dubai is the talk of the town when it comes to creative constructions but the quest for achieving more and more has ended up with useless mega projects is it true that dubai spent billions of dollars on some projects which are destined to be a failure and useless in the end would you not like to learn about these don't worry we've got you covered in this we bring you the top useless mega projects that dubai has undertaken number one maidan 1 abandoned city this is said to be useless not because its developer has gone bankrupt he was in debt of four billion dollars he didn't have sufficient money left to lead the project into the completion stage maidan 1 was an underconstruction project in dubai which was very promising and awaited it is set to include residential commercial and entertaining attractions with top standards well by now you can see the same old dubai stuff what difference does this project bring to the table and the real question is is it worth the number of resources let's find out this stunning project will include maidan 1 tower which is among the new residential buildings in dubai besides it's home to the most anticipated destination made on one mall which will have the longest ski slope in the world you will also relish watching the longest dancing fountain in the world there as its height reaches 380 meters there will be other notable attractions too once it opens apart from the unrealistic attractions it has this seems to be having everything a normal city would have just the difference is that this is much larger than any normal city would be divided into various phases the project as a whole is called district one just after six years into inception the troubles started it fell apart before it even actually began to be honest every project in dubai is massive and they seem to always be the world's best in some way or the other so i wouldn't be surprised if this arose into account that i'm aware of this is that it's not just another example of these people number two jabalali village this is yet another useless project undertaken and without proper planning it had to face the same fate of abandonment jebel ali village built outside dubai in 1977 was a settlement of about 300 villas for expatriates along with juice a club a park medical clinics and a desalination water plant it didn't have its supermarket requiring residents to make a long hot drive without air conditioning all the way to dubai to purchase supplies back when abu dhabi road was a single lane unlit carriageway used by camels as well as vehicles by 2011 the once treasured community was entirely abandoned one of the artificial islands built off the coast of dubai was named in its honor but that project has been put on hold leading to even more abandonment with the jebel ali name the monolithic structures as you can see here were built as part of a flyover going to jebel ali palm island but as construction was halted they've just been left like this looking like a row of ancient ruins but as with many other projects in dubai they're in transition the villages being rebuilt and it might be useful is what people say number three nakheel tower dubai itself and the surrounding areas often have large tracts of land that look like wastelands of sand and abandoned construction equipment thanks to countless projects that are started and then put on hold for financial reasons if you look at any point you would be shocked to see there are thousands of such sites in various stages of progress and while some eventually pick back up and are completed others stay like this for years or are eventually scrapped but one of the projects which were abandoned and were rendered useless is the naphill tower nakil tower as you can see was meant to be the centerpiece of dubai's famous man-made balm islands and the site had been cleared and leveled before the project was cancelled in 2009 another project the burjal alam suffered a similar fate with trucks finally bringing in loads of sound to refill areas that had been excavated after developers decided not to go forward with a 108-storey tower number four the arabian canal there's a man-made accidental lake in dubai right now and it was meant to be a much larger project the 75 kilometers arabian canal was to go around the al-maktpum international airport from the dubai marina before heading back out to palm jebel ali unfortunately it was put on hold in 2009 and has been sitting in limbo ever since it would have been able to support 40 meter long yachts and would have cost 11 billion dollars for now the section that has been excavated act as an accidental oasis for local wildlife number five pentaminium dubai is really fond of massive skyscrapers and this was meant to be one of them pentominium if it were to be completed would have been the tallest residential building in the world and the second tallest of dubai skyscrapers construction started in 2009 22 floors were put up and in 2011 the project was abruptly stopped why the developer had fallen behind on its massive loans there has not been any further work on the site this has been useless and a loss of a hefty amount number 7 burjal alam said to be built in dubai's business bay area the 180 story skyscraper was supposed to be finished in 2009. construction started in 2006 as you can see here but repeated payment delays stalled work on the tower in 2009. all that had been built were the pilings this project another victim of the financial crisis was officially canned in 2013 and the foundation filled in the site of what was meant to be one of the world's tallest buildings is now an empty lot number eight man-made islands the bays shakes have claimed it is the eighth wonder of the world and seen from space the tree-shaped sand and rock formations of the palm jumeirah look exactly like that but why is this eighth wonder which cost a minimum of 12 billion dollars often referred to as a useless mega project let's dive deep into this after the hype about david beckham buying a mansion here and the novelty of living four miles out to sea has faded that claim is starting to look shaky it seems there is a little trouble in paradise four thousand farm pioneers have moved in and are getting the grips with life in the sweltering arabian gulf they are not liking it there and we can tell this by their protests these are just sinking and the horror is that even the developer is not ready to face and accept the truth while we have every proof and evidence they are gradually sinking and the surroundings will get disrupted in 2001 there was nothing off the coast of dubai but warm shallow gulf water then nahil a local real estate conglomerate dredged 3 billion cubic feet of sand from the sea floor and used gps precision to shape it into a 17 fronted palm tree seven million tons of mountain rock was piled around the island to form a crescent-shaped back water seven miles long designed to protect the newborn island from waves and storms even the smallest island took a decade to complete construction on bamjumera the first and smallest of the three projected palm islands stretched years longer than anticipated but today its trunk is a broad expanse of malls and luxury hotels the 17 fronts are lined with mech mansions packed closer together than buyers were left to believe likely due to rising costs on the project a six-lane undersea tunnel connects the island to the beaches on the crescent while the middle east's first monorail runs the length of the island in a shocking twist building giant sand islands can change an ecosystem environmentalists have criticized many dubai mega projects but perhaps none more so than the palm islands the massive dredging required to build the island has drastically changed the wave temperature and erosion patterns in the persian gulf and a whole square mile of coral was killed developers dropped two american fighter jets on the sea floor to create new reefs and claim that palm jumeirah's break water will continue to bring more marine life to the area but the world wildlife fund still insists that the uae is five times more unsustainable than any other country on earth nakiel projected that the first bomb would hold 120 000 residents but it's home to about half that number and not all the islanders are happy about the new artificial paradise the island's weird shape has led to stagnant water algae and mosquitoes the two larger palm shaped buildings are still not complete due to falling real estate values in dubai as sheikh muhammad himself once wrote take wisdom from the wise it takes a man of vision to write on water not everyone who rides a horse is a jockey great men rise to greater challenges in fact this arabic perm will be spelt out in miles of twisting broad walks surrounding the second palm island palm jabal ali if it's ever finished the world at risk of sinking this is the main reason behind islands being linked still with the world in 2010 the marine company penguin marine wanted that this group of archipelagos was sinking back into the sea the company responsible for providing logistics and transport services to the islands regularly took measurements for safety purposes the main reason is that the sand extracted from the seabed to build the 300 archipelagos was gradually returning to its place of origin a photograph taken from the international space station in february 2010 showed evidence that indeed the waters of the persian gulf were rising and the islands were starting to disappear this also led to the channels between the islands becoming obstructed nakheel the project developer denied all these allegations and ended up winning the trial against penguin marine which wanted to cancel its contract according to information from nasa palm jumeirah was also sinking at a rate of five millimeters per year known for its extravagance and disdain for rational limits dubai never shies away from incredibly ambitious architectural projects but when they fail as they often do the result is a whole lot of sandy half excavated construction sites but this hub of vast oil and gas fortunes is in a state of constant change with a rapidly changing landscape that can transform from a swath of desert to a strip of glittering skyscrapers in what seems like no time at all all of these useless mega projects cost to buy a fortune the man-made islands cost the city a tear-jerking 12 billion dollars for a fact they could have built 9 burj khalifas or 13 virgil arabs or 225 replicas of the dubai frame with the same amount and the dark side of dubai is not a secret anymore the workers are being exploited and no proper amenities are provided to them one side of dubai is just minded wrecking artificial beauty and wonders while the other side is rotten streets and sick people horrifying all of its oil reserves that are bringing loads of cash won't last forever the realization of this has struck the emirates hard but to go into the tourism industry this hard is not advisable that's all for this video thanks for watching if
