wake that ass up in the morning the breakfast club bell 105.1 is the breakfast club we got a special guest in the building today a legend let's call it let's call it what it is exciting this is my very first time ever meeting dmx so that's what's up dmx yeah listen i was in miami and i was leaving live and i was like making a joke because i saw you walking in but i didn't know it was really you i was like look at dmx going in to live yeah and then later on it was really dmx and they ended up blowing it down that's right little crack means to live tight man no i just happen to you know stumble across it you know turned out to be popping too yeah okay now let me let me tell you about dmx dmx was probably one of the artists that saved def jam back in the day when def jam was going down and and he saved fgm with the with the cruddy raps but let me tell you how generous dmx was okay this is when i was producing dmx flew me down to uh la when he was shooting a movie and uh we did about four or five tracks but the reason i knew dmx was so big is in the middle of the movie he stopped filming it was like envy let's go uh fly helicopters and we went to the store we bought remote control helicopters and started flying helicopters in the middle of the set now who was the guy that you were doing the filming at the time um asian uh um jelly gently asian actor let me tell you oh yeah a little guy named jetley hold up gently was a little guy because gently had to wait there in his trailer for four hours five hours until dmx stopped priorities just doing these helicopters and i said this guy is crazy but we did it for like four or eight hours and gently just sat there and waited hey he's cool with it and i really enjoyed your reality show when you had the reality show on television thank you yeah you did some watching um a new one celebrity couples oh really yeah yeah you and your i don't do the wife ex-wife ex-wife okay yeah homemade though exactly we still like the best of friends i'm saying you know you know that's never going to change man i'm grateful for that i think that's great and your vh1 behind the music was all right now we got the goons in the building y'all but that was one of the most i think uh just really emotional and and crazy like vh1 behind the music it was honest it was honest i mean a lot of people are afraid of honesty i'm saying they're afraid to show who they are you know because they they think it you know it makes them look weak or whatever or you know well we all have flaws man you know what i'm saying anybody who tries to act like they don't it's full of well you know they're full of yeah that's why i always say you were so necessary because you you do come with a lot of honesty and a lot of truth yeah but a lot of times that has been you know the gift and the curse for you exactly that's exactly what it's always been it's always been i've said that so many times so many songs over the years you know blessed with the curse blessed with the curse i'm not gonna lie i didn't know if you were gonna really show up today really i was like i don't know if dmx is gonna show up for this show oh i don't know why i just have this perception because i guess from watching the reality show you could be at 7-eleven cooking things in the morning that was an edit that really didn't happen the way you know i was upset i was at the store doing that but i wasn't supposed to be going to the studio okay seems like he was cooking eggs in the microwave at seven yeah i didn't cook the eggs in the microwave but i wasn't supposed to be going to the studio you know and then you hear me start even look right i mean like you know your envy story is how you interrupted a movie for for four hours oh yeah but see that's not late that's just going to do something you know you know i was already there and then i left to do something else did you ever have that in your contract like look i'm gonna shoot this movie but every now and then i might take four hour break i think it might have been in there okay he should have shot a different scene while he was gone or something or something else now let's let's talk about the career let's go back a little bit now you you sold millions and millions and millions of records and then all of a sudden you slowed down it just seemed like you just stopped was it the fact that you had a problem with def jam was it the producers were you were you know with rough riders what was what made dmx stop recording and uh we're being truthful because we want to know we haven't heard from x in a long time yeah i know the story already i'm saying used to be my dog he was in my left titty you know scream right or die i thought you would die with me you know what happened was you know i said i had the crazy track record death jam everything was good you know i go to do the sixth album and you know yeah yeah yeah you know when he first got the job he hit me with the call like yo dog it makes us running the building like yo you good finish the album shoot the video what happened [ __ ] going vacation and you know we don't know you don't know how do you how do you listen to a whole album pick a single shoot a video then don't know okay i see what's really good you're trying to eliminate the competition you know because at first you retire you know you know then get me off the label now you're back rapping again okay i mean it's all good that's all good well you know everybody knows you've had battles with drugs throughout the years yeah so at the time they were saying that you know you was on drugs that's why they didn't want to invest in you right they already invested something they didn't want the best they already invested like i said the album was recorded shot the video you mean everything that was just some bullsh you know you know what it was do you ever feel like get rid of the competition do you ever feel like people at the label didn't do enough for you when you were when they could tell that you really needed help or do you think that you were too far gone no that was never too far gone i mean they just all i needed was just do me like you do everybody else and you don't sit there and and you know speculate about this and and think about this and assume this is doobie like you do everybody else and it's gonna be aight man i mean but that never happened that never happened with dmx2 you never the fjmi i feel never put a lot into dmx it was always the groundwork with dmx it was kind of like where he was from just spread it across the like it was never like they never spent i don't think they expected it yeah they never expected it to get out with the first album get out yeah they never expected that from dmx now we got to talk about you driving dmx dmx you should never drive a car stay from behind cars stay away from the car suspended driving you cannot drive i thought i had problems driving but this guy i got too many cars in that drive man let dave breeze drive somebody what is your license situation looking like right now really really just going to put me out there [Laughter] are you ever going to be able to drive again well you know what now would you say am i going to be able to drive again do you mean legally or physical legally probably not no no ever well you know i just have faith that um you know one day it'll work itself out but in the meantime i'm behind the wheel man catch me if you can you do some funny random things though like in the airplane when he played the fbi agent was the craziest thing i've ever heard was that true were you real did you really put the light on in the car and bust through the gate everything is in you gotta take everything in perspective oh boy okay everything needs to be in perspective see what happened was oh boy you know somebody lying when they started with what happened for a flight right and this dude in the raggedy ass honda he driving wild slow right now usually if i'm gonna rush him saying i'm in that truck i'll hit the lights and you know throw the siren or whatever and they get out the way right but he was just totally disrespecting my authority not that i really had the authority i think that made you feel like you had more authority than you actually had yeah i had a supercharger there once it was all blacked out i [Laughter] yo all right i might have asked for his license [Laughter] and then the lady you know the lady in the uh in the parking lot they'd be driving around the golf cart at the airport call the police in this dude you know i might have said you know something to the fact that i'm i am the police yeah yeah all this while you're rushing to catch a flight but you have time to stop somebody pull them over get their license cause anger gets the best of me sometimes oh okay you know and when i get angry to a certain point nothing else matters right and i really want to snatch them out the car and just you know dump them out like police really do you know you know but i didn't do it okay so anger plus you know alcohols and drugs maybe like none of that sober suburb um it should have since worn of course you have also said that you do suffer from bipolar disorder i didn't say that oh you didn't i read that somewhere hmm awkward hold on let me go but you know what that's what they're doing they can't figure somebody out they say he's bipolar he got adhd yeah a whole bunch of random letters now also ja rule did you ever have a problem with ja rule ever had a problem you know that everybody what was the problem with john did you feel like he was stealing your style everything um something like that oh my god i'd rather not but you guys are going to do an album together do you know how yeah yeah and you know figured we couldn't really get in the studio yeah yeah yeah have you have you seen jay lately anytime lately j-hope jay-z no no i mean if y'all see each other it wouldn't be an issue it'd be like you know would you have a conversation like grow man would you pull him over with the sirens um no what about leo cohen because he spoke very highly of you on music the last real label of hip-hop i mean that's that was like the last er of hip-hop when it was like you know the same as when run dmc and you know llj and then queen latifah and nikki d and you know when hip-hop was hip-hop you mean that was like the last the last of the mohicans man do you still get inspired to do music yes yeah are you gonna do it i don't know i don't i don't have to um you know be commissioned to do album to do a song i mean to go in the studio you know i get influenced i get inspired and i write now do you feel like a lot of people are using you that you just came home because as soon as you came home it seems like every artist out there reached out to do a quick little song with you and then bounce do you feel like artists try to use you because of who you are in your situation um well you know if that is the case you know um them attempting to use me would just get them shut out on their own song right i mean so it's like you know if that's what you want to do do it but um if i if i don't feel a song or the artist i'm not going to do it i think it's a positive thing though that you could go away and then come back and artists are still like that's who i want to work with that means they're inspired by you like i know machine gun kelly in particular yeah i like waka flocka too yeah you guys actually somebody are you working on a a mixtape together or something like that no but you did a song together and he did say that you were like his number one inspiration yeah we had we had a great vibe in the studio too now kelly seemed like somebody you you would diss like you like i'm not rocking with this school why i mean you know i'm not into the you know just just for nothing type of you know i don't do that i'm saying you know it has to be a reason it has to be you know something that was done to me you know lyrically i wouldn't think you would like machine gun he's a nice guy great energy yeah great energy but lyrically i wouldn't think you would want to rock with him on a record would y'all say he's whack or something that he did i like wild boys because it fits him it's his energy i know what type of innocent flock of that face who do you think is nice right now yeah lyrically um i'm missing something my favorite new guy right now is uh i like i like jeezy i like french montana i like to change cheesy i like meek mill i think we like j cole j cole is nice i think meek mill is very dope lyrical easy cheesy absolutely lyrically absolutely i feel him i'm not going to say lyrically but i feel him he's got his hair though he's not yeah he's not a great lyricist he's not a great lyrical you're talking about lyrics i feel him i feel him like if i had to compare them i'd say like like rick ross is dope lyrically you know if i had to compare that to i'd say rick ross was more like biggie jeezy was more like pogba park wasn't the best lyricist but you felt them rick ross looks more like biggie rick ross got lyrics though all right well i guess i guess i so do you guys love dmx enough for you i'm just not impressed man real talk so who impresses dmx right now anybody me okay is nice nicole is nice you know literally you know i heard his first song already before i even knew he was like damn who's that means that somebody just grabbed my attention like that um i'm surprised you don't like ross lyrically man rossby's he's alright man he just talked about eating and you know you know girlfriend too much you know you know like you know how much can a [ __ ] eat how much green can you smoke like all right let's talk about something else i know you got them you got a mirage you got the aston martin okay good for you damn come on we i see a whole nother side of the coin son what do you think about lil wayne we got a good relationship i see i don't i don't think i think everything you said about wayne exactly what everything you just said about russ is what i think about wayne yeah i think all he talks about smoking weed yeah and a whole bunch of you know i said we're cool what about drake you like drake no my man i hate him that's my guy right there no that's why x is necessary in the game right there now why don't you like drake i don't like legendary this is why the game has gotten so whacked you got legendary hip-hop figures who just give these guys passes yeah who don't say anything who don't say okay dudes nothing it's okay to say yo this dude is whack i think he's whack it's okay to say that let's go into politics it's too much politics you don't want to act like you like something foreign you know it's funny because it was a rumor and i i knew it was just the rumor when i heard it was a rumor that you was going to sign the mmg at one point who's the mmj well i got a letter when i was in prison like yo you know who's in the limo for you i appreciate it off and all that but i really couldn't see it to see it happening like that you know what i'm saying who were some of the people that really kept in contact with you while you were in prison um mostly checks yeah i mean but you know like you don't expect your man to write a letter because i know i can write my man but even even persons too business-wise whether people that really just reached out to the manager anybody you know this nikita walker grimy [ __ ] she [ __ ] she robbed me you know she's a thief don't trust her arizona she said she's still working me smack her so she was your manager she's my magic yeah and what was she doing like booking shows and keeping the money or that you know getting money from the label you know and not telling you about that telling me nothing i mean she didn't even put money on the phone so i can call it collect i mean you know that that is one check i have named janiece i ain't even know shortly she's from jersey i'm saying and she just wrote me out the blue you know and she she made um flight reservations hotel ready to come visit me and all that from new york to arizona without even knowing the kids you know what i'm saying wrote me on the wreck and all that so you know shortly definitely held me down you know what's happening you're a good girl so you said you know you wouldn't sign with a label like way back music group i said i was assigned with that label with that label so would you ever sign with like a ymca like that's what i think when i see when i see legends like i don't like the name of the label you know how many letters on the label this is just just just give me what i need man you know i'm saying the proper promotion you know what i'm saying and you know that's it that's it and creative control that's all i need i see i think i think i definitely think x is missed in this game and and i love the fact that i see greasy in the corner because i mean that sound that grease had that i copied a couple times because i might all your paychecks you won't be the first that sound that grease had is kind of like that sound that's been missing now also do you still speak to swiss and everything that sound as well like you guys when y'all made an album together that was was a masterpiece that's pretty much what this album is right now you know what i'm saying you know same same formula you know this is undisputed yes march 27th is that still the release date or are we and what later is that celebrity state well you know we're gonna ride with it but um you know if we just if we just hit you over the single down mm-hmm you know it's not really looking good but you know it's done the album's done it's being mixed makes it massive right now mm-hmm so you know i'm banging him in the head man whenever come out it's going to do what it do you mean but as long as you give us those tracks like you had on the album like like back in the day not not that that stuff that's out now that dirty grinding i don't know how to do that different type of stuff that damien that that just like that x that's what that's what we need bx we haven't seen that in a long time and the thing the thing i say like like don't when you sign to these new labels like you know people do that cause they trying to try to gain new audiences you don't got to do that based on this i don't know what it is the people that are going to buy your album the people that really rock with that so if it's forty thousand fifty thousand so what you still get your money yeah you know it's gonna be a drug nowadays like what uh sex absolutely oh yeah you're addicted to sex am i dead i got ten kids what do you think oh you know what about that woman remember you said that women she knows that she took the yeah yeah she said she raped you yeah i mean rape sounds like she went in the back door she took the dick now this is something because that was an interesting story when i read it don't you that show sold out in absolutely no time so make sure you get there early now what are you performing performing everything or how long is the set is it first out the second thing i'll tell you like this man the last couple shows man been like what an hour 30 minutes hour 25 minutes so i just i just i just be getting it in man it depends on some two hours it just depends on the crowd man you know what i'm saying you know i i give what i get have you reassessed everything and said okay this is what i got to do differently now you know i made some mistakes in my past so moving forward you know i'm doing this this this and that difference i don't think there's a such thing as a mistake as long as you learn from it okay it's it's um it's something that had to happen i mean it's something that you go through and you know it's a blessing really it doesn't depend on what you get from it right yeah you guys start using condoms too you got a lot of people i do i do but i'm saying yeah for what it what do you think of the new york hip-hop landscape what do you mean like just overall right now because it hasn't it's been stagnant for years now see i don't know who's from where anymore like i you know i just i just walk my dog you know saying absolutely you surf the web and stuff like do you want to i don't do none of that i don't even know how i don't seem like you i'm not going to use your computer at all i know your team's trying to get you to do more of that like actually you got to do it i don't want people to be that involved in my life i can't see you tweeting it just be like bad capital letters i did one i tweeted one thing and um i forgot what it was but you know somebody could do it do it i'm like all right i did it i didn't feel any different i was like really i don't know if one tweet would change your life yeah i haven't even looked at it anymore oh it's like you know it's just too much it's too much some nosy [ __ ] if you ask me [ __ ] out of here man dmx
