is your shower not draining very well let's get that fixed I'm Jeremy with bath now and I'm going to show you how to unclog your drain in five easy steps step one is to get access inside that drain so your drain may have two screws on the cap that you have to unscrew to take off on this particular shower it's just a pop-off drain like this and I used an allen wrench because that's just what I had handy to remove it okay so that's step one simple step two is to clear out some of the junk and grime manually by hand you might want to use toilet paper or some paper towels so the main things that clog up your shower drain are what I call Grime and hair hair is probably the number one culprit because hair will catch all this stuff and it'll create the grime and create the mold and mildew what I call Grime would be soap scum the skin and oils from your body um you know shampoo residue things like that you know it all kind of solidifies and and combine and it'll collect with the hair like a spider web and over time it just grows and grows and grows and you're going to grow mildew in there that's what I call Grime that's what's going to typically cause your drain to either be clogged up or have a you know really slow drain okay so let's move on to step three this is using some sort of a drain cleaner tool or something to get down deep uh farther in the drain to maybe pull out some of what's actually blocking up the flow or maybe push some of What's blocking the flow there's lots of different tools for this and we're also going to get some of the fine material you'll see in a minute I'm going to use a toothbrush to kind of scrub and clean around the edge of the drain and deep down in the drain as far as the toothbrush will go I am not happy with this at all I don't think it's a good one I would use a different one they make tons of different varieties that you could buy typical grocery stores or a Walmart your Lowe's Home Depot you could buy online at Amazon I would not recommend this one but as long as it's a tool or a snake to get down in that drain okay so now we're gonna move on to step four which is using some sort of a solution to break up some of the blockage down in the drain I've got hot water with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide that's what I mixed and what I'm doing is I poured about two large bottles down the drain and I'm just gonna let that sit for a while and let it do its magic and kind of eat away some of the of the mess okay and just like that we're on to step five this is using formula 409 and a toothbrush to clean the drain basically to get every little last bit of dirt left to make it aesthetically clean and to do the final touches on it and at this point hopefully your drain should be flowing clean and clear stick around to the end of the video and I'll tell you some more solutions to unclogging stubborn drains that these five steps don't take care of okay so here's an optional step six this is cleaning the drain cap it kind of has to be done and I'm just using some toilet paper and formula 409 to just kind of rub it down and then you'll see that I use a Scotch Brite pad with the formula 409 and scrub it clean it up real good I've sped the video up because it's kind of self-explanatory I guess but we will be installing the drink app in just a second and we'll test it out [Music] and looky here the Moment of Truth she's flowing like new again and it didn't take that long foreign s don't unclog your drain you may have a severe blockage that could be from something large obviously clogging up the drain and you just none at none of these methods clear it out and it could be further on down the line or you could have a backup blockage I've heard of people having their for example their septic system back up and it backs up all the way in their house and eventually it can overflow outside of a toilet or outside of a tub but basically you have a blockage and no amount of these simple cleaning tips is going to fix that so some alternative methods could be a plunger you could get a plunger and just put it on top of the drain and suction and try to move whatever blockage is in there that could work you could use a snake and I'm talking about a big long snake really really run it down the drain for a super super long distance that could clear out a blockage if none of those work you may have to call a plumber who will have various tools snakes for example or even tools with cameras that they can go down in the drain and find whatever the blockage is foreign [Music]
