hi everybody it's Travis here uh April 20th 2023 out here I thought I'd do a little short video on something that gets done on just about every house especially with a basement uh that's very important but doesn't get talked about a whole lot and that's the drain towel and uh the installation of that around your footer and foundation and and how that can affect your house if not done correctly and Through the Years there's been several times I've seen it done incorrectly and causes a moisture problem especially uh in in the base so so here we're looking at these are poured walls here concrete poured walls and the footer is actually a formed footer so set up boards and form poured the concrete footer there in case you're wondering this here this is called Platinum waterproofing this is a type of waterproofing that gets anchored on with like these Ram set type anchors works very good lets the water run down all these little divots comes down to your stone at the bottom then through the stone into your drain towel so number one on your drain towel is the placement of it your drain tile pipe itself needs to be on the side of your footer or in other words also it needs the top of your drain towel the top of the pipe needs to be below the bottom of your concrete slab on the inside of your foundation so on the inside of your foundation this footer is also showing so your concrete slab in your basement slab comes over and sets right on top of this footer from there up four inches is your concrete slab so your drain tile basically needs to be equal or below the top of your footer that puts it below your concrete slab so the reason that is if the drain tile is up here then any water running through the strain tile could soak through your wall and into your concrete floor and cause a moisture and wet area in your basement now sometimes on a block wall where a footer gets dug actually in the ground and that's what would happen then the pipe would actually go on top of the footer and then you would see in basements you'd be wet at the first course of block all around so if a guy is doing a block wall and the footer is dug in not formed like this you would want to add an extra course of block and make sure that concrete floor was poured you know above your drain towel so once you got your drain tile pipe laid you want to put about six inches of stone over top of it approximately and typically your over dig on your basement should be you know around three foot and the stone is something you don't want to you know don't go cheap on on that you can never put too much Stone in and typically I just if we got a three foot overdig I just filled the whole overdig level across it just looks better it's going to create better drainage overall you know that you can you know that the water will seep through and get out away from your foundation so the other part of that then after you get your stone in and leveled up is your Filter Fabric goes on top of your stone and the reason you want that is when you backfill your dirt if you didn't put that Filter Fabric there the dirt would actually Through The Years soak through uh your 57 clean gravel and actually plug up the drain tile and then the water wouldn't drain out and there again you would have water seeping into your the floor level of your basement with this filter cloth too you want to use a good quality don't get the real cheap stuff that you can see through that you can tear with your hands uh you know it only costs a few bucks more to get the heavier Duty stuff you know this stuff here you are not tearing this uh with your with your hands with your fingers and so forth so it it does a really good job and you can see just uh put some rocks on it whatever just to hold it down uh here we we have to get all this stuff inspected uh here where we're at so the inspector will come out and look at this you know when you got this whole bed full of stone it's level across here it just looks good looks better you know than uh trying to get chintzy cheap on the stone because if you ever someone ever dug it up years down the road for something they'd be like where's the stone who did this you don't want the you don't want that so I'll go ahead and walk you around the foundation here it's a bright sunny day so you yeah that's what it needs to look like all the way around you know on this side here my operator he uh he dug a little past the line and got a little wire so in that case I didn't feel that six foot in with stone we just went you know two and a half three foot and run our fabric all the way down a level so now it's basically it's ready for inspection after it gets inspected then we can put the dirt on it and it'd be good to go so I hope that's helpful drain towel whether you're a homeowner a contractor just make sure that pipe's below the your slab on the inside use plenty of stone use a good quality Filter Fabric and you'll never have a problem so I hope that helped click like any questions comments whatever I'll do my best to reply thanks for watching
