Yeah, basically you need to be going as fast as possible at all times now and also get lucky. We did not have the latter. We got called in at least a few times on all the runs. With radar detectors/laser jammers and 100% spotter coverage you can be pretty decently positive that you are going to be aware of all normal highway patrols. So worst case scenario is some abnormal activity where someone is out looking for you and getting on the highway between you and your spotter and then waiting without radar on.
Obviously you try to mitigate getting called in as much as possible by staying in the left lane, passing on the left, reduce speed deltas to cars that you pass and not cutting people off and drive fast but not erratically. But there are people who have no lane discipline or who are going to call in anyone going more than 10 over. You can’t avoid that. Fortunately by the time you get called in and then the dispatcher gets someone to the highway you are likely long gone. There were several times where we heard us getting called in only to hear that the patrol was significantly behind us. Getting called in repeatedly however would likely warrant a more aggressive response.
But on the other hand, what are you going to do? You literally can no longer slow down and have any shot at the overall record. You have to have a good spotter network and trust them and then also not drive like a dick.
