hello if you a super GT here or Alex our bond confirmed now at McLaren obviously okay you're pretty sorry the thumb now on the title I'm here at the Dunsfold aerodrome otherwise known as the Top Gear test track you've probably seen on TV your pulley played on a game but I'm here for real I'm gonna be driving a mclaren 570s GT for car around the track I'm gonna have two sessions with a professional instructor unfortunately not the snick I'm here as part of the McLaren Shadow competition I'm not competing myself but I'm just here luckily just to be part of it and just experience the event and it's happening this Saturday at 7 p.m. have a look for it on their channel which is linked in the description I'm a little bit nervous but more in a competitive sense because I really just want to set the quickest possible lap I can I see every opportunity in a car as an audition and then in some way so even though I've only many be here for fun I really do want to go out there and set the quick as possible that's on my can but we'll see we'll see oh it goes hopefully I don't bend myself get our 4md into the Shadow Realm hopefully that doesn't happen but the main thing is just to go out have fun and just enjoy the experience nervous Steve and Charlie - oh yeah okay yes slide yourself in yeah that there is great yeah there isn't much room in here is there I always think strapping ins like speed dating as well it's the fastest way to get to know someone okay can you hear me that I can hello perfect fairly straightforward very straightforward track of a sink yeah it's an airfield type circuit rather than our natural kind of racetrack that we use so it's just picking up references is really key for what you're doing yeah understanding the edge of the circuit where to look at your vision looking nice and early into the corner and so on he's they're probably my biggest bit of advice so yeah just put your foot on the brake now if you can yep yeah sorry just just keep in mind now we're gonna [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay so coming out of the final corner and we're talking through these last two laps of this stim hope you've enjoyed the videos so far if I just give you some straight up engine noise and you've just about here some of the shaft to myself how Drive so we are sort of connected up with this intercom systems that the helmets additives headphones or built in so we talk to each other and hear each other quite easily over the sound of the engine and I felt really comfortable the car it felt really nice to be in the car it's very cozy you might seem that strapping in procedure there's more mushrooms and move about and to be honest that's kind of how you want it and I felt really at home I didn't really feel overwhelmed at all and not certainly by the acceleration rating but is Ward the brains the brakes are really very potent that you really do stop very quickly in this in this machine that's the one thing I was really trying to get used I've never experienced and braking force like were you have in this guy absolutely unreal so through the follow-through through the left-hander onto the runway I mean towards the second-to-last what really difficult corner that's because we see there's a code of the game at first the only reference you have is really difficult to get out of it right great wide entry to a very narrow circuit pardon circuit to the final corner using the entry is the concrete on the inside I'm gonna set a 17-point to so going a little bit quicker each lap here down from a 19 on the last lap down to a 71 I'm gonna go for one more lap here try to beat it breaking a straight line towards the first border going out deep and it came to cutting back the following the line through through the first corner over to the left early into Chicago on the brakes in a straight line down to second gear trying to beat that like the right hand side which just appears after the tire wall and then now that caught on the power zone you can be over to the right hand side for the Hammerhead corner we have to be brave the brakes I was definitely leaving some room to brake a little bit later breakage before thee the wide line that goes across the circuit butters break a little bit later now we'll try and maybe in the second session the massive bump you might have seen a couple of moments through that it's a huge bump half through hammerhead it really doesn't sell the car so be really careful through there just to be smooth on the power coming into here a little bit left using the loss of the entry barriers on the right hand side the red and white striped at so through here very close to the tyre wall not quite enough the left-hand side of the track so you can definitely maybe laughter that into the second-to-last corner just nailing that one plenty of concrete on the inside and perhaps could have carried a little bit more speed through and through the last more train third gear this time around was the lights do a 5150 so that was my first ever session in the McLaren GT for our first episode in a proper race car of any kind really and it was absolutely brilliant really good fun the car really gives you confidence it really lets you just attack the attempted important though having said that we're trying to be quite smooth so I think the the lap times good they came down quite progressively and to be honest I was really happy with how that one went [Music] - outside see that three seconds a lap quicker if you don't [Music] oh good job I went like I did I won 2826 in a 1917 and the 15 115 again very good I think it's a bit scary their tires so yeah and going through the left hand after the follow-through they're afraid of [Applause] [Music] something on the first guy I think he just been there but it just got a 114 point one so I think that's a good benchmark try and be but we'll see okay we are pulling away for our second stint here now the first thing you might notice the steering position or the steering wheel position is a little bit different so my fov setting a little bit off for this one if you put on fullscreen it might be a little bit easier to see beyond the wheel out of the window but yeah the the angle isn't quite ideal for this we're trying to get the GoPro footage it's either GoPro on the right-hand side of the window there were two GoPros in week I lock it out my own one on the hell there so gonna try and get that for a later date and maybe make a separate video for that but for now you gotta make do with with this footage you still just about see out the window see just enough you see the skid box there through that cornice that's where bono bin did he was trying to go flat out through that left-hander it's not quite possible according to him and well that's kind of proof that you're gonna pay the price if you try to go there too fast so I'm gonna I'm gonna leave you with the remainder of the stim we're gonna come around now just to start off first flying that I'm gonna try to beat of course what we did in the earlier stint which is a fifth one fifteen point four nine slightly different conditions and the moment we are in a different car you still at McLaren GT for car of course is still the same a spec machine but a different driver so a different instructor different car and slightly different conditions let's see what we can do in this second second stint [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right smell that I'll be good for the video [Music] [Music] [Music] did the same that time because in the earlier system all the other guys doing 1214 Wow that'd be gay all right thanks very much my boys I can clearly bend it do you see me spin out a graceful way of doing this then we're a bit narrow kind of Apex really terrible turning then the grass was pointed to us so we've added the lock and then had to live it just with almost thing my speedin scary looks amazing - carry on good fun it's good loving smooth and you made some nice adjustments down here yeah I was a bit I didn't know exactly where to brake but there's that line going across isn't there and you can go but good fun enjoyed it a minute I wanted to do a 14 but just on the braking and yes yeah we were together in the morning yeah first room one thing I said to Duncan actually we said about your lap time in the first room yeah I said it was really really impressive straightaway and Duncan says I'm kind of joke to said that he feel quick and I said the good thing was it didn't because you're nice and smooth and you did it in the right way you drove how this car needs driving and how we would like someone to drive so from my point of view in the first room your home technique was really good you have good exits smooth not trying to push too much on the entry and obviously you were breaking late but you were concentrating on all the right things I've really good technique and obviously that leads to the lap time move about so from the first run for my point of view is I'm thinking this will be interesting to see a snake does this because we are gonna run out around here but that that that's a mistake that and many many drivers have made and the can't fault the way that you drive in terms of the smoothness application on the brake you've really nice nice firm hits but not too aggressive that it makes everything unsettled you're bleeding off the breakers nice and then I did give you some pointers to change you did you didn't make those changes just sometimes a one-time year is a bit too much I would have liked obscene way of that time wasn't that last yeah because I think you would have crept into the four teens yes I think partly because I've commented with Charlie this more than you're out there you could see your car was so much more stable and balanced especially around this partner than anyone elses and what you find is when you're at the learning stage that you're at the moment is your confidence and your ability don't increase at the same rate so you get confident but your ability still lacks behind and then then you've overdrive yeah so you've kind of for me is sometimes you're backing off by 10% and just letting your natural car control do the work up here and then just pushing out on -
