E55 VS. E63 AMG | Which one to buy? (4K)

[Music] in this video I'll be comparing the e55 AMG to the e63 AMG in both the w211 body style this is one of the most asked questions on my previous videos whether to buy an e 55 40 63 so in this video we'll try and answer that I'll start with the styling and interior of the two cars obviously the two share a lot of their styling and the facelift was very minor on the e63 however a lot of a 55 owners still put the e 63 bumper on their car as it has a more aggressive look there are other things too such as the headlights with extra streaks different taillights and a small lip spoiler on the trunk the interior is very similar in the two cars however the e63 got nice shifting paddles on the steering wheel instead of just buttons and the steering wheel itself is more inspired by the Mercedes SL line and the instrument cluster as well was updated with black gauges instead of the white ones in the e55 [Music] the seats are also different with a smaller thigh boulders on the e63 compared to the 55 the e63 seats overall are more inspired by the CLS line in terms of performance the e63 and e55 AMG have a different character the e55 is thought to be more of a straight line performer and the e63 more of a dynamic car like the e60 BMW m5 i have some figures on screen from motor trend for the acceleration performance and sport auto for some lap times and you can see the ut5 generally known to be a little bit quicker in a straight line than the e63 but a little slower on the track now the straight line performance is on the e55 is thanks to its supercharged engine and massive torque and slightly underrated power now in the cornering department the e63 is ahead because of its newer features such as faster steering compared to the u55 finally I'll discuss the reliability of these two cars and there are some differences here the engine of the e55 AMG is known to be very reliable and free from major issues and really only goes to your normal where items or maybe a supercharger pulley bearing or something like that the e63 on the other hand is known to have engine issues that are quite significant but they don't occur that often the first one is the factory head bolts which can crack and cause damage to the engine and serious damage such as even hydro locking the engine now you can prevent a doubly fix this but it can be quite expensive for new head bolts the engine is also known to have issues of premature wear in the heads due to the iron camshafts wearing on the steel lifters so keeping clean oil and a correct level is especially essential to the e63 AMG and other m156 cars from this period because you want to minimize any potential wear in those heads my thoughts on the engines are that the e55 has a much more both cool simple single overhead cam engine with no variable anything it's a very basic either 63 on the other hand it's a double cam v8 and as variable valve timing very advanced Angie's first engine from the ground up it's much more sophisticated than that in the e55 but the trade-off is the more complication to it the seven 22.6 transmission b55 is known to be strong but of its slow a testament to its strength is that it lived on in the s65 until 2013 the newer generation 7 to 2.9 in the e63 is a faster and more responsive transmission and fits well with the higher revving but less torque and 156 engine the braking systems of these two cars have some trade-offs the e55 has the SBC braking pump which can go bad at higher mileage and costs a lot to replace now the e63 has a conventional braking system so you don't have to worry about that the trade-off is that the e63 uses very expensive two-piece rotors and the e55 uses conventional brake rotors which are much cheaper to buy the e63 is also known to break slightly better modifying magazine did stop slightly shorter with the e63 both cars share much the same aromatic suspension system so they're both susceptible to having aromatic leaks aromatic failures at higher mileage ease now the e63 AMG will obviously cost more on the user market as it is a newer model that ultimately will place that you 55 so the e55 is definitely more attainable they also made more of these 55 AMG s so they're a bit more common bit easier to find then a really clean a 63 overall the e63 is a great car and probably the better more polished overall package if you want to buy one of these cars and keep it stock if these 63 is a great car to get but the enterprise is also good for that too but with the e55 it's easier to modify it for more power because the e55 does have that factory supercharger versus the e63 with that naturally aspirated engine it's really hard to do any modifications at a low cost that'll give you big gains for me ultimately the e55 is the cry to have and that's because I just love the low down torque which the e63 doesn't have but ultimately which car is best for you of these two comes down to what you'll be using it for and what your budget and goals for modifying the cars are the e55 is the cheaper option and you can make it go even faster for less than a 63
