In the 80s, this was a regular song on certain radio stations - those that played Schlager music.

At youth club parties in the 90s, it was a staple once everybody was drunk enough. It still is a staple in beer tents.

And apparently (so I saw in a TV report), it is, or was some years ago, popular in Moscow clubs as a party hit too, presumably because most Russians can't understand the lyrics with their ridiculous stereotyping.
