hey guys welcome back for another 55 video for the rocky mountain race week 1.0 series this is video two of three this one was a lot of fun because we got to drive through the rocky mountains and our brand new pretty much untested car there was some really beautiful scenes and it was actually a lot of fun to cruise through real fast through the mountains so anyways let's check that out get started right now so [Music] so [Music] so day whatever it is first drive day for us we don't have to drive it's not a necessity but i feel like that's going to be the fun part for us because because we deserve to have some fun at this point it's been a lot of work it's been a lot of hard work so uh which is anticipated but anyways so there was a slight wiring issue thank you alex actually i don't know who did it um the starter or last night when we went to leave the restaurant we were really tired and when i thought it was a bad starter it actually wasn't a bad starter um i had said something about the master and dad's like he's tired he's like no i didn't turn the master off i was like okay and then he was like went and looked at night he's like turn on the headlights headlights worked and so you know obviously if your master disconnect is turned off it shouldn't shouldn't have anything on and so dad's like that's why it didn't cross his mind and he's like wait i did turn it off so he went and turned it back on car started well the problem with that is now our master disconnect is ineffective essentially so there was a wiring and i haven't talked to him yet i'm not sure what it is he was tracing it down this morning so we'll see so we're fighting new car issues the problem that we're gonna have right now is we just have oil just pumping out the turbos uh we've got the vacuum pump hooked up in an attempt to try to pull it away but we've already after five miles got oil in the catch can so it's just it's gonna be interesting to see if it's even possible as of right now it's not looking like we're gonna even be able to drive it because uh there's just so much oil we'll see do you think if you hook the vacuum pump up fully where there was no leak it would be a potential to jesus are you asking me yeah it would pump so much vacuum that this bottle would fill up really quick this bottle doesn't have a top on it do we have a water bottle with a lid i dropped my lid in the car it's in there somewhere because what i drain out of here i need to put a lid on so we can do you think that we might have um like with the restrictors we should try it without restrictors and vacuum pump because this oil is coming from vacuum pump now what i think is that we don't there's no point in taking the restrictors out that's not ever going to make it better i think it needs the restrictors but i think that you might buy it without the vacuum that's what i'm asking since we've got the smaller restrictor yeah take the vacuum pump off and give that a try yeah that's we'll just have to see how much it burns our eyes as a test but in whatever two or three miles that's what's coming out of the vacuum that's because of pump so we did that and attempt to divert oil so to say or keep it from coming out of the turbo so basically what we're going to try now is to um run no vacuum pump now that we've got a smaller restrictor and cross our fingers it's just dripping see it dripping right there yeah we can live with a little okay i have to stop and note a couple things real quick because i didn't know him at this point i guess i was tired one don't run restrictors that's like not the way to do it um not that that's the proper way and if you talked to precision they would definitely say that is not the way to do it we were running them because we were desperate to make it through the week so we were just doing that as a temporary solution so that's not the plan like don't don't think that that was a permanent fix that was just to get us by um and then second of all it wasn't any kind of issue which you'll see later that was actually a turbo issue it was actually a drain issue so i just wanted to highlight that in case you didn't make it all the way through or didn't see it it was nobody's fault it was just a planning issue you'll see what i'm talking about but that's noted my disclaimers are out of the way all right blaine let's go see what happened well we don't have the motor here but we melt number eight melting number eight you guys pulled an all-nighter didn't you yeah two hours of sleep but you guys got a brand new motor yeah swapped it it's a 6-2 ls3 i think what they're doing so the goal at this point is to just make it through the week huh yeah finish just do it okay i like it so you're gonna go get a nap i got a 180 so blaine if you don't know is the crew chief for his dad's car but if i come out around a junior dragster driver and tired you're so tired i'm gonna have to bug you when you're more awake so our situation here is this side is not dripping as bad as this side after a little discovery and research this this setup is not ideal right now so right now and it was just time limit so we have a dash 10 which was in the nova 10 fed down through here into the front 180 to the back or to the front of the motor so ideally we would go bam bam gravity feed straight down into the pan but you guys know we were on a stupid tight time schedule so what we're going to do to help with gravity feed after talking with precision is we're going to have to keep them we're going to keep the 180s we're going to tip the 180 down just to get a little bit more um gravity this one was tipped down more and it's not dripping this one was flat and it is dripping so we're going to go up to the motion raceworks trailer up there they've got some hose some fittings and we're going to give it a try why are we doing this we're not even on race week because because because race cars i like it i like it okay all right i'm going up there [Music] so it's a half mile after [Music] [Music] there will be three small roundabouts [Music] so you may want to make it around the roundabout [Music] [Music] [Music] right there [Music] jake our little tuning experience back there where we worked on the turbo drains has caused it to run really rough so going around his roundabout she's having to play with the throttle a lot so she said we're not gonna fight this she's gonna pull over and work on the tune just a little bit while we're not in traffic so once a more fuel on acceleration like up there at rpm when we're trying to accelerate out of it it wants to be leaned out down low fattened up up high so we're just going to add just do what you're going to do yeah it added like 20 percent we're not going to worry about the smell it smells so rich but all of them always do yeah they do and the thing is and that may not be an issue because they always do and that's right there by our nose we're just going to be brain dead when we get there we're brain dead and we already are we're on this trip right now anybody that does this is brain dead [Music] [Applause] all right talked about it for sitting outside the road it's pretty out here it's nice isn't it it is it's cool it's lots of scenery it's 55 it's actually doing pretty good for being fresh out of the box pretty good for 100 miles on it pretty good you take a car brand new car and throw it into this and it does this well in a hundred miles we've got at least a half a tank of gas you know what's funny is i was thinking i'm like we don't even have to do this this is dumb why are we doing this and then i'm like that's what we do this is why it is the funny part if it wasn't for that scenery right there we'd be doing it in tulsa or something yup what's the point yup this is cool so and the car just looks good i'm gonna say that about 50 times it had a it had a couple little issues but we got them fixed this morning and i think it is fixed so that's a big relief i mean if those turbos weren't going to work that's a big deal to change the angle on those turbos yeah that's not that's like re-re-plumbing everything it seems like it's going to work looks like it's just an oil drain back routing thing which is a simple simple thing we're splitting hairs literally if the line was at this thing when we put it at this angle it might not work and it might work yep so we've got that fit anyways here's the scenery it is beautiful we got to find mom and adrian but we're about to hit the road seriously just so pretty the coolest part about this race week is because i was out we had a little more time hey come here come here mika so my child puppy gets to come she's having a great time good girl why don't you come over here or do what you want so the car is driving so good the only problem with it is that it puts me to sleep it's easy to drive come on you goober i was just saying that my only problem with this car is that it's too easy to drive it's putting me to sleep it's literally i've dozed a couple times i know i have pictures of water yeah it's funny [Music] there goes everybody oh one more so we're stopping to get some food um they open in about 30 minutes but as we're pulling up dad said pull right there pull right there look what it looks like you guys remember the scene where there's 55 hey i was asking you to talk for mine oh i said saying as we were pulling up you're like pull right there pull right there do you have that picture up i can get that picture up it's kind of hard to see out here but if anybody knows the movie like we do if you can see right here there's a there's a we're at a restaurant right there yeah mary's cafe the 55 is parked right in front of that peak we'll look right in front of that so it's eerily simple i'm crazy and this is cousins pub because mary's cafe huh so yeah this was not on purpose oh i'm about dead on my phone we're gonna follow you and the camera car i'm gonna follow you guys i'm tired of that i don't like leading it distracts me why do i have to we're not incompetent we have to have we have to be the lead car for their video for these guys but not your mom no i'm i'm in the back because i pull up the bag all right do you know where to go or do i know mom remind me so i go to 34. you're going to go to your turn right out of here believe we can go down to 36 you know where we turned earlier and then 36 he runs around and goes into 34. we got to get on 34 to go just put in the damn store in loveland the damn store is 32 minutes yeah the tahoe has got the path so there there the tahoe is going to lead and then with his camera car he's following the tahoe you follow the camera car you got it cause he's gonna get shots at you we'll follow you i like it there you don't have to leave anymore i need i need a minute uh making seconds tom lapson here yeah hopefully that's time lapse can you verify out the window sorry the shot's too good i just need it to get out let's drop bad swamps here blinkers [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh all over here [Music] okay so this has been fun we actually came through the mountains took our time and happened to run into project prime this was fun this was fun um been doing lots of driving back and forth we actually just went back into the mountains to do some drone shots and things like that so we're taking time today we're just we're not in competition we're enjoying our drive hanging out with people anyways we are at our checkpoint which is the damn store which is not open i was hoping it was because i could really use a coke right now even though we have headsets in the car my voice is still going hoarse i guess because i can't hear myself talk so i yell over anyways so we are uh we're moving we're gonna make it it's a lot of fun the car handles really well we were literally so we were following behind project prime they're going to get right on the bumper that car has no brake well i mean it has brakes the brakes it has to get the master cylinder is undersized so it's like one pump fully to the floor two pumps you kind of you get the brakes so anyways it's just like two foot the whole time we got it up there but uh it handles really well for being what it is so i'm i'm happy with this car so good shake down in the mountains some people were like why would you shake it down in the mountains well good question but why not looks like that's bumped up a little all right we are out here at a gas stop because the sign right there said 60 miles until gas so we pulled in but the 55 is doing amazing so uh cooling wise i am super impressed um all day going through the mountains we never saw over 180 on the transmission um we were like running 160-ish or less on engine temp so that's just real real nice okay we drove all but like an hour and a half out and the valve train is really noisy like really noisy and it's so late and it's so hot it would take forever to cool it down to run the valves we're just gonna put it in the trailer probably deal with it tomorrow so we don't hurt it so we might actually get a pass out of it okay day three of working out race week for us it is the second to last day we're currently in carney nebraska as you saw in the last video we did put the car in the trailer so we could check the valves and everything once we got here because we were so tired last night so anyways getting to pull it out work on it right here uh in the hotel parking lot check everything out make sure it's all good to go and then we will be making a cab today we headed to the track in a little bit uh we slept in we're tired so we gotta do that get some lunch and then head to the track okay so this is about how this week goes see the driveway we're so close but we're so far away so working on a little bit of a methanol tune before we head to the track because it's just so busy there and might as well get some stuff done here because we actually had a bunch of hours at the hotel um while we waited on the track to open opened at three it's real hot so you know i make fast till he's five so anyways brand new fuel system uh we've got the 20 gallon a minute air motive pump down here with the uh aeromotive intake pumps in the rear for the street tanks so got a couple switch ball switch valves here from watermen also aeromotive but having an issue right now with the prime on the race tank so uh we actually are right here to test the put it on trans brake and test get it spooled to work on spooling it um i can't get it to start so dad was having to prime it with carb cleaner but anyway the problem seems to be getting worse thinking now maybe there's a filter what's your thoughts well it seems to be somewhat plugged up but i can't believe it's plugged up enough to keep it from starting so last night as we were driving in it actually kind of started popping a little the race tank and the street tank go through the same filter hoping maybe the the the filters plumbed up dad came up with the this idea as a possible issue could you explain that real quick since they both go through the same filter you know it's a brand new system so like the guy from aeromotive just said you know the new system's the dirtiest system there is because all your hose cuttings and you know any crap that you've got in the system hasn't been filtered out yet so it's a good chance that it's the debris has worked its way into this filter but anyways what i was talking about more is when he opened the methanol tank he saw a fuel bubbling back into the tank from the suction side which gave him an idea that could potentially be a filter so i'm going to take this filter out if i can get this to open up and it's tight i don't have a vise here so i probably need to go find some wrenches to do this filter so that filter looks kind of messed up yes squeeze the look at how it squeezed it around there how could it do that it's collapsing it in though from fuel pressure they've got a spring in there to keep it from just folding in on it right but it's going in and hitting that spring i suppose what i'm seeing here is where it's trying to wrap around the spring see how you can see every coil of the spring so it's just it's plugged up so chances are it's it's you know cuttings from cutting the hose and putting the hose ends on and that's like to say the dirtiest fuel system is a brand new one i i blow through those hoses before i put the ends on but inside there is sticky you know i guess like you know rubber sticky and some of that stuff sticks in so i bet you that's the cuttings off of the off of the cut off wheel i use a cut off wheel just blew through it definitely eyeballs are going to pop out of your head okay let's find a filter and put it together and run yeah where's that filter this is a disaster in here i don't know it's in you know it's in a box i just want to note real quick that this filter is no longer what we're using this is one from red horse which is a super nice filter there was nothing wrong with the filter there was nothing wrong with the element other than the fact that our system was dirty so that's not the reason why but i wanted to know for anybody who might be watching for a technical side we have a much much larger filter from aeromotive now that's a 20 gallon a minute pump so you need a lot of flow so we just needed a way bigger filter than what we had after talking to aeromotive during that call that we were discussing they're like you need to go to a much bigger filter so anyways um if you're watching for a technical side we did um change filters much bigger you'll see it on the car later but um as for the filter that was on it also a super nice piece if you are not running a 20 gallon a minute pump and you want to check out red horse check them out because they do have a nice filter so here is the one that is dirty here is a new one this stuff right there is just what is that this literally has to be the debris out of the inside of the hose it's very fine isn't it it's just it's almost like a rubber feeling so because it's you know it's a 10 micron filter it won't let anything through so whatever's in that hose there you see i just scraped it out of there so hopefully everything is in the hoses is now in this filter and we're going to put a new filter that was much easier temporarily that's how this whole week is temporary okay so let me update you guys today it's been one of those days but we still have tomorrow to to uh redeem ourselves so after the fuel filter was clogged up we found out after processing elimination i added fuel i did feel away i added timing i took time away et cetera et cetera et cetera et cetera nothing was responsive so i thought it's gotta be injectors the injectors have to be dirty so i switched over to injector set two turned off the injector set one injector set one was dirty so i had just crapped and i feel the car was way too fat once i got to injector set two totally changed that so anyways i think we're gonna get a decent tune for spooling in it right now and then jake just asked me if we could come out to the track so we'll see um if we can get out there for that so that's z plan right now and then we'll make a last one so we're gonna make it out here just in time to see lisa make a pass jake has been busting it for jay all week long ran out here to see if there was anything you could do shifting issues but they should get one more pass one more is there anything changed potential that might be fixed he moved the maximum rpm down in the transmission configuration from i think i had a 6700 he moved it down to 61. i'm trying to shift around six so okay let's see what see what it does [Music] so all right it's been a long another long day it's currently like one o'clock we were gonna go to dinner just to cap it off but dinner every restaurant in carney nebraska is close they close at one or midnight or sooner so we've got a nice bag of mcdonald's french fries i'm gonna have a pow-wow in the hotel lobby and then get up and you know what i hope tomorrow night at this time i can say i ran a good pass on the 55 and then it will all be a good day to be determined okay and that is it for this video i hope you guys enjoyed it this one was a fun
