DIY white wash Valspar Limewash glaze over chalk paint

hey everyone and welcome to my youtube channel my name is lindsey in today's video i'm going to be showing you how i upcycled a piece of furniture i bought from facebook marketplace i'll walk you through my prep process and show you how i achieve the final look on the piece using valspar's lime wash glaze so if this interests you stick around and keep watching this is what the table looked like when i bought it i decided to use a neutral colored chalk paint and apply a lime wash glaze on top of that to give the piece a new look [Music] so let's start with the prep process you want to make sure that before you paint anything you clean it thoroughly remember prep is the most important step the way i use this cleaner is by mixing two teaspoons into a large spray bottle filled with purified water after i cleaned it with this product i went back and used a different spray bottle of purified water only and made sure to wipe off and remove all of the cleaning product [Music] this is another one of my favorites from dixie bell it's their primer that works really well on laminate surfaces you don't necessarily need to prime every piece of furniture but i've found that it always helps my paint go on more evenly so i applied one coat of slick stick to this piece [Music] this is probably my favorite color of chalk paint that i've used so far from dixie belle it's a really pretty neutral color and the shade is called mason dixon gray i ended up applying two coats of this and let it dry overnight i did not sand it or apply a top coat before the next step of applying the glaze [Music] i just wanted to show you a few pieces i've painted in my home with that same color this is a before and after of my nightstand and this is another before and after of my bedroom dresser [Music] so now i'm going to show you how i applied the valspar limewash glaze on top of the chalk paint this is going to give the piece a whitewashed appearance make sure you're using lint-free rags with this product you can find these on amazon or most stores have them in their paint section be sure to give your product a good stir once you open it here i'm showing you how i applied the glaze to the piece using a dry foam brush it's easier to work in smaller segments when applying this next grab one of your lint-free rags and start to wipe off the glaze while i was applying this i was trying to be as consistent as possible but also trying to make it look random you don't necessarily want this wash to look perfect and as the container states it's creating a gently lived-in effect the back of the container states that you can also apply it using a slightly damp cotton rag just know that there's more than one way you can apply this product i continued to repeat this process until the entire top of the table was covered this is the finish i chose to use for the piece i used a clean dry foam brush to apply it and did a total of three coats in between each coat i used a piece of 220 grit sandpaper to gently sand [Music] so one more time here's a picture of it before and this is the final look i really like the effect the limewash glaze gave the piece it almost gives it a marbled appearance i think the updated look makes the table go more with the rest of the decor in the house it currently sits in our front living space of our home here's another project i completed using the same process and products while i was in the process of painting the table i was also in the process of updating some of our ceiling fans and i thought why not give this fan a similar look as the table i'll be uploading a tutorial soon giving you a closer look at some ideas of how to update ceiling fans i ended up updating four of mine and used different products for all of them so if you enjoyed today's video or found it useful please give it a thumbs up i have a lot more projects i'll be working on around the house and i can't wait to share those with you so don't forget to subscribe to my channel thanks again for watching this video and take care
