you and please help me welcome you and wen to the podium i'm going to be honest when i started high school i wasn't too stoked to be here here's school new people just the type of place that would make someone like me really anxious i started out in collegiate and i'd like to think it was a good setup for my first year being in a smaller cohort and having supportive teachers but in my second year i felt like it was too small and i wasn't getting to know the real jhs and so i spent some time after school roaming the halls making small interactions with those that were part of the everyday high school students teachers custodians after that year i left the academy and what i found out here was something i couldn't even begin to describe as a dhs student i found that our student body is filled with so many exciting individuals each with great passions and interests some people are calm some chaotic but i think that variety is something i've gone to appreciate and all the people that i've seen and or talked to as i stand here today among our graduating class i recognize many of you from the halls and from my own classes and i'm related to say that i'm proud of each and every one of us for making it to this milestone whether it be that you barely made it with that rounded 69.5 or all a's or b's you're here and that's what matters learned in my time here that some things don't turn out how you want them to and that's perfectly okay this graduation only marks the beginning of a long road whether you decide on a two-year a four-year the military a gap year or to dive straight into the workforce i believe that all of us will be all right no matter where we go or what we do in life i also learned that life is all about doing things and focusing on what you need to do and not being bothered by what other people since it's your life to leave with that said i'd like to take the rest of my time to point out and thank the people that make this ending so bittersweet to mr dasher mr horton and mr apple thank you for after school talks and providing support and company mr prince for still believing in me and holding me hostage for physics 2 even though i flew up my physics 1 exam thank you to mr kane and miss lee for being there even when i had that odd phase where i avoided you out of fear for some reason mr rogic for the codes you put outside your door and your fun dod sessions thank you to ms hinson who was also a great supporter of me and allowed me to help her run my class when our teacher did midway and a huge thank you to all my classmates from that class mrs epps junior year because you were all incredibly kind welcoming and ultimately made my transition into the main school go better than i expected and though i think it might be odd to point out those that aren't at the school anymore i'd like to acknowledge and thank mr marcus the custodian for letting me roam the halls and encouraging me on days where i didn't feel like roaming and mr longoria for teaching spanish that i sadly can't recall after not having a spanish class for two years now i know it's in my brain somewhere and of course thank you to counselors miss prince and miss mckenzie and attorney's clerk ms beltran for doing your jobs but in a way that i felt needed to be pointed out lastly to any other student teacher or staff member that i've ever interacted with even if it was in passing i'm glad to have noticed you because you're all part of what made my overall high school experience so great finally to the graduating class i'd like you to all to carry with you the reminder that things will be okay no matter what happens and that effort plays a big part in life if things aren't going well now they will soon because it's not about how you start it's there are little to no words to express how proud i am to be part of a part of the 2021 graduating class for four years i have observed the peers around me maintain their academic gpas and also work part in full-time jobs be involved in extracurricular activities and consistently support the people close to them these are some of the hardest working individuals i have ever and probably will ever have the pleasure of knowing as the moment approaches for us to walk across the stage consider the determination it took for us to come to this point there are so many stories i could share about the perseverance i witnessed throughout the years but a seemingly small one stands out among the rest i remember once after a cross-country meet when we were eating at a restaurant as we were eating our food one of my teammates whipped out a massive spanish textbook and plopped it right on the table we asked her what she was doing she looked up and stated i have a test when we get back and i want to know i gave it everything i had and then went back to her studies there are so many moments like these through the years where my classmates have had to sacrifice in order to pursue their goals however even with sacrifice and perseverance no one ever accomplishes anything alone i want to take a moment to thank teachers and administrators for their commitment to making sure that we each achieved success not only did they teach us how to annotate and solve quadratic equations but also allowed us to comprehend the value of mistakes and how to effectively communicate with others another group that deserves some recognition are the families of each student with every success there is usually a parent or guardian driving to school events an older sibling aiding in algebra homework or a younger sibling watching from the stands hoping to one day be like their older brother or sister my grandparents sid and tommy harper used to drive two and a half hours every week to attend my cross-country meets my grandfather drove that same route to be here today but my grandmother has become very sick in the past few months and was not able to attend tonight i urge you to not take the individuals that love and support you for granted cherish and love them while you have the opportunity do not allow these precious years to slip through your fingers before i close i think it's very important to reflect on the beauty of the of this moment in our lives in my college english class we had to read the tempest by william shakespeare in this play one quote that always stood out to me was where of what's past is prologue what's to come is yours in mind even though the past is already written the future is ours to control the prologue of our stories is only the beginning the rest of your lives are blank pages just waiting to be written you have your entire life in front of you not very many people on this earth can say that so go fourth class of 2021 work towards your goals make mistakes and be who you were meant to be but through all this never forget the lessons you learned as you walk the halls of duncanville high school i'll miss you dearly and thank you all so much and
