that won't start I want you to try this first before you go ripping the carburetor apart thinking that it needs cleaned check this first it's an easy thing to check it's an easy thing to repair and it is a super common problem on these coming right up [Music] hey guys welcome back to Steve small engine saloon again thanks for tuning in again look what I got in the mail like literally half an hour ago my new Steve small engine saloon long sleeve t-shirt right here I also got a new phone case check that out Steve small a new saloon comm there's a tab at the top says t-shirts and stuff take you back to to buy some of that stuff if you want you just another way of supporting my channel if you want to we're talking about this lawnmower today this engine with that square plastic Briggs & Stratton carburetor on it I'm gonna show you something right now that is a common problem on these things super easy to check don't go ripping the carburetor off and thinking it needs cleaned before you check this easy to check won't start take your air filter cover off and pull your air cleaner off of there now look in this bottom hole right here might need a little flashlight or something like that to look in there now see if that choke is closed or not if it's if this lawnmower is absolutely stone-cold that choke flap should be closed now you're choking it when you start it if it's open like this that's the problem right there that should be closed when it's cold and and it'll start for you if it's open like that I'm going to show you what the problem is right now all is you need to do is get this top cover off and then now you have a clear view right down on top of this carburetor and you can see what I'm talking about now look at this right here this is your choke Matt mechanism right here moving back and forth that is opening and cool closing your choke butterfly to make your engine start now look at this when I push this all the way forward like that look what happened right there it's stuck it's stuck wide open it's not choking anymore it's gonna stay like that till you're and even when your engines cold again it's gonna stay stuck open your engine is not going to start it should move absolutely freely all the way forward all the way back without sticking you see what it's sticking on right there it's sticking on this metal plate that's right on the front to the front side of your mower easy way to fix that right there is needlenose pliers or crescent wrench that you move down quite thin like that channel lock players anything like that and you also need a beer for doing this I'm going with backs today oh yeah literally always you have to do is just get in there with something and pry this metal plate out like we're talking like a sixteenth of an inch small amount give in there like that and Bend this metal out like this very lightly and then try that mechanism again and see if it clears out now it's actually clearing that I didn't pull on that very hard I bet that out like literally a sixteenth of an inch and now it's going back to where it should so when your lawnmowers cold the choke is going to be closed again and next time you start it boom it's gonna start up again for you right there absolutely a design flaw in these engines I'm not saying every one of them does it but a lot of them do it enough of them do it where it actually warranted a video for me to do this because I see enough those coming through the shop now I'm not saying that that's the only problem with these carburetors there is another issue with these carburetors and it does involve taking the carburetor apart and cleaning it with something to do with the main jet I'm going to take you through that on another video when I have that video up you're gonna see a link come up here in the top right hand corner when I get that video done for now though that's a common problem I hope that helped some of you guys out there give me that thumbs up button like button subscribe button share button that would be awesome if you guys can do that for me that's beer til the next video guys Steve out
