so you got your Tesla huh I mean everyone's getting a Tesla I have videos on how to drive a Tesla because surprisingly with the way the Tesla drives and the regenerative braking it is slightly different but today I'm going to talk to you guys about all the things you shouldn't do when you get your Tesla and if you're doing it now stop doing it immediately what's up guys it's Chris with evident Chris and welcome back to my channel now let's talk about one of the most important the high voltage battery daddy chill AKA my Tesla Model Y is over 50 000 miles and while all my other friends don't have any issues at 30 000 miles my high voltage battery died and it didn't let me charge at all they had to replace the entire pack under warranty now I honestly don't know what cost it but because it's a battery you don't want to put the battery under too much stress so the first thing to stop doing unless you have the lfp standard range testimon 3 or model Y is charging your car to a super high stair charge like a hundred percent or hell even 95 percent now one way you know if you could charge your car to 100 or not you'll see an option to either charge from zero to a hundred percent however you'll know you cannot charge or shouldn't charge to 100 all the time if you see a daily and trip tap near the charging options now when you charge a battery to full all these chemical reactions can occur which can decrease the total battery health and again if you have the lfp standard ranges they are designed to be charged to 100 so don't worry however another huge No-No is letting your battery stay of charge decrease dangerously low constantly anything under 20 isn't something you want to do a lot and getting into the single digits is even worse first off when you let it get that low and then you charge it up you're doing doing pretty much a full charge which decreases the battery life it's also bad chemically for the batteries to be that low so be careful now speaking of all these low battery stair charges the next thing you shouldn't be doing is not using the energy predicted tab this thing is highly accurate as it takes into account wind resistance as well as speed and it says if you can arrive with five percent or lower consider either decreasing your speed or charging somewhere closer it's not like your car is magically gonna gain range on its own don't be lazy don't let your battery be dangerously low and use the graph and predicted feature as it's super accurate now still on batteries if you don't use your car for an extended period of time make sure just keep it plugged in it draws power for certain electronics instead of using a 12 volt or lithium ion battery and high voltage battery and if the state of charge gets too low it can easily charge at up on its own without any damage to your expensive high voltage battery so just keep it plugged in now this one can be a little controversial but I found that you actually have to do it something you should do is basic battery calibrations now I've charged my Tesla to around 80 percent for a while and one day I wanted to go on a road trip and charge to a hundred percent however it stopped at like 94 and it didn't let me charge anymore because my battery wasn't calibrated so to do a battery calibration it's very easy to do all you have to do is let your car go to sleep at different states of charge every few months or so and from time to time charge up to 70 80 90 and even 100 if you know you're going to be doing a lot of driving that day this way the computer can calibrate the battery and gives you a better range estimate and that leads me to my next No-No stressing out about the estimated range and Battery degradation I know so many people who freak out when they see their batteries they charge and miles and it's completely different than a month ago I want you guys to know that the estimated range always changes based on driving habits as well as calibrations so don't freak out which is why I recommend not keeping your Tesla on miles but on percentage instead it gives you some peace of mind and allows you to not worry about better degradation and all the fine details you can see how important taking care of the battery is but again you don't need to really babe your car as there are tons of electronics to prevent serious damage to the battery now one thing I don't recommend doing that again relates to the battery health is charging your Tesla always at a supercharger if you compare the regular Tesla wall charger with a Max output of like 12 kilowatts versus a Tesla Supercharger which can reach 250 kilowatts putting that high amount of power in a battery causes a lot of chemical changes as well less temperature changes that can decrease the overall life of the battery but again take what I say with a grain of salt there are no real studies and data that shows that charging in a Tesla Supercharger will damage your battery my friend only charged at a Tesla Supercharger for a year straight and had no battery degradation so don't worry too much but just keep it in the back of your mind lastly another important thing to do that extends the health of your battery is something called pre-conditioning as well as keeping the car plugged in if you live in extreme weather in cold weather by keeping the car plugged in the car will turn on and keep the battery from getting too cold also if you're on road trips don't navigate to a destination near a supercharger navigate directly to the Supercharger so Tessa knows and can heat up the battery to Optimal temperatures for faster and safer charging so we got the battery out of the way let's talk about something you should know ever do with your Tesla not know where the emergency handles and buttons are I've seen the news stories of cars spontaneously catching on fire who knows if the lithium amount battery is dead making your car dead in the water and not being able to electronically open the door it can be very dangerous right now figure out where the emergency releases are in your car whether it be a mod 3 Model y an X or even an S and know how to open it but don't do this all the time as it can damage the trim I have quick tip videos on these emergency releases so check those out also where are the emergency blinkers it's good to know in case of an emergency for the model Y and three it's right above the roof in between the lights now speaking of emergencies if you guys ever have a flat tire or your tire needs to be jacked up make sure you carry around Tesla the Jack pads or hockey pucks as it's basically an adapter for the jack that you need in order to jack up the car if you don't have it and someone lifts up the car it can damage the high voltage battery now when you get a Tesla it's a dream come true a computer on Wheels it can do so much one thing to keep in mind is that because it's a computer on Wheels and your phone is your key you need to protect yourself as best as possible if someone hacks your test account they can have access to your car so if you didn't do this yet literally pause the video and do it now go to your Tesla account and enable two-factor authentication I use Google Authenticator and it generates a one-time code for you and it gives you a set of backup codes so print these out and keep it safe you never know if you lose your phone or if you get a new phone and you need these backup codes to gain access to your account if you lose the backup codes you can always call Tesla and they really make you very verified it's actually your card but just keep that in mind and enable it right now now speaking of phones as a key it's nice to have keyless entry where you don't need a key to open and start the car however sometimes I'm not gonna lie it doesn't work for me my car won't unlock even though my iPhone 14 pro Max is right next to Tesla when that happens I can simply turn off my Bluetooth on or off or lock it to the phone however I just saw intestine Motors club that someone did something weird where they reset their car left their phone in their car and the car didn't have any sort of Network signal and their phone was locked in their car and it didn't have their key card so they had to call someone to bring the key card to them to unlock the car since Tesla wasn't even able to unlock it remotely because the car didn't have any cell service so I recommend definitely keeping your key card with you at all times in your wallet but if your wallet is attached to your phone and your phone is locked in your car what do you do now I've been wearing my Clinique ring for a few years now and I haven't had any issues it's beautiful it comes in Wood ceramic and now this beautiful silver finish what I love about the Clinique ring is that it's always there it's super awesome because you have your key everywhere you go it's easy to use and the beauty is if you unlock the car you don't have to place the ring on the key holder in the center if you start the car right away now while the wood ring looks amazing just a word of advice if you take it to the gym go with a dark ceramic color or even the new silver color as it holds scratches better than the wood now I do have a promo code for a discount so check that out in the description below now so far a lot of these are super boring things and what not to do with the Tesla but I'm going to add a few more boring things like not rotating your tires if you have a performance model and your tire sizes are different you can skip this step but due to the heavyweight and electronic torque you find an increased in tire wear in the Tesla one way to maintain that rubber is by rotating the tires Tesla can come to your house you can do it at Costco for really cheap America's Tires anywhere overall just realize that tires on Teslas don't last as long as normal gas cars I've had my stock tires for almost 30 000 miles before switching to the mislinch which I love and for me I rotated my tires every 6 000 miles just make sure when you do get the tires rotated they had the Tesla adapter before they jack up the car I will say that every America's Tire and Costco I went to had the adapter another boring thing you should not forget is changing your cabin air filter you'd be surprised how dirty those bad boys get Tesla recommends every two years or three years if you have the HEPA filters however for me I had mine for like six months and I changed it and it was so dirty and black so watch my video on how to change them it's super cheap to buy the filters on Amazon now with gas cars you open the hood you check things out and be a man then after you slam that don't do this with the Tesla the metal is so thin if you slam the hood it will bend the hood and can damage it the method that Tesla recommends is the two hand method one hand on each side of the Tesla logo and gently push down another thing you should not have done by now is not check the trip settings and change the names change one to Lifetime so you have a lifetime record of your energy and if you wrote to your tires because there isn't a rotation schedule notification I change mine to tire rotation every 5000 or 6 000 miles now one thing that makes Tesla amazing is their constant software updates if you haven't done so immediately go into your settings under software and go from standard to Advanced this way you get the software updates quicker however the problem with a lot of these cool software updates is that you need Wi-Fi to download the updates so if you don't have this yet just buy a Wi-Fi extender or a mesh system so you have better Wi-Fi access where the Tesla is but a quick Pro tip for you you can also use your cell phone as a hotspot in order to download the software updates but it just may take a tad bit longer again if you're having problems connecting to the hotspot hold down the two scroll Wheels to do a two-finger reset and it should connect after that now you just got your Tesla you're charging at home and unless you're swimming in that cash money it's a good idea to check your electricity provider to see when your rates are the highest for me in Southern California Edison our most expensive rates are from 4 to 9 pm and by expensive I mean like really expensive like 66 cents per kilowatt which is insane so if you haven't done this do it come on do it now go go to schedule and make sure you set your off-peak charging end time to end at around 3 45 PM then the Tesla will know when you leave and try to charge the Tesla before 3 45 stop charging and resume again in the middle of the night before your schedule departure time now I actually know a lot of people who haven't even looked into detail in their test settings so if you have not checked these out check it out now and make sure to enable all the safety settings as well as Nifty features like automatic blind spot cameras when using the turn signals now another thing you should not do with your Tesla is not investigate common problems before scheduling a service visit in test ER secret service menu to access it simply hold your Tesla Model logo type in service as the password and you're in I've had issues where my mirrors wouldn't go up all the way so I had to recalibrate the windows through their secret service menu and it worked saving me a trip to the service center you can also reset cameras and basic system settings and again this helped me win my autopilot cameras died and the basic camera calibrations in the menu didn't work you can even test your battery health as well so it's super useful features if you guys are interested in a Tesla or solar make sure you don't forget to use my referral code you get one thousand dollars off a mile s or mile x or 1500 credits to use in the Tesla store with them all three or model y purchase or even money off your solar purchase now another thing you should not be doing with your Tesla is not having fun with it it's literally one of the coolest and most unique cars out there with their software I mean have fun play games watch Netflix fart rainbow mode and use the light show to your heart's content and lastly the most important thing you should not be doing as a new Tesla owner is not subscribing to my channel I mean why haven't you yet it's right there hit that subscribe button for more awesome tips and tutorials and road trips and the beauty of Life anyways guys thanks so much for watching I'll see you guys next time
