DIY Garden Stairs. Vlog #284

[Music] all right welcome back to another episode of whatever the heck this is it seems like we have no shortage of the types of projects that we've wanted to work on for years but have never pulled the trigger on you know those projects you always want to get to or you hope to get you or you've drawn blueprints for a thousand times and just haven't done it yet today's a great day to knock one of those off of our list for some reason whenever we do an outside project we're pretty much guaranteed to have like can you get through one vlog without complaining about the heat no so many of you have been watching our videos know that we have this giant ramp in our yard the terrain to get to it is a little bit sketchy and dirty um we've had a couple people slip on the way to the ramp we've had rolled ankles a friend of ours rolled down the hill so we're gonna make it a lot easier to get to and from the ramp we're gonna pick up some wood and we're gonna build we're going to build stairs our way look at that look at those skateboarding ballooners [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] idiots load number one [Music] it's been a while how's it feel to be back out here so there's like probably a million ways to create steps and stairs and and a million different materials you can use i happen to fall in love with probably the version of that that needs the most wood this is half the lumber we got to go back to get the rest of it yeah so we got the pressure treated for this uh you know the spots that are going to be on the earth and then um went with pine it gets the job done and i actually like the way it looks so i've got a bug bite already during it mosquitoes are out already [Music] all right we're ready to assemble rock paper scissors who has to go get it rock paper scissors shoot [Music] [Applause] we're kind of eyeballing these stairs like we have an idea of how we wanted to look but we haven't like we haven't measured the slope of the hill or anything so it just makes sense to build all the frames set them in place make sure it looks how we want it to look we're being artists yeah we want them to be kind of modern floating steps if it works great if not then you can learn from our mistakes [Music] you're sixty we got all of the structure done we built these stairs in kind of a unique way they're not exactly textbook this is kind of like a floating staircase so if you start from the top each step sets on the next step down we really lucked out with the grade of the hill because the 2x6 ended up being the perfect height board to just like keep everything level shy guy and i we're going to take some lumber back to lowe's and get the two by six by eights that we need to surface the top of these terrors we only need 20 of them the sweepy has conveniently scheduled her once in every 10-year hair appointment today [Music] okay i realize that these are child safe but like i gotta i've never i don't think i've ever gotten the cap off of this thompson stuff with my bare hands i've always had to use a wrench or something it does not work using an old sock [Music] who's home i know you were done sooner than usual it looks pretty you want a stain [Music] so this is a pretty cool tool i i think i hope it works um banking on it working because with this tool you can hide all of your screws so this whole staircase will have zero visible screws which would be pretty crazy so my questions are a are the screws really hidden and b will it split the wood because it splits the wood it's pointless land it just land on it [Music] [Music] these projects kind of seem to take somewhere around two to three days every time we want to like improve something in our home uh between like going back and forth to the store and building and staining and painting and all the other things that go along with it the time goes by quick we're gonna finish these stairs today we are on the final step pun intended uh if you're wondering what all these gray stripes are going down the stairs well that's because we're covering up the pressure treated wood it's gonna really complete the look of a floating staircase so we got the trim we're gonna cut it 45s stain everything tack everything up with our battery operated nailer sleepy gave me permission this time to say it's so hot today and the bathing suit top and shorts letting it breathe [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'm thinking it looks really cool i really like it i'm already like thinking about what to do next 10 steps ahead already yeah let's get that stained can you get thumbnail here got it [Music] a little safety precaution rounding out these corners we got a lot of little ones that play in our yard so just removing as many hazards as they can done i gotta put two more nails in this last board we just added but look now see how easy this looks oh wow no dirt on the shoes almost we got this little patch down here it's grass not too dirty and then over here we're gonna eventually do a deck where we can chill and watch the ramp you drift in the front oh no dang it it's a miracle anything to say about this i think right yeah [Music] this is where we say we did it we've done it again i don't know if anyone has seen dennis the menace but there's this part where they're painting their tree fort or they're like port and they go we did a pretty good job and every time we finish a project i feel like that scene we did a pretty good job we have plans to keep expanding and to keep building out this yard to be a more hospitable environment i think we achieved like the floating staircase look that we were going for yeah it's exactly what i wanted there's a couple new things that we wanted to share with you we set up a patreon which we dragged our feed on doing
