guys stop wasting cardboard it's one of the most valuable things you can use around the house and in the garden i'm going to show you six very useful and easy ways to recycle it at home so the first option i want to talk about for recycling cardboard at home is to compress it into this type of paper log so this is just shredded and then compressed cardboard it also works for any kind of paper product you can use this then to heat your home or you can use it as a campfire it's safe to transport this across state lines a lot of states don't allow you to import firewood so this is an excellent and easy way to use a significant amount of cardboard quickly another way you can recycle cardboard at home is you can inoculate it with effective microorganisms and use it right at home as your own bokashi bran or your own bokashi starter or compost starter and i'll go into detail in another video about how to do this right at home the next way i want to talk about is you can use cardboard as a carbon source in any of your composting so if you have good clean cardboard that doesn't have a lot of printing or wax or anything like that obviously no tape or plastic on it you can separate that cardboard from your regular like your maybe your glossy cardboards which i often use for a different option and use it right in your compost bin you can also use cardboard to create biochar and this is how i get rid of a lot of my cardboard i have a special tea lud oven that i convert my convert all my cardboard shredded cardboard into biochar and put that in the garden and it really helps the crops grow and it effect it improves the soil health in general you can look up terra prada if you want to see a little bit more about how this is useful i'll have a detailed video in the future on how this works i also use shredded cardboard as worm bedding you can use it for several different kinds of animals personally i keep worms so worm bedding is usually what i use it for and in this way i'm able to convert shredded cardboard into very valuable worm castings believe it or not you can grow potatoes in shredded cardboard or at least i do i'll show you how to do this in detail it's pretty simple you take your shredded cardboard you put it in your trench and you replace that in place of your soil amendments you do have to of course this is kind of a quasi-hydroponic method so you do have to add some fertilizer of some kind but this is an excellent way to use basically all the cardboard you can you can have around the house and the final way that i want to talk about to use cardboard right at home or to recycle cardboard at home is sheet mulching if you're going to be out in the garden sheet mulching cardboard is the go-to solution it's the best way to go ahead and lay down a nice layer and prevent weeds from growing up and over time also build that lasagna kind of composting which will allow you to have very nice soil good soil structure over time so these are six ways plus some bonus ways to recycle cardboard right at home don't waste this resource there are so many other ways to utilize it at home now before we close this video i just want to explain one thing so i take the raw cardboard and i convert it into this shredded input material which i use for many of my recycling processes the only thing that i don't trade it for of course is sheet mulching which requires nice large sheets of cardboard to get that barrier between the soil and your compost so this is what the input material looks like and i'll show you how to use this in great detail in future videos if you have any uh questions or you'd like to suggest which video to cover first leave them in the comments below thanks we'll see in the next video
