I want to talk a little bit about joist hangers how what they are and how you use them and most most importantly you know the fasteners so this is a traditional joist hanger is made for two by tens and Tuba twelves and these are designed by structural engineers to support you know given loads and in other words you can look it up in a book that comes that there's generally two major manufacturers of structural connectors like this and and they tell you exactly how to use them but for most floors decks these works is fantastic but what's what's really important though is is what you use to fasten it to the wood and unfortunately a lot of people use roofing nails huge mistake roofing nails are not structural connectors the manufacturers of these joist hangers actually make special nails and screws that you're supposed to use to put these in for example look at this box right here so this box these are very special screws that are made to go into the into the wood and they're two and a half inches long they're coated specially so they're not going to react they're not going to corrode with the treated lumber and you know you just use a nut driver to put them in very very easy if you're going to nail it if you decide you just want to nail it for whatever reason you have to use these special nails once again these are made by the manufacturer of the joist hanger these are special structural nails they're double hot-dip galvanized so that they won't corrode so you have to use the right fasteners and you have to put a fastener in each one of these holes in other words don't take a shortcut don't just put a couple in and think you're okay they've got these holes here for a reason and of course in the side here these are diagonal holes in other words once you get the joist in place or the joist hanger you'll notice that there are four there's two on each side these kind of go in at an angle they're like a toenail and they they really do a good job of connecting the joist with the wood beam so make sure that you use Jois Tigers make sure you use them right and everything's going to be just hunky-dory believe me if you want to discover more home improvement tips go to ask the Builder com Oh
