Driving 2700 Miles Across Country In This.. // Unexpected New Project

this car just drove by and saw me putting the penguin on the grass and filming it and looked at me like i was psychotic [Music] hello fine people of the interwebs as you can see this is not arizona because i am home i flew home to new hampshire to do a 5200 mile round trip if you count flying [Music] to drive back the vehicle i learned how to drive in that my grandmother taught me to drive a manual transmission in and the very first vehicle i ever got to learn giving it the beans in my grandma is the one that taught me that saying in this vehicle which i've mentioned before and some of you already know what it is and then this was the booklet the calendar that the dealer gave my gram the day she bought it brand new so here it is it looks exactly the way my gram left it before she passed away it looks brand new still and it's in 1994. it's this is so crazy seeing this like after all these years and it still looks like this it's still like a new truck in here only problem is brand new it was never equipped with air conditioning it just it doesn't have it it's set up to have it it has everything ready so you can add it on the hood doesn't even have any rock chips like you would think 86 000 miles would have rock chips there's like one little tiny dot right there it's got brand new tires on it because the ones that are on there they're just old even the hardware on the bottom of the doors are like still fresh and clean there's no corrosion there is no there's no rust on the body of this truck whatsoever it's still like it's immaculate just a little bit of surface rust in the frame yeah you'll have to wire brush it okay thank you bye oh this thing is mint it's like a brand new truck still that up there is mount washington in new hampshire some of you know what that is because it's famous for the climb to the clouds hill climb rally and uh i didn't bring any warm clothes because i'm an idiot my gran passed away two years ago and my uncle has had the truck at his house in storage since then and he waxed it all up got all clean and ready i ordered some new tires for ahead of time and today we're doing a maiden voyage up through new hampshire visiting family going into maine and stuff and kind of giving the truck a shakedown run to see if it breaks down now before we go 2 700 miles and change back to arizona in it with no air conditioning then we don't need it right now i know but like the fact that when it starts getting hot near tucson and there's no ac luckily that'll be like the last four hour leg of the trip it'll be from like new mexico into tucson it's done pretty good on this little shakedown run so far only issues is the fuel gauge does not work which is common on these rangers and the mass airflow sensor is probably dirty on this thing or it had some crappy old gasoline in it so it's a little down on power it kind of bogs a little bit charlie is 6'4 so it's kind of not exactly roomy yeah obviously i brought two penguins that's carl and hector they've been paying our tolls yep they actually just went to the strip club that's what the dollars are from wait does that gump have colorado plates on it i know there's gotta be at least one of you watching this video that the first thing you saw when you saw this truck was that's a ford ranger ford ranger if i had a dollar for every time i've seen a clip from that dude i could retire in ranger i had one for six months driving an affordable ranger everybody sent those to me poor ranger let's go little ranger turn right to stay on westbrook street then turn left onto macarthur yeah you gotta make a right it made it its first shakedown it's only shakedown it shook it down down it shook acorns then your destination will be on the right you turn right i forgot it doesn't have power door locks we're gonna do a late start today because it's only five hours to new jersey so starting midday today to avoid traffic we just stopped to the store and got some stuff for the road trip got a five gallon jug for gasoline tape some wipes shop towels uh test light some gloves some basic tools to go with it some pliers screwdrivers a little socket kit and a bottle jack and a tarp some bungee cords so we should have pretty much everything we need in case we have to make a little emergency repair on the side of the road sarah's log is now 2 pm we are now just leaving uh the main new hampshire border and headed to new jersey filled the truck up with some fresh 93 octane and the last tank of gas driving up to do the shakedown run this thing averaged a whopping 12.12 miles per gallon that's pretty bad 12.12 in a ford ranger we think what the deal is is the temp sensor because this thing is always reading at the cold end of the normal range is keeping this thing stuck in the uh cold loop cycle yeah so if it's in warm-up mode all the time it's going to be rich and have uh ignition timing so that's why it probably is getting 12 miles a gallon i'm guessing because it never moves off of cold i'm getting you out of new hampshire ranger so you don't end up like your cousin in front of us full of rust and multi-colored panels to save you from ending up in a scrap yard [Music] you can only go like an hour and a half in this thing before my ass completely falls asleep it's gonna be a long drive what the hell kind of berries did these used to be they look like dehydrated turd berries now those are gross we're in the middle of massachusetts and stopped and checked the gas mileage when it topped off the tank and it's averaging 18.5 miles per gallon now so it's going up mashapog nowhere i can't even hold on to the camera hello wrx hey look you're not driving like a total like everyone else around us penguins log number five we're not in kansas who got murdered in the passenger seat where the scene's so far back i fell asleep when i went to the shop the other night it's the next day we're in new jersey with liz i came to see her this time and it's weird because it's not by plane well it was to maine it was by car now it feels so weird that we're driving back to arizona from here welcome to jersey i hope you enjoy your stay it's really eggs yeah that looks really good liz is lactose intolerant yet she continuously eats cheese i think if it would have been one more year of my graham's truck being in new hampshire the frame would have looked like this i think i caught it at the last moment if you come over here this is my desk it's kind of messy because i keep snacks everywhere treat yourself to some candy vision board is that your ass that is indeed a painting of my bow is that where the heat is in your ass is the side of your ass hot yeah it's just like you know when you drive for a long time and the seed pinches on the side of your thigh your crack looks pretty cold it smells good in here it smells like robots santa's little torch santa's little burner hey wait wait there you're good you're just close to this is it a super aggressive ceramic clutch uh because that's what it feels like it's a stage two yeah okay so it wasn't going into gear at all so every single time i would put it in first second third doesn't matter it was not letting me do it trust me i was going like this nothing and you just show up and it works i just want to lose my mind at least you have an idea of what you need or place yeah it's true it's probably that and this is liz's new project that you don't know about what does it say be extra careful i'm not driving a pile of junk do you see that thing new egypt i've never seen man what man two looking man two looking new egypt before we take off tomorrow potatoes we need to potatoes because something is squealing the front left i think it's the wear indicator for the brake pads but maybe a piece of rust fill down inside there and it's caught between the rotor and the pad who knows but i want to take a look at this before we embark across the rest of the country i really was reluctant to look underneath the truck and accept the fact that there's more than just surface rust on the frame because i know this truck is coming from new hampshire and it's in 94. even though my gram took really good care of this truck it probably did get driven maybe once or twice because she didn't leave for florida until probably just after first snowfall that's the dust shield this is the backing plate for the rotor and it's so it's like paper thin like you can like it fell off so i don't know it's pretty rusty you would spend more time trying to get the front shocks off this truck than it would take to frame swap this truck yeah like it's so strange because like i mean really if you get down and look at this truck cab corners cab corners rot out on vehicles in new england fast these are rust free like this truck the green bits are rust free on this thing like even down here this is a common area to rot out on these trucks no rust on the green bits i know a lot of you are watching this probably right now i'm like why would you waste your time with this truck like legit i'll start crying if i talk about it but it's my grandma's truck so i gotta do it i'd get like a complete pile of garbage clapped out ranger strip it down to the frame sell all the body parts and then rebuild that chassis like all new bushings all new bearings new u-joints all that stuff and like pour 15 or powder coat it and then when the frame is all done swap all this over yeah why it's because they're really good for your gut health you can put them in salad um thanks how about potatoes and farms and stuff like that and all the pigeons that fit on top of things okay mew what are you doing buddy we're leaving liz's house this morning and just filled up the truck 20.4 miles per gallon that's pretty good for a 1994 4x4 pickup truck even though it's the size of a matchbox car alright you idiots navigate us next stop is dayton ohio it's uh nine and a half hours from here and this is a sausage sandwich but it's a beyond sausage sandwich that is all [Music] sarah's log we cannot charge a smartphone because the cigarette lighter had a penny jammed in it for probably a few years and it has a circuit breaker instead of a fuse i haven't seen one of these in a long time it's a little circuit breaker that self resets so you don't always have to replace a fuse sarah test [Music] it works works i think we're about to drive through the appalachian mountains possibly i don't know we're going through blue mountain all you can hear is the time of the tires because i put some meaty tires on this thing because a 39.5 actually looks big on this truck because it's such a tiny truck it looks correct i think even with a leveling kit the 39.5 would still look appropriate on this truck because it is a little large looking in the wheel well it doesn't look small because this truck is so tiny unless you want it to look like a hillbilly off-road mobile but i'm not going for that with this and i'm not gonna trophy truck it either and still looks the same it looks like a vampire that likes writing instruments i want to play fallout 76 now because i'm in appalachia that's a that's a nice bar that's a very video gamey looking car pennsylvania has quite the budget for signage in the state because there's literally every tenth of a mile assigned to let you know [Music] looks like someone's barn died all gone that's a big ass tow truck jeez [Music] holy sheets it's a gas station west virginia does not look like new england anymore this is the first date that it's starting to look like the midwest which i have no idea why it's called the midwest i know it's like why it's called the midwest but this is not the west this is just the middle west virginia is still pretty far east b this is not the midwest this is the middle this is middle this is middle earth i want to put a penguin on west virginia soil one small leap for penguin kind one stupid part of a youtube video for sarah in indiana for the night and it snowed it's freezing here and i got three days of driving left to go we're about a quarter of the way through this trip so there will be a part two coming to see
