I'm glad the moderator is staying out of the conversation and just let's the Directors just talk and play off each other. This is a very good segment and I could say it's one of the few that actually feels genuine. Too many of these where the moderator interrupts and disrupts chemistry really ruins the potential of the segment.
I thought that the conversation about Netflix was nicely nuanced. Scorsese talking about embracing the technology, Bambauch talking about how Netflix has been willing to play movies longer in theatres, and Wang talking about how she recognizes that Netflix is a brand that cares about having names and not necessarily about the art.
Im only fifteen minutes in but this is the best roundtable with directors Iβve seen from Hollywood Reporter.
Great diverse cast of filmmakers and lengthy discussions into multiple aspects of the film industry, Cool stuff.
Too bad Bong Joon Ho isnβt here.
Anyone else hear Todd say to Greta that he's getting annoyed by Lulu Wang around 54:35? It sounds like something like, "This is what I'm talking about, I'm getting annoyed with her here" after she's been talking for a while.
"The Hangover things"
When Scorsese stood up and said "You see all these awards the fame and fans, I'd give it up in a heartbeat for a kid like you" and hugged Todd Philips I was stunned and moved at how powerful the moment was.
Obviously Todd knows what hes doing, but christ the first time he talks in this is to pretty much mansplain Lulu's point lol...
She goes super in depth in her reasoning, and then Phillips just jumps in before she even finished saying, "I think what Lulu is saying...(cont.)"
lolwtf
A bit uncomfortable with the empty space between Lulu Wang and Todd Phillips, I wish Tarantino were there
