E19 | The Big Lap of WA - Cape Range National Park (Exmouth) and South Lefroy (Ningaloo Station)

[Applause] do so this episode will leave uh geralia stations day and we shoot down the coast through ex-mouth and down into cape range national park where we stay at karajong camp area and then from there we crossed yardy creek and we head to south lafroy and ningaloo station by the way if you're noticing quite a lot of music in these episodes it's because it was so windy um the wind has destroyed a lot of audio so i've overlaid it with backing tracks that's just wa windy always so we've packed up we're heading into ex-mouth we'll do some shopping there we need to grab a parcel from the post office and then we're going to head into cape range national park and we'll be there for three nights we're staying at a camp called current job we're at a campsite called tarajong there's lots of campsites dotted along here and they're all pretty much much of the same i think yeah um they're all 22 a night because they're all run by deport i think there's drop toilets no water um [Music] so we're going to peel go no man go watch it's a truck like half a k or a k or so from our campsite it's a 300 meter return walk um and there's lots of rock wallabies that you can see at dawn and dusk apparently what are we looking for we're looking for me looking for zombies what are they called zombies zombies no they're wallabies bobby yeah wallabies not zombies they're the same ones that were in the um rock walls a la cargo oh yeah do you know where you're climbing what do you think all those little black rocks are do you know what all that is here's how many wallabies are here all this that is an avalanche of wallaby [Music] done [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] we could see on wiki camps a point of interest just south of us um where there's a hill you can drive up to to get some reception so we'll probably cruise up there just to have a look at the um the tides and the wind and figure out because we'll be here for two full days figure out which day is going to be better for snorkeling poor old tiff hates full driving but she did that full ride track for you guys so he could post a video that was fine compared to that bloody mountain the hurry track it was easy oh yeah that's your um measure now is it right oh forecast tides winds checked netflix netflix downloaded bookings for accommodation um and youtube instagram post scheduled videos scheduled questions and dms and pms replied to and we are ready to drive down and find somewhere for a swim and a snorkel today i think judging by the swell on the tides um i'll bang the drone up to follow us down now because it's a pretty cool little drive [Music] so just got back from that full drive trip up to um telstra hill there and we've obviously missed missed someone they've left some beers for us that was really nice obviously and so thank you brendan maria curtis and isaac um shoot us a message so we can send you some stickers that was really [Music] cool don't lose this one yeah i'm gonna try not to the last time i took a gopro in the water we lost it of course and uh manning gorge on the gib river road so we're heading off to oyster stacks for a swim uh and a snorkel this is supposed to be one of the better places for a snorkel club yeah chloe tried on she's she got this little crab snorkel but it's probably yeah a bit big but i got this one too [Music] so [Applause] [Music] so the clarity wasn't too bad there but the um the wind and was quite choppy in that and because we've got a neat tide at the moment so the moon's halfway through a cycle um the tide variation's not as big so it wasn't very deep so um not perfect conditions but it's still a beautiful little spot for a snorkel lots of fish yeah no turtles no no sharks either so um we're going to go out to yardy creek now which we're probably going to be crossing the next couple of days to get to our next campsite but there's a couple of walks and stuff you can do along there [Music] i just finished that hike and i was carrying chloe's barbie chelsea in my pocket and we've got all the way back to the car and chelsea's missing from my pocket so daddy's had to go back and do the whole walk again to find chelsea do you think he found her not oh oh don't worry daddy will find chelsea we found chelsea so this morning we're going for a snorkel at turquoise bay so this is a drift loop you can pop in one spot and the currents will sort of pull you along to the next spot it's sunday the last day of school holidays so everywhere's cleared out a lot but it's still quite busy here because this is one of the better snorkeling spots [Music] [Music] do [Music] so easy yeah it was good day so just across yardy creek the last time i did that was about eight years ago and you had to actually drive through the creek to get across anyway now we're driving the back tracks through an ingloo station um to find our next campsite on the beach south for freud and oh the camp host from where we just stayed it's a bit of a grumpy old fart and they reckon that where we're going to absolutely destroy our car um what do you say we crack the suspension on the van it's the worst road ever the canopy will fall off canopy will fall off i'll give him that i probably will um and he said the 50k will take about five hours so let's see hey here we go [Music] do [Music] so we've got to south lafroy but we cannot find our campground anywhere like the signs are so confusing they're pointing us in the wrong direction and now we're bogged so not ideal let the tyres down as long as they can go cam's shoveling out some sand um and we still don't even know what the campground is we're just sort of gonna try and make our way back to the start and try again still can't find a campsite number 53 we cannot find it so we've parked up at 85 because it's a nice firm base and paul cam's had to get out the car and walk the rest to see if he can find it so he's coming back now what a nightmare can you find it yeah yeah but it's not signposted there's a beach base nothing tells you that yeah can you drive on the beach is it bog yeah the first bit looks pretty good closer to our bay doesn't look great but well we found it it was a nightmare getting here but check out the water so [Music] i know [Music] sorry south lafroy we're at bay 53 uh there's about 70 bays here and there's lots of campsites um up along along this coast win winter bandy which is a really popular one south lafroy is also very popular point billy what else was there norfolk north lafroy there's lots must be hundreds all like oh yeah and then we came we came from cape range as well which has uh i think it's what 14 or 15 maybe campsites along there too um so this is oh yeah on the other side yeah this is uh slightly cheaper here it's only 16 a night um so same price that we paid at 14 mile at wara station um and i think it's slightly cheaper than where we were just now karajong just because there's absolutely no facilities here so there's no toilets you need to byo toilet it must be a chemical toilet um there's no water here there is a dump point so you can dump your waste um but yeah that's basically it there's nothing else fires you can't collect firewood yeah so you can have fires but you can't collect firewood here um you can fish um this section's not a marine sanctuary so uh if you do want to fish here in your book on a site let's have a look and see where the marine sanctuaries are because some of the campsites you can't fish in front of them and then tiff was saying that she'd read that there's quite a good drift along here like there's quite a strong current so you can plonk in the water and then the current will push you north so you can just cruise along snorking or spear fishing or whatever so we'll do a bit of that bit later so yeah we're here for three nights um it was a bit of a pain getting in here it was terribly signposted um the bay itself is quite hard to get into um we had to drive through someone else's camp to get into here but there was no one there anyway so if there was someone there it would have been a little bit more tricky um just the way we wanted to part the van facing onto the beach um we've had to come in a little bit of a weird angle if you did like we've only got a 13-foot van but the thing is our weight we're six ton combined so we're as heavy as pretty much any of the biggest rigs you see on the road and that's what bogs you down i wouldn't want to be too much bigger or heavier getting in here but if you are if you are concerned about that there was a quite a few camps that were sort of back from the june um so you could still still get in here and you could unhitch leave your van there and you could drive out on the beach if you wanna have a fish or a swim but i think if you were really concerned about that a 14 mile at wora station was much more accessible um than this place and same sort of coastal camping yeah and even the road to get into into here from the main highway the thrining glue station um is pretty rough it was really cory get corrugated um we let the tyres down took it slow it wasn't too bad but it was it was bumpy yeah it's not as terrible not as terrible as old mate made out that was telling us about it we were doing like 30k an hour so it was pretty slow going to look after all the gear but it's not the worst road we've ever done i wouldn't let that discourage as long as you're prepared to let your tires down what would you like to say um when i came to my feet in the water over there go for it run run run run run we just use a rat um whatever left those go leftovers go inside like the other night we had um leftover spaghetti mints tonight it's baked beans sauce of choice bit of cupid and smoky barbecue goes good yeah baked beans today bitter sauce cheese on top fold it in half that's it really good though this one's going to be tuna because i ran out of baked beans oh do you want half mine gee you look quite burnt am i yeah yeah we eat a lot of wraps but this is our new obsession quesadilla wraps yum yum what's wrong hmm why are you sad because not moisty no no we found a little pocket of reception and we've turned the cell phone on to boost that reception and it's working sort of on and off but not great but poor old chloe loves youtube what's going on so she's a bit disappointed but she can't watch her youtube shows what is that oh i thought you had a bloody shark or something the way you were carrying on what a good fight jesus never mind honestly you put up a good fight at first i had to run out of the caravan just for that you can also see some dolphins up here playing in the shallows which is probably not a good sign for spear fishing [Music] [Music] tiff's dolphin spot we've been watching them from camp all day seems to be about the only thing that's in here though when i was out there having a bit of a swim with a spare gun i saw a couple of big puffer fish um a shovel nose shark uh three sea turtles two of them had a bit of a swim with me the other one just shot off didn't want any part of it but uh not one fish that was worth taking back with me or trying to um visibility wasn't great which wasn't helping but also there's just not a lot of structure around there that one little section of um weed i was swimming around was like the only structure along the 5ks of this beach here i really need a tinny or a or at least a kayak or something here but unfortunately the gopro battery went flat or the gopro died i don't know what happened but i didn't get any footage of any of the sea turtles all the shovel nose shark that was in the water with me i think i got the puffer fish that was about it anywho i have a bit of a flick of a lure while the sun's going down and then we'll cook some tea over the fire i think some different raps tiff wants you all to know that last night she called dinner is it the first time tiff second time this trip shows cooked in her at home terribly no she's off anyone never probably has froze this cheese and i made it all crumbly apparently you're not supposed to do that tiff says we've been freezing milk cheese and butter just because it um extends the life a little bit yeah it just gets crumbly at all oh [Music] damn good hold on mama [Music]
