all right hi guys uh welcome to my channel if you're watching this video you're probably researching the best way to make a dog septic tank to deal with your best friend's poop uh wow that sounds way wrong uh but anyway uh essentially what you you've seen i'm sure is uh where people get a bucket they cut out the inside drill holes on the side uh dig a hole bury it to about you know about right here um and then they essentially you can put the poop in there you put just add some water and some enzymes and hopefully depending on what kind of soil you have there's all kinds of things that go into it whether it's going to work or not i had that for about a year um and it got full uh it i mean does it work yes um is it as efficient as what i'm gonna build i don't know i don't know yet i don't think so but we'll see so the fact that i had to take that one out and and either make a new one or build a new new style of it i kind of gave up on this style i didn't want to do the whole you know i don't want to scoop that stuff out now granted when you're using the enzymes it does decompose the poop it didn't smell it wasn't like horrible and you're actually digging up dog poop um it was just uh it was kind of odorless to be honest but again it did build up so what we're gonna do is i changed up the system a little bit where instead of using a regular five gallon uh i'm using a this is actually one of those chlorine tabs if you have a pool um i mean it's just a bigger bucket if you can tell it's a taller bucket they're they're thicker um and i'm just gonna give it a shot see how it goes um i have one big dog and one small mental dog and um we're gonna see if this is a little bit better now the difference is we're not doing this system okay what we're gonna do instead and i'll show you what all these parts are in just a second and what they do but what we're gonna do and excuse my camera work i'm doing trying to do this one-handed so what we are going to do is we are going to get the bucket and we're going to cut out a hole at the bottom of the bucket okay about that big and that hole is going to be for this guy and you can get these at any big box store i got mine at the blue box store um now one thing i will say is that depending on where you go this part of it needs to be flat the one at the orange box store um is actually it's a different it's a different brand and it kind of flares a little bit here it's kind of curved and that's not what i was looking for so i actually had to go back to the other one and find this one which is flat and i'll tell you why that's important in a second but anyway all this is you can choose whatever size you want i'm going 2 inch because i just happen to have 2 inch pipe from my pool laying around but what it is is a one and a half inch adapter to a 2 inch pipe that's all that is they have them in the pvc section you can't miss them and the pipe is just basically going to connect to this you're going to have something that looks like this okay here's your pipe this is gonna go inside here and when it does you're gonna have something that's gonna look like this okay and i'll show you what this is so you're gonna have the pipe that's gonna be connected at the bottom and it's about maybe two to three inches from the top and this is the overflow okay so you're gonna put your poop in there along with your water um well first of all at the water add the digestive enzymes uh let it establish for a couple hours then you can begin to add your waste in there fresh waste is actually easier for the enzymes to digest don't quote me on that i don't know if that's true but i would imagine uh it's just easier to dissolve in the water and then the enzymes that do their job and as you keep you know every time you add some in there you add some more water water will rise eventually to get to this point and it'll drain over okay and that's essentially just the water that's going to go down into the hole that you dug and we'll get to that in a minute um and i go into the uh it'll just soak right back into the earth okay so it's a cleaner way um more eco-friendly way to get rid of your dog waste now going back to these parts you see the bottom of this right here um it's difficult with one arm so right here i i you're not gonna where i couldn't find a gasket large enough to fit this one and a half inch so what i did is i just went ahead and i bought uh this material which is gasket making material which you can also get at the same store any hardware store really um i forgot where i got this one i think probably it might have been the blue one lowe's so anyway you cut it out and essentially what you're making is a gasket okay and you put the gasket over this until seats at the bottom and i'll show you once it's assembled then it's kind of it's a pain to do with one hand and then what you're gonna do is you're gonna look for a one and a half inch nut like this okay now this is in the plumbing section it's for like pvc traps and stuff like that and when you get one of these it comes with the lip at the bottom okay i ground that away with a grinder you can you know just do it any way you can just get rid of that little lip because you want it to go otherwise if you don't what will happen is as you put it on it'll stop right there and as you can see that's not enough for it to go all the way down to the bottom okay here here's the bottom see you have to go all the way down to connect it to the bucket so just make sure that you get rid of that lip and then it'll go all the way on so i'm going to pause here and i'm going to put it together and just show you what it's going to look like so i'll be back in just a second okay so here is the gasket installed my makeshift gasket out of that material and there's different widths i think this is the 1 8 inch they have a like a i forget what the other size is it's a little bit thicker but yeah i don't think it's that important just as long as you have some sort of a seal between the bucket and the nut that you're gonna fasten it fasten it with all right so let's see okay one thing i do want to point out uh is when you make this hole uh on the bucket make sure it's as tight to this to the diameter of the adapter that you're putting in mine's it's a little bit bigger it's still gonna work um but i wish it would have gone a little bit tighter but it's not going to be an issue but just don't go just get as close as you can to the diameter of this piece right here the adapter uh the closer the tighter of fit the better it is all right so this is what the finished product is going to look like so essentially you've got your pipe and you've got about you know about two three inches from the top that's your overflow so again the waste goes in there there'll be water in there with enzymes to dissolve it which is basically just any type of a waste septic tank uh type stuff like red x or whatever you can get on amazon there's tons of it um here's the bottom looks like so here's your pipe here's a nut and the reason you need that lip off of that or shaved off is because it needs to go through all the way down to be snug against the bucket just like so all right so there you go that's that make sure that's tight you can do a water test see if it leaks hopefully it doesn't uh it's no big deal but if it does a little bit but i'm going to test it later just to see how it is and then we'll go from there another thing to consider is [Music] you know this pipe fits pretty tight into that uh fitting down there but i am gonna use those things the uh the glue and just glue it down do you have to probably not uh but why risk having it come off and then you got to deal with that mess so if you're going to do it do it right the first time don't mess with it all right oh and by the way uh the top of this is essentially going to be just the lid that's going to go on top okay and what i'm going to do is i'll add a little handle and another thing i'm going to do is i mean you don't have to but i'm going to cut this out so i can just get the hose and you know if i want to churn things up in there get the enzymes going i may or may not do that we'll see we'll see how it goes all right so the bucket is assembled you've got your pipe overflow pipe that goes in there connected to the bottom of the uh bucket and it is here's the bottom of it okay here is the hole that i've dug for it and this is a full four feet you'll see a lot of people on videos say oh you know i couldn't dig four feet i just went three feet well if you really want it to go you know the distance try to go as deep as you can if you can't go four feet it's you know it happens but try to go at least four feet that'll help you with drainage and who knows and maybe it'll last you a lot longer so essentially and uh just to show you four feet is pretty far down um and it was not fun um this was actually uh quite a project it was fun said no one ever but it is what it is um this is the what i'm gonna use as a filtering media which essentially like one inch one and a half inch uh river rock you can use whatever you want whatever you have around um i wouldn't recommend anything too tight like see that stuff that that might get too compacted with dirt and whatnot so that's why i'm going with this stuff and you can get this um i mean you can't get it at the big box stores uh i went to a landscaping place near my house here in gilbert they're pretty awesome they just go and say hey i need a couple bucket full of uh of rocks for filtering and they'll help you out and it's a lot cheaper than buying it by the bag which is about five bucks a bag something like that depending on what you can find and to fill a four foot you know you're not going to fill it all the way to the top obviously basically what you want is you're going to fill this hole to the bottom of that bucket so i'm going to throw some in there and then we'll take a look and i'll show you how what it looks like all right guys so this is what it looks like installed so the rocks are underneath the bucket the bucket just sits on top like that i happen to put a handle on mine just for ease of lifting it that hole right there you don't need i just have it so if i'm lazy i want to mix it up i just i usually will have a rock on top of it you know just to cover it but if i want to make turn things up i'll put the hose in there just turn stuff up but that's not necessary uh so here's the bucket here's the inside of it there's the overflow tube so essentially the water put about a gallon or two of water in there and then put the uh digestive enzymes in there give it about a few hours for it to multiply it multiplies like every 30 minutes or something like that so let me show you what the stuff is um so here is what they'll try to sell you and this is like i forget what this was but it's about 14 15 bucks i don't remember but essentially they call it super digester concentrate blah blah blah essentially this stuff is just uh kind of like the same stuff as red x and any septic tank enzymes so here's the other one super dually waste digester excuse the fan that just kicked on so i bought this big old tub online uh and when you break down the cost this was just way cheaper than buying that little tub because you're you're paying for the advertising most of the time so check it out same stuff same stuff same stuff get a lot more of it do an internet a web search of you know super dually waste digester it works it works well for me this is what i had bought originally and this lasts me quite a while too but honestly you know the dogs depending on how many you have i get that that's going to last me years so it is what it is get whatever's best for you and all you have to do now is uh add about a couple tablespoons of that stuff into your bucket digester whatever the heck you want to call it i call it the little doggy septic system let's get about you know so that's way over two tablespoons but just to get it started you know i'll pour some in there let it do its job and in a few hours that stuff will have multiplied and uh we can add some dog waste and uh every time you add some dog waste in there it's a good idea to add some more water maybe about a gallon of water each time or more or less i mean you can eyeball it see how fast it's dissolving for you one of the things to consider is try to not put poop that's got just like a ton of stuff stuck to it uh organic stuff or you know dirt rocks because that will build up remember this bucket has a bottom so if you keep adding dog poop that's just you know full of crud all that stuff is going to stay in this bucket so eventually you will have to clear it out but as far as the dog poop itself it will get digested away the water as you add more water the level will come up rise rise rise and eventually to overflow and right down this tube is where at the very bottom are the river rocks and it goes about it's about 17 inches high so and this hole is about uh 48 inches deep so you do the math because i'm too tired to do it um and that's the water overflows and by then it's already been digested it's just liquid form goes through here goes through the rocks back into the soil and uh you know it disappears and no more trash bags no more stinky mess um you know some people will say it smells um and when you're first starting out it may a little bit but honestly once you get that uh let it do its job and if you're up keeping it correctly it doesn't smell it should be fine um so my dogs are not allowed to poop on the yard so this is their little poopy area so essentially i'll scoop it up in there my pooper scooper shake it out no dirt rocks or whatever bring it over here plop there you go throw it in there add some water cover it up and about once a week i usually do it every every weekend i'll add another couple tablespoons uh depending on you can look online do your research on how many dogs you have and what it recommends um for your in your particular case uh and again this is just starting so that's what's got such a low amount of water but uh once it starts going i'll put some more poop in there add some more water essentially what you're gonna see is it's gonna be full right it'll be up to this overflow pipe um and you're just gonna keep on adding to it and it'll be getting eaten up by the uh by the enzymes the bacteria and whatnot and then it'll just overflow going to the ground it's gone and that is all there is to it uh one thing to consider if you have small children make sure that you get a lid that's going to fit tightly on top of the bucket you don't want your kids you know playing with that falling in and whatnot so put it away from your house away from your garden everybody tells you that in every single video i've seen so we'll see how this goes and then i'll update uh later on during the year see how it goes but that's pretty much it um and there it is hopefully no more bagging poop now the the the previous one that i had was the one had the bucket with the bottom cut out and the holes on the side that was about right there and again it did last uh about it under a year and it essentially just built up and i had to remove it dig it out remove it and then i saw the reason i did this one in case you want to know is because i did some research uh on what a real septic tank does and essentially this is what it does you know what i mean like it'll go from your house into underneath if you have a septic tank and then the uh it'll settle you put some sort of septic tank treatment in there breaks down the uh the the waste liquefies it and it just kind of goes out into a leech field and dissipates and that's essentially what we're doing here on a smaller scale and yeah just build it to suit your own needs and we'll see how it goes so i'll keep you posted
