[Music] greatness cannot be achieved without obsession if you want to be the best you must be obsessed with it if you want to be the best anchorman you must be you have no choice there's no other way around isn't it no easy way to do it you have to be obsessed with that she can't get away from obsession so I know I know a little bit about getting to the top I also know a little bit about falling from the top in 2005 I had open-heart surgery during the course of that surgery I passed away flatline died whatever you want to call it three times I used to ask myself I just wanted to myself I used to ask the good Lord I could pray why why did this happen after happy to me my house a pretty good person for a year and a half after my surgery 18 months 18 months 6 months I had to spend in a wheelchair six more months I had to sleep sitting down on the floor with my back against the wall because if I laid down I couldn't breathe they had to cut my diaphragm during the surgery whole lot of complication when I was sit there I asked a good Lord why why did I have to go through this why why was I mind you do this to me and it got so bad it was so bad the pain was so bad my hurt was so bad I used to I used to say Lord if I'm gonna have to live like this for the rest of my life then just take me I went to a one of many many many doctor visits that I had at the VA hospital the young doctor approached me came up to me said CT I heard you used to be the champion of the world raised my head up but I had a little little little inkling a pride still left and I say yes I'm the one you heard about I'm the one the dick told stories about obviously tifa's we said what in tho happened to you if that doctor was here today I would thank him because his not comment is what made me determine to no longer ask God why did he do this to me from that day on I want to prove that I was still 16 foot I'm not down I'm not done I'm not through his over when I feel it so so my focus my drive changed and I no longer had to ask myself why [Music] so I tell you today I called when I was preparing to be the world champion I wonder when I want to be whatever I called it my magnificent obsession I was magnificent obsessed with being the best I stand here today and I tell you I have a new magnificent obsession I'll tell you first of all that everything I went through every beating I got every nose that was broken every bone that was broken all the suffering I went through in my recovery to come back all the times I couldn't breathe I rushed tumors it was all it was all every minute of it was worth it it was all worth it was nothing so no longer do I ask see their Lord why I thank him I thank him for choosing me for choosing me to be the one so I am the one that he chose to not die but to stay here and deliver that message to you idea and this notion that you could be anything you want you can accomplish anything you want right we hear that you've heard that from the time you were little boys you hear that now you're already incredibly accomplished you can win an NBA championship MVP of the league you could become president you could become governor you can have you could be in in in in you could be an entertainment you could do Charles and you do Shaq you do that you could do whatever you want to do you guys know that the thing that has worked for me is to remember the hard times so and I'm sure you guys all have your processes and again I'm going to tell you what to work for me so before a big movie comes out before back in the days when I was wrestling with WWE a WrestleMania match anything big that would happen I would always take a moment and I just remind myself all right I was evicted when I was 14 we were kicked off the island we couldn't live in Hawaii had no place to live and then when I moved to Nashville has arrested multiple times by the time I was 16 years old I got remember that if I were playing on this team which might you know my skills are what's that term all the shit's so I never play but before I lace up before I get on the court before I playing these big games before I go to the Staples Center where history says those are those are historic we'll all stare at the Staples Center I would remember that and it allows me then to be present in the moment and understand holy [ __ ] that's the stuff I have around me right now this is I dreamed of when I was a kid I am here I played for University of Miami played great teams Warren Sapp Ray Lewis they were my teammates they were ballin Warren Sapp was playing tight end at that time I was starting defensive tackle yeah they moved him over to D line and he looked at me he's like yo do I'm gonna take your spot I said you ain't taking my father's mind cuz I'm gonna take your spot we battled and he took my spot they could imagine how that [ __ ] with me cuz there goes my opportunity he went in switch to defensive tackle lit the world on fire well what that did it crushed me to crush my dreams I had a piss-poor senior year zero production no NFL no combine invite nothing finally went to the CFL Calgary Stampeders making $250 a week Canadian Canadian I had to send that [ __ ] home to my to my wife at that time I had no money so I remember that I got cut from Canada I had 7 bucks in my pocket and I always tell that story so now my production company's 7 bucks advertising agency 7 bucks everything is 7 bucks so always remember that what helps me is to keep the hard times in the front of my line I used to walk into a competition and I would say I am the one that belongs to me because not one of you can I will me you may have been born with more genetic powers than I have but you can now out determine me you came out really you came out won't me you came out work me you can't out desire me this top spot this number one that's mine [Music] every time I go to the doctor they tell me what I sit and be doing and what I should be doing and what I won't do and what I can't do and I politely go I can do it alone and i'ma do that until they throw dirt on top of me this is my life and I choose to live it the way I want with it's impossible I've heard that so many times it's just impossible can't be done anytime that you give your best effort that you give everything that you possibly can give there is satisfaction in knowing that I did my absolute best I did all I could do there's victory in that there's satisfaction have you ever went out for something and try to do something and when you've got home quietly in your room you know that you had that much more that you could have gave but you didn't want to look ugly in the face cuz your girlfriend was looking or you know boyfriend was looking you didn't want to frown up like that and look embarrass yourself so I helped a little bit then you know then your heart you did not give everything that you had and you don't know if nobody else know you know I could've done a little better I could have tried a little harder if I had I promise you babe you would have been satisfied with your effort effort is so important it is so important the effort that you until my last competition I was unsuccessful in my attempt but I consider it my greatest competition yct you didn't get it because the day before that competition my doctor looked me in the face and he said if you go out there and you try to benchpress seven hundred and five pounds it's go kid your bat was too weak it'll be too much of a strain it would explode right there on the stage and you won't die from all the people that I doubt alive for this I'd be buggered my life to this this is the reason for my existence this is why I am here and you asking me if I am going to compete he leads me like I was crazy I'm going in right here of course of course if if I do happen to die on that stage tomorrow then you know what so beat so beat I guess is why he called me crazy [Music] you
