DISASTER AT DUSK!! SAIL FAIL on arrival in Cyprus (Ep 231)

oh my gosh it's gonna be horrible I don't know how we're gonna get to sell we may have to take the sail all the way down I'm a little pissed off right now but because they're not people of integrity at lemon salt Marina I would challenge everybody don't go there last week we left Israel and the Red Sea and crossed the Suez Canal since the weather in the med changed a bit and we got positive information about Cyprus we changed course and instead of heading to Turkey After exiting the canal we headed north to the island of Cyprus we made it through the canal this is an easy Canal across so easy we are going to hopefully be a Cypress by there too so here we go [Music] [Music] foreign the first eight hours of this journey were really easy smooth sailing with no engines light wind and waves on the port beam and a gorgeous sunset but we knew the weather was going to turn predict wind forecasted heavier winds coming on during the night and the fetch was sure to follow by the next morning we had 30 knot winds bringing huge swells and waves crashing up on our beam thank you the big blue arrow in the middle shows the three knot current pushing against our port beam as well as the wind and waves coming from that side so even though we've got a boat speed of almost 10 knots we're only making eight knots speed over ground which we're still making good time but it's pretty uncomfortable and luckily only nine hours left to go cold very it is chilly the grill fell I had to pick it up it made a big mess what are you doing what are you watching is it good all right cool how was your shoes asleep at all like afterwards really yeah all night oh my gosh me and Dad couldn't sleep at all so rough literally sleep through it I don't I just lay there and tossed and turned he said so loud downstairs I try to sleep but it's really hard it's so loud everything bangs it makes you think the whole ship has fallen apart it's just rusting I will not be cooking anything today we just grab something crab chips or throw a sandwich together or whatever we've only got six hours till we get there so it's good let's go how are you feeling I'm good good are you nauseous at all no no are you excited to go to Cyprus yes yeah are you just playing chess um against the computer [Music] and do you win let's make you feel better about yourself that you went against a computer okay always what are we doing what's going on here no we're going back upstairs I guess there's something in front of us we're fixing to run into it oh I don't know what it is I just see it on the radar really let's go check it out see it cold out here do nothing is there a little Squatch I guess right there he just doesn't have aif on is that what you're talking about that blob yeah one more time this is sailing vessel zatara what can I do for yourself we are about uh I'm five miles out we are coming in we'd like to uh we're a family of five the American Americans on an American boat we like to uh come into the country check in and stay for a while is that okay Marina no we were just going to anchor anchor in between the port and the marina okay so we just have to check into the marina for one night and then uh and then we can go out to Anchor after we do formalities with customs and immigration is that correct and Ultra tea is then the Cyber Sports Authority there's some sorts of supply for the use of the Anchorage you have to know that okay uh well I don't know that I can get into the marina tonight so I will call them and see if they have a spot to find Roger that interesting in the in the cooking folks yeah unlike everywhere else we've been there are no check-in or immigration fees to enter the country which is great however the only protected place to check in on the south side of the island is at the Limassol Marina and the marina won't let you ding in they require you to bring your vessel into a berth and pay their 200 a night birthing fee so it's 400 bucks to enter the country here 200 N and 200 out and unfortunately this is all new information now that we've just arrived foreign so something just happened the ear stripped something stopped working that Furler stopped working further can we sail up there so they're gonna have to get the sale in manually somehow or I don't know how we're gonna get the sale we may have to take the cell all the way down manually you have to pull it out of the Burling yeah yeah you said they're smooth sailing we don't have a it's the one in the in the thing that spins yeah like how the sail is connected I think that we're going to do is we're gonna pull the main down you know me what happened stripped all the gears out of it no just too much load on it the thing is there's places where we can get parts and how are we gonna get the sail down well that's what we're gonna try to look at here in a second thank you all right try to roll it up man [Music] one more all right into the lead we're in the lead oh okay yeah I mean we can't we can do it on anchor we can do it I mean this is nice right here I want to come straight through that pass out there accelerate we can't go over there because that's a will come soon and uh things should start to warm up but the water is really really cold so I don't know how much water activities we'll be doing lately I won't be doing any okay are you ready to go look at that so yeah we're tying it up just gonna leave it here uh and hopefully she doesn't really magically blow away this is we'll send you out in the morning to swim for it no I'm sleeping in until 12. oh no I don't know we gotta go check in I don't know what that looks like I mean so where we gotta go or how early good job Jack we got her done and it's dark out okay is it possible to clear customs and immigrations without having to go to the marina can I do that at the port or through you guys would say if you decide tomorrow [Applause] use of the Anchorage but you can use your tender in order to go inside the marina for going through the formalities with the office to the Immigration and Customs over there okay thank you very much that that helps a lot thank you so much for spin [Applause] [Applause] so say that's the gears inside there stripped so the big issue here though is I can't pull this apart without taking this whole foil and everything down so I'm gonna have to take the stay off and everything and then I got to find out if they even still make Parts this is lasted 17 years so that's 17 years old that's 17 years old so I mean it's lasted a long time yeah so it's it's a so here's the issue if I get if I can get a parts for this so that gear that's around this foil because that's what stripped I think is the gear that's around the foil that causes this to turn and so if I can get parts for that I still got to pick this whole foil and the head State or the head stay down which is a big project if I can't get parts for this then that means I got to buy probably all new foil new electric thing and then that's probably a fifteen twenty thousand dollar deal so let's hope profural is on the ball here and they've got parts for this but being 17 years old and then the bigger issues I'm gonna have to be in a boat yard or I'm gonna have to be at a marina to take this down this is a big deal to take a hit stay down so yay yay is there not an updated newer version oh yeah yeah that's the 15 20 000 deal well it's all good we moved into the marina to check in and they've given us a quote for 799 Euros for a month's stay so we decided it was more economical to book the birth for a month rather than just the two nights to check in and check out and it would give us a safe place to come back to as we explore the island in anchorages for the next four weeks foreign I thought we did one in Florida on the grass remember that yeah Florida that was a Mainsail sport right after we bought the boat I think it was one of those racing sales or something yeah that was on the NFL yeah and then we did one with uh Marsden Cove and the grass there yeah Anna was with us and that was the other answer yeah the anti-fail guy was helping us what'd you find out yesterday about the part to fix it back to me because it's everything's closed it's Saturday Sunday we got a peripheral he read my text but I put on he didn't respond foreign [Applause] all right what's wrong I just got back from the office of paying the bill and they're charging us 951 dollars for the month no not for the month for the week and a week when we left Syed we got a quote for 800 plus vat which is 900 for a month right and so we knew it was gonna cost two hundred dollars check in just the birth and then 200 to check out because the Merino charges that even though the the port says you can come in here and you're dinghy the marina doesn't do that so I'm just I'm a little pissed off right now because I sell two and a half days or two days to get up here and now they're charging us for a week and so we're only going to stay a week here now in Cyprus because I'm not going to spend three thousand dollars for a berth uh to go explore Cyprus and hang around Cyprus it's not gonna happen no go talk to him son you got it in writing I did I said I sent him email I sent a email I sent him a quote I sent them everything and they just uh they told me we made a mistake well mistakes have consequences so figured out all right I figured out what are we gonna do about this guy well can we go to Turkey without it we can we get downwind yeah I just checked the weather window because we're gonna have to leave the Marine in a week so we're gonna have to go without a head cell in the parts but we can make it to Turkey it's 160 miles the wind's gonna be in our favor and I've sent an email to Pro we're going to find out what kind of customer service profile has and uh let's see that'll work out things tend to come in threes I'm waiting for the third thing to hit we've we've got the Marine issue we've got the sale Pro for LSU now let's see what number three is oh no I'll say that oh my God why don't we just want to Anchor why do we gotta deal with the marina in the first place yeah so normally that's what we do but this time of year in in the Mediterranean space is the spring and so you have easterly winds and Westerly winds that change every couple of days and so finding a protected Anchorage is where you're safe from the East and the West Winds can be difficult and challenging at best and then protected from the ocean swell that because these Seas get stirred up really hard because the winds will blow 20 25 30 knots from both directions over the course of a couple days so it gets kind of gnarly out here and so it's uh that's the reason we don't go out and just spend four weeks on anchor for free because it's tough right now this time of year we're a little early into the Mediterranean there is another Marina up that tapos or something yeah but it's too shallow for our boat to get in and it's too small so that's the reason we're not going to go there we got a big boat yeah so that's that's why we chose the marina to kind of rest in for a second yeah yeah we rented a car and we're gonna go do a doodling here on the island of Cyprus oh that's the driver's side oopsies and I'll get on this side we're in a we're in a European country I suppose the drive on the right side of the car as far as they go okay thank you all right so the Marine has turned out to be kind of the Fiasco lamisaw Marina you know you think that people would honor their word and be be people of Integrity character and we got a quote from uh the marina before we left Port Syed in Egypt because we were going to go to Turkey and they said no you can come stay in our Marina for uh for uh 800 a month and so we thought we'd come here for a month spend a month here in Cyprus when we got here uh we called them up today we're going to come in and they said no it's going to be uh three thousand dollars a month or 2800 a month it was right there at the three thousand dollar mark and I'm like no I have a quote for 800 a month and they said no that was a mistake uh We're Not Gonna honor that sorry after we'd already selled 500 you know two three days to get here and then they do that to us and and so uh that was very discouraging very very discouraging and then and then they also have a gig going here where in the lemon salt area I mean Renee talked about on the video a little bit about uh you can't just bring your dinghy in and check in in the marina they're going to charge you 160 or 190 200 a night for one day to check in to use their dog check in do the formalities then go back out so that's it's not Cruiser friendly at all yeah um well and we're gonna stay a week now instead of a month but we're still gonna yeah we're spending 800 so I I challenge all of you guys don't go to Lemon star Marina and not not because of what it costs but because they don't honor their word exactly and you don't want to you know 200 a day for a boat like mine in a marina in the Mediterranean that's expensive that's on the high and not it's not on the high end in Italy or France or those kind of places but this is the slow end the low end of a tourist season here and they gave you a quote in writing and they gave it in writing and they didn't honor that and we made a choice based on that quote to come here and so because they're not people of integrity at lemon salt Marina I would challenge everybody don't go there just just don't do it you go to the north side and check in yeah there's prices up there there's probably other better places to check in and that just don't don't try to uh do their thing [Music] foreign [Music] down at the bottom of Cypress it's nice and warm ish tropical Sunny you come up this mountain we're going up here in the car and there's snow and it's four degrees it's ridiculous one of these things well that's like what 35 yeah uh Fahrenheit close to 439 close to freezer look at all the snow it's snowing it's snowing right now I feel like we're in Montana how does that feel how does it feel to put your feet in the sand the sand you look so pretty in the snow I know right increase I'm like I am yeah this is quite a stark difference from the Middle East where we've been for the last six months what does this number say I'm not young enough uh 1907 was that the 1900s we're 1900 meters up so this is not the right attire to be wearing right now we got shorts on I brought flip-flops
