Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I stopped watching the video after noticing that no one was wearing eye protection. Eye dominance is real. Keeping both eyes open allow for depth perception. However, I do know of some that close an eye shooting particular targets, but they are older gentlemen that struggle with vision.
Eye dominance definitely matters. Both eyes open of course, but the effect of eye dominance is pretty easy to test and see....
The guy in this video is unheard of in the English clay scene and he acts like he's the fountain of all clay shooting knowledge and he's conducted many peer-reviewed, double-blind scientific experiments about eye dominance.
He doesn't know what he's on about and he's outright lying regarding eye dominance. Any instructor will tell you to keep both eyes open and he talks like it's his idea. I feel sorry for anyone having lessons with him.
I don't get it - this guy must be right-handed and right-eye-dominant and not understand cross-dominance. I watched until they started talking about new Beretta models; I didn't hear him say anything that would help a cross-dominant shooter.
I'm right handed and left-eye dominant. Sure, I can shoot left handed, and keep both eyes open - that's awkward though. So I shoot right handed and I close my left eye. The only thing I "miss" is a greater level of peripheral vision. That requires me to keep my gun lower than the lip of the trap house so I don't miss a bird coming out of the house. In skeet, it requires me to adjust my starting "aim" points so that I don't cover the target when it's released.
It's not physically possible for me to shoot right handed with both eyes open. Period.
Eye dominance is a thing and you shouldn't shoot a shotgun with one eye closed. Get a fitter to check your mount so that there is no pull from your non-dominant eye and adjust fit/the bead accordingly.
Not sure who this "top shot" is but most would disagree with him. And tell you to put some fucking eye protection on.
