all right I know what you Paleo friends are about to say well because the 100,000 subscriber t-rex feather video is taking much longer than expected hopefully they'll be out within a week I thought I would do a much shorter quicker video about cryptozoology for you guys again because it seems like a lot of people really like the Mothman video so please be patient the t-rex video will be out soon and also paleo profile will be returning directly after the t-rex vid okie dokie today we are examining another rather obscure cryptid from West Virginia that is actually rather similar to Mothman in many respects the flatwoods monster dang West Virginia what's up with your monsters and good news fellow skeptic our good friend Joe Nickell same guy that did the extensive research regarding the similar case of Mothman did again a rather extensive and extremely interesting and helpful examination of this case in his book such as the mystery chronicles real-life x-files so go support him because his books and research really helped this video so let's dive in what is the flatwoods monster when one takes exit 67 on the West Virginia 79 interstate they will come across the quaint village of flatwoods West Virginia snuggled in the hills population 276 and once within the town's borders they will be greeted by a sign that reads welcome to flatwoods home of the Green Monster this sign references a terrifying encounter with an alleged creature made over 60 years ago the story if I could describe the flatwoods monster encounter in two words it would be confusing and uncertain the story of the flatwoods monster is an extensive and at times very confusing one and many of the eyewitnesses have differences and accounts and the internet really hasn't helped by supplying a large amount of misinformation figure that the internet lies I'm so surprised so anyways let's just start from the beginning it all happened one night on September 12th 1952 it was 7:15 p.m. on a Friday night when two brothers Edward May age 13 and Fred May age 12 and their friend Tommy hire aged 10 were playing a game of football on the school playground when all of a sudden they allegedly bore whit as two bright objects streaking across the sky the object was only vividly described by the boys as a fireball flying through the sky the boys say it apparently landed on a hilltop belonging to a local farmer G Bailey Fisher the three boys frightened by the object in the sky were in back to Edward and Fred's mother claiming it was a flying saucer that landed on mr. Fisher's property miss Kathleen may a former teacher and at the time a beauty shop operator gathered a group of six young boys including her own children to basically trespass on mr. Fisher's property without his permission and they apparently had to climb a fence to get there the group consisted of Miss May Edward and Fred Mae Tommy hire local boy Neil Nunley age 14 Ronnie shaver age 10 in seventeen-year-old West Virginia National Guardsman Eugene gene lemon the group traveled to the Fisher farm in an effort to locate whatever the boys had seen the oldest of the boys gene lemon equipped with the flashlight led the party lemon also brought his dog in search of the object there are many might I add contradictory versions of what happened next after traveling about 1/4 of a mile the group reached the top of the hill UFO writer Graybar Kerr was one of the first people to interview members of the group and wrote an article for fate magazine on the subject he noted that Neel Nunley described as the least emotional group was apparently leading the group although he didn't have the flashlight Nunley saw a large pulsating ball of fire about fifty feet to their right rather strangely no other member of the group rec Alexis neither does the Braxton County newspaper published September 14th two days after the report an even paranormal writer Ivan T Sanderson who interviewed members of the group in 1967 says they disagreed violently on their interpretation of this object hmm maybe it never existed anyways gene lemon didn't describe this ball of fire at all instead he and other members of the group such as miss mae described it they all came across two small shining red animal eyes in an oak tree and lemon and may were both quoted in the newspapers at first thought thinking they belong to a possum or a raccoon in a tree lemon used his flashlight to shine on these eyes and was reportedly frightened to finally belong to a ten-foot monster with a red face in a green body that seemed to glow the light revealed a towering man-like figure with a circular red face surrounded by a pointed hood like shape which was described similar to an ace of spades the hood itself is often described somewhere to a cow lean or shaped like a sideways diamond between all eyewitnesses the area below the head is always described with considerably less clarity and less confidence and most the differences between the reports can be found here notice why the original sketches do not depict the area below the head Barker reports descriptions from the waist down are vague most of the seven said this part of the figure was not under view suggesting few even saw the lower half but from those that did the body itself was described as dark and in some accounts colorless obscured by the darkness but later accounts would say that it was green in color and miss may reported it had draped like folds according to Barker in 1953 not all agreed that the monster had arms but Miss Mae described it had terrible claws Ivan Sanderson another investigator in 1967 cites the witnesses observed the creature had small claw-like hands as extended in front of it Nunley one of the more fantastical members of the group claimed that it glowed from within and was illuminated partially by the fiery red object described before he described its face was an orange e in color all right so after seeing the creature it reportedly produced a Cyrillic hissing noise before gliding towards them with a bounding motion it apparently levitated above the ground although no report officially states this and mostly hints towards this idea police also know that reports on size varied as later reports to police claimed that the monster was 7 feet tall - 17 feet tall within 24 hours it is important to note that all eyewitnesses only had an extremely brief glimpse of the creature miss Mae estimated one or a few more seconds due to lemon dropping the flashlight in the rest of the group running away in panic it is also very important to remember that it was extremely dark with only one source of light being the one flashlight that they brought Lee reports in a newspaper agree that there was an overpowering smell or odor that burned the nostrils and made them sick several members of the Pawnee fainted and felt sick and nauseated several hours after the incident symptoms of this illness included irritation of the nose and swelling of the throat Lemmon suffered from vomiting and convulsions throughout the night and had difficulties with his throat for several weeks afterwards these illnesses were later attributed to mist or gas emitted from the monster that was reported by some members but only after the first news report was published after running away from the supposed monster the group made a mad dash back down the hill and directly when they reached the may house miss maid contacted the sheriff Robert Carr and a deputy named Vern along who funny enough both came from investigating a reported airplane crash the to searched the site but saw heard and smelled nothing and also were said to be skeptical of the situation miss Mae also contacted mr. a Lee Stewart co-owner of the Braxton Democrat a local newspaper to investigate a report on the event the two parties came separately and independently mr. Stewart who I rather strangely have found two ways to spell his name found evidence contradictory to the police he reported finding there was a sickening burnt metallic odor still prevailing that evening news spread of the incident and local max Lockhart also went to the scene of the crime that night in his black 1942 Chevrolet pickup truck finding nothing at seven o'clock the next day mr. Stewart returned to the area and reported finding two parallel skid marks in a tall meadow grass between the spot of where the monster was seen in the area where the red pulsating light that Neill cited he also saw traces of an oil or an odd gummy deposit Stewart claimed this was evidence of a UFO landing these tracks and oily substance was not recorded by any of the eyewitnesses police locals nor even Stewart himself last night later studies would reveal that the oil and tracks belong to max loch ards chevrolet pickup which miss distort hadn't seen and was at the crime scene hours prior interviews between Joe Nickell and max would later confirm this and that's where Miss May and the children's story ends the story was highly publicized by newspapers and magazines the creature the group encountered was given the name the flatwoods monster Braxton County monster or the Phantom of flatwoods gray Barker reported extensively on the case and he would later write a book on it in 1953 after the fact books and magazines rather suddenly describe the appearance of the creature being the exterior of a metallic space - protecting a reptilian alien inside I couldn't find any reports by the original party describing it as having a metallic or shiny exterior and I most definitely confined any reports of the creature being reptilian it seems like the monster being a robot or metal armor was entirely created by the hype in pop culture centered around the event and not actually by the witnesses directly after the publication hype of the monster consequently tons of reports from surrounding areas of differing descriptions hmm kind of reminds me of another West Virginia cryptid started to pour in after the event mr. William and Donna Smith investigators associated with a civilian saucer investigation in LA associated a number of accounts from eyewitnesses who claimed to have experienced a similar or related phenomenon these accounts include the story of a mother and her 21 year old daughter who claimed to have encountered a creature with the same appearance and odor a week prior to the September 12th incident but decided not to report it also report from the director of the local Board of Education claimed to have seen a flying saucer taking off at 6:30 a.m. on September 13th the morning after the creature was sighted and also decided not to report it until after the monster gained attention hmm I also feel like these accounts are rather unreliable as they only come from one internet source civilian saucer investigation whom I believed might be a little biased to the existence of UFOs and also I find the fact various eyewitnesses cited don't even have real names is suspicious to make things even more confusing a rather infamous account was reported by an unidentified person in the nearby town of frame town West Virginia who described the upper half of the creature being that of a reptilian humanoid in the bottom half being that of flatwoods monster this fawn idea that the original monster was wearing a helmet and suit in this account was a glimpse of the creature underneath this again unreliable account was made after the place' t and his entirely contradictory to the first accounts for this reason i believe this version was probably completely made up by someone who botched a sci-fi film and just wanted to get famous and is entirely unconnected a man by the name of Frank fascino seems very fond of this ID Iain has written a book trying to connect this guy to the original Frank is probably one of the more avid flatwoods monster supporters and seems to be strongly under the impression that the flatwoods monster is a lizard man inside a metallic suit even though the original eyewitnesses testimony contrast this this version of the monster was perpetuated in 2010 by the TV show monster quest which claimed that this creature was the same as the flatwoods monster Wow somebody who didn't skip arm day I have read that Frank was greatly involved in this episode titled lizard monster and seems to have put more focus on his depiction and not the original the lizard monster thing seems to be entirely fabricated not at all having anything to do with the 1952 account I also found evidence online from a cryptid blog post that once again our good friend Frank supposedly released secret unheard I witnesses testimony from Miss May which he supposedly made in 1991 in released in 2014 in contrast to original count over 60 years later May describes an entirely different monster that is much more metallic and robot-like and having a never before heard sulfur smell in this never-before-heard account the monster was more mechanical than flesh and was some sort of hovercraft or encounter suit as described by me and seems to be heavily influenced by the incorrect depictions made by pop culture made after the original in 1952 miss may also stated that what she had seen wasn't a monster but rather a secret plane the government was working on again this is in contrast to what she originally said entirely why thy Witnesses have randomly changed their story after decades I have no idea and why this never before heard evidence made by Frank only seems to support Frank's pre-existing depiction of the original I don't know I personally consider many if not all of the reports after the original are simply fake copycat accounts entirely fabricated to get attention similar to Mothman I'm sorry Frank and others I don't believe ya the flatwoods monster description and design became a smash hit in pop culture and inspired and influenced everything from Legend of Zelda's Majora's Mask to adventure times grab gob glob and Grodd and well that's about it we really only have one brief account of the creature with the vivid descriptions and no physical evidence whatsoever I can't help but notice the many similarities to Mothman which was reported 14 years later in the same state I of course do not think there are any connections between the two reports I I am most definitely not saying they are the same creature but I would just like to highlight the similarities in the reactions by the pop culture in both stories and animals briefly seen in the dark eyewitnesses only give a vague description that is reported to newspapers and after getting famous tons of suppose it accounts with contradictory descriptions start pouring in does the flatwoods monster exist alrighty let's get down to business my answer is no for similar reasons to Mothman I consider the fwm or flatwoods monster that's really stupid I just made that up was just a creation of hype confusion and misidentification so just like in the previous video let me explain in detail show me the evidence again just like Mothman absolutely zero physical evidence exists we got no footprints got no photos we got no video nothing everything that physically happened can be easily explained the supposed oil and tracks where again belong to max loch ards truck even max tried to explain this to mr. Stuart but Stuart wouldn't listen the reported bad odor supposedly produced by the monster was never described by anyone other than eyewitnesses a mr. Stuart skeptic Ivan Sanderson noticed the strange smell in the grass in 1967 but stated it was almost surely derived from a kind of grass that abounds in the area he added we found this grass growing all over the country and it always smelt the same though perhaps not as strongly Ivan concluded that the smell was nothing but the natural smell of the grass in the area and most definitely not caused by anything paranormal and what about the illnesses and sicknesses reported after the encounter Air Force investigators had conclude the boy's illnesses was a physical effect brought on by their fright undeniably gene lemon the worse affected had seemed the most frightened he had shrieked with terror and fallen backward dropping his flashlight and later a pair to greatly terrified to talk coherently a doctor also concluded such symptoms are also commonly found in sufferers of hysteria which can be brought on by exposure to a traumatic or shocking event the flatwoods sickness was obviously just symptoms of shock due to the frightening experience in a strange miss obviously it was the beginning stage of what the sheriff subsequently noticed on his first arrival a fog that was settling over the hill so really we have absolutely no physical evidence in this case just scared eyewitness reports and even those have issues this has nothing to do with a meteor now before people start yelling at me freaking forgot to talk about the meteor frickin yes a bright object was reported to have fallen out of the sky that night but it definitely wasn't a UFO or flying saucer as described by the comic book loving children virtually everybody in the town closed towns in at least three other states of Maryland Pennsylvania and West Virginia saw the same object and guess what everybody recognized as a meteor in fact according to a formal local newspaper editor there is no doubt that a meteor of considerable proportion flashed across the heavens that Friday night since it was visible in at least three other states Maryland Pennsylvania and West Virginia major keyhole and Air Force intelligence investigating the flatwoods encounter seemingly sent two men in civilian clothes to flatwoods posing as magazine writers and they determined that the UFO had been a meteor that merely appeared to land when it disappeared over the hill and apparently that same allusion also deceived a man approximately ten miles southwest of flatwoods who reported that an aircraft had gone down in flames on the side of the wooded hill yes remember that story the sheriff and deputy had investigated that night without finding anything before arriving at the flatwoods site yes this is the same thing keyhole sources told him that several unnamed astronomers had concluded that the UFO was indeed a meteor as well a staff member of the Maryland Academy of Sciences announced that a meteor had passed over Baltimore at 7 p.m. on September 12th traveling at a height of from 60 to 70 miles it was on a trajectory towards West Virginia where the saucer was sighted minutes later so I it turns out the supposed UFO was actually just a naturally occurring meteor and not a flying saucer at all and it definitely didn't crash land on the hilltop due to just being an illusion that fooled people other than the children and also the fact no evidence of such was found at the area we have absolutely no reason to believe the meteorite in this monster are connected what clearly happened here is some children who are fans of comic books and sci-fi movies saw something that looked like a UFO and just assumed it was going to the mother they decided to go into the woods in search of an alien and just assume the next scary thing they saw was an alien what I think is going on here is the meteor just influenced the perceptions of these children and what they saw had nothing to do with the meteor at all bad eyewitnesses in bad conditions now when we look at all the descriptions created by the eyewitnesses we can find many variations between people and a lot of these inconsistencies to me make them somewhat unreliable as aborted by Ivan the witnesses violently disagreed on many of the descriptions particularly the area below the head miss may said it had claw like arms while others didn't see arms at all some reported the lower half was black and colorless well miss Mei claims it was Green Miss me alone believes that the creature had a skirt or curtain like lower half well nobody else saw this once again Neil describes an entirely different report of what happened seeing a flaming object was at the scene too even though no other member reported this we also have to note the strange differences in size given to police from seven feet tall to ten feet tall a 17 feet tall to 10 feet tall again nonetheless it appears all eyewitnesses agree on the head as I'll describe the same spade-shaped head with an orange to red color then again this is a very basic shape and could have easily been discussed afterward and what one person saw could have influenced what other people thought they saw after the fact the fact miss May says they only saw a quick two-second glimpse of the creature in the dark and the fact they all have differences and what it looked like one can easily just choke this up to eyewitnesses seeing a familiar animal that was misidentified in the board dark conditions by frightened children who might I add were already scared by seeing the meteor which they perceived as a UFO flying through the sky let's just say these frightened eyewitnesses and their disjointed descriptions made in poor conditions aren't the most reliable what I find rather odd is miss may's lack of responsibility if she and the children really believed a UFO was here and landed possibly being a danger why would she bring her own and other parents children to the unknown possibly alien object possibly endangering their lives not to mention she intruded on her neighbor's land to do so climbing a fence with I quote some difficulty hmm mother of the year leads children too dangerous UFO landing site I don't know that's just me bad influences and confirmation bias and here's where most of my case on why the flatwoods monster doesn't exist is and it lies mostly on psychology and the perceptions and influences of the people who supposedly saw the monster now throughout my studies i believe i found the origin of the flatwoods monster oh not to the children that encountered it on that night in September but a comic book released less than a month before the monster was ever even seen let me show you this guy this is the cover of galaxy science fiction magazine published August 1952 the cover artwork was created by Edie M Schwimmer and depicts a race of aliens that live among humanity I believe this is where the flatwoods monster actually originates from I say this because our buddy flatwoods pays a remarkable and startling resemblance to these aliens seen in galaxy science fiction's magazine just look at the helmet shape the small circular head inside and the two large eyes it is also important to note this magazine came out less than one month before the flatwoods monster was reported that's right this comic was released in August 1952 and the flatwoods monster was seen in September of the same year a month later I believe these kids saw this alien on the cover and unknowingly applied it to real life now let us just get an understanding of what it was like to live in the 1950s America between the 1950s and 1960s was the alien phase of America aliens were everywhere in pop culture in and children were obsessed with science fiction movies and comic books big eyed helmet wearing aliens were everywhere from lunchboxes to cartoons to comic books and at this point in time children and teens were more familiar with pop culture fictionalized aliens than actual real animals and what I think is happening here is a classic case of confirmation bias confirmation bias is a psychological effect that is a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one preconceptions leading to statistical errors or in short seeing what you want to see a good video exists by Vsauce discussing this phenomenon Joe Nickell I think describes us best in his interview with Monster quest expectant attention that is if you've got a mindset if you're if you're expecting to see something that will affect what you see you bet they were apprehensive sure they were they were psyched up and so when they see something then as frightening some shining eyes in the dark and it in that quick comes at them I don't think they had time to think but but simply to react and they reacted perfectly naturally they panicked sure if you go looking for a monster and see something the least bit resembling the monster you will claim it as a monster with confirmation bias the human mind will distort information based on your emotional state such as appearance incorrectly just to fit preconceived ideas a great and famous example of this is the dancing Spider Man animation that seemingly dances to every song the only reason why it appears that way is because the human mind is naturally ignoring all the times the dancing Spider Man does not sync up to the song just to fit preconceived notions that it will always fit I believe confirmation bias can be easily exhibited in the case of flatwoods monster all these boys and possibly miss May are definitely influenced by pop culture at the time it's the 1950s aliens are everywhere and now suddenly these little boys see a meteor flying out of this I a site none of them have ever seen outside of comic books and movies they suddenly run to investigate with the help of their friends and mother all of them go into the situation with the preconceived notion a UFO is just landed and aliens are real and these dark scary woods their imaginations are already taking hold of the terrifying situation they are frightening unknowingly searching for something dangerous and something alien confirmation bias takes over and then suddenly they spot something that has red eyes and looks somewhat human their expectations are confirmed it is something that resembles an alien they run scared assuming it was an alien or monster scared they distort and apply traits common with that of aliens and pop culture to the thing they just briefly saw you start to exaggerate the description seen in the flash of an image one boy or several think of a comic book cover they saw recently and thus this shape is unknown Lee applied to the dark obscured thing they just saw as a result of confirmation bias and emotional distortion towards the pre-existing notion of what they just saw was indeed an alien simply based on how closely the flatwoods monster resembles fictionalized aliens and comic books and movies at the time probably commonly seen by the eye witnesses along with the preconceived belief that what they are about to find was an alien brought on by the unfamiliar site of a meteor I think this entire situation is simply a case of people only seeing what they wanted to see then what was it idiot okay many of the traits seemed to just be exaggerations of an object brought on by hysteria and confirmation bias then what did they really see i Joe Nickell and many other skeptics believe me and the gang just saw a known animal that just appeared like something more frightening in poor conditions a barn owl I think it goes without saying the flatwoods monster or at least the head in top half most resembles a barn owl barn owls are very common in the area hence the name they're common in farm and countryside areas just like the flatwoods monster and are often found in woods just like the area where the monster was sighted the apparently glowing eyes is most likely a result of eye shine I went over this in my Mothman video the odd human-like shape of the head and body is very similar to that of a barn owl and the head shaped like an Ace of Spades is very similar to a barn owls to that how unlike claw arms that extended in front of the creature described by may could definitely be consisted of a raptor predatory bird the varnel is indeed relatively long-legged which may be terrifying and appear to be extended these arms could easily be misidentified feet grasping onto a tree limb and what about the lower half of the creature described so vividly a plant or a bush that was directly below the owl misidentified as part of the owl this explains why this section of the body was described in such more vivid detail some eyewitnesses thought it was part of the creature and some couldn't tell remember Barker's report descriptions from the waist down are vague most of the seven said the part of the figure was not under view these perceptions are consistent with an owl perched on a tree limb with a bush under it the Green described by Miss May could just be the colour of the leaves of this bush and the skirt lake shape was just the bush itself I and Joe Nickell believed the reason why this lower half is so vivid and unclear is because there wasn't a lower half and miss may just saw an illusion that appeared to be part of this real owl and what about the red face as well as aggressive behavior not exhibited normally in a barn owls now I know what you're about to say barn owls don't have red faces they all have white faces explain the red coloration than jerk well in short Joe knuckle I think made the best theory to solve this the flatwoods monster was a female barn owl protecting her young unlike the males and young female barn owls adult females have more orange Brown tawny coloration as opposed to the more common white this would explain the reddish orange colors described by members of the group and another reason why the flatwoods monster is a female is due to female barn owls being larger than males and the aggressive behavior can be explained as a brooding mother protecting her nest as it wasn't too late in the year to still have young and as it is common for owl mothers to be more aggressive when protecting young often hissing and when seriously threatened swooping down to attack this explains the scary hissing noise in the belief the monster was attacking them and probably the best evidence this was a barn owl mother was the location of this encounter in oak tree now barn owls do not create nests they actually brood their young within hollow trees and often an oak tree which are famous for being Hollow summary this is clearly a case of misidentification what I am and many other skeptics such as Joe Nickell believe is that on that night September 12th 1952 a meteor did travel across the sky in flatwoods West Virginia three boys fans of science fiction instantly believed it was an extraterrestrial on a UFO entering our atmosphere they gathered their friends and mom and went in search of this supposed alien they went up the hill looking for a monster the entire group frightened of what they would find and upon reaching the top they encountered a female Barnell with young the owl aggressive and threatening due to her trying to protect her young terrified the group with her scary and so on alien appearance these children unfamiliar with the appearance of a barn owl and afraid of what they just encountered associated it with the one thing that they were familiar with and had a similar appearance an alien and one or more members of the group recollected a magazine cover with a similar shaped alien and applied these familiar traits and characteristics to the unfamiliar appearance of the Barnell such as imagining the shape of the Owls head with a point and more like a helmet in the bush below it like the lower half of a body these distortions brought on by the extreme emotional trauma and confirmation bias of the encounter resulted in the flatwoods monster a hybrid between truth and imagination and monster bred out of a scary in a rational situation immediate it'd the rest the flatwoods monster was no monster at all just a mother doing her job me and several other skeptics believed that is what happened and based on all the evidence and lack thereof I think this case is closed faked but what if now in this section we picture the flatwoods monster is a real organism with its own evolution and while considering anything below the waist is rather unusable due to the poor conditions and the fact no living organism can levitate I am basing this guy from the waist up and decide to have a little bit of fun and creativity with this guy right when I saw the strange shovel shape of that face and head I instantly thought of the strange dorsal views of prehistoric and modern and phibian skulls such as cool asuka's and hellbenders and I believe the eye witnesses in my situation aren't seeing a human or an alien from the front but a quadrupedal one from the back or dorsal view leaning against a tree in my speculative Senay area the flatwoods monster is a species of salamander just mistaken to be humanoid and believe it or not this idea was actually based on and inspired by the real-life scientific mistake in 1726 an earlier paleontologist johann jakob shorter discovered this skeleton of a prehistoric and phibian with a similar-looking skull and although the differences are easy to spot - even a child Johan believed the skeleton belonged to human that died in the biblical flood of Noah's Ark I'm not kidding he believed this was a human child giving it the name homo de lluvia or man witness to the flood his mistake was quite creepily depicted by my man seemed Cosman in a terrifying drawing on if the skeleton actually did belong to a human so in this situation the flatwoods monster was mistakenly seen as a standing upright like human when in reality it was a large four-legged fabian leaning against a tree its forearms appearing like arms the top of its head appearing like the front the lower half not being seen in the dark and finally it's slimy shiny smooth reflective skin appearing like metallic armor or spacesuit - children in my speculative scenario the flatwoods monster is a member of Krypto bronty day otherwise known as the giant salamanders a group of huge amphibians represented by only three surviving members the modern Chinese salamander the largest being 5.9 feet long Japanese salamander 4.7 feet and the North American hellbender 2.4 feet they are the largest living and fibia n--'s known today and have an almost alien appearance one extinct member andrea stroyed caesarea originally homo de lluvia was indeed mistaken as a humanoid all members of the group are reportedly very difficult to find due to their habitat and behavior of standing completely still at the bottom of murky streams even the Chinese salamanders which can be up to 6 feet long are almost never spotted the hellbender is the only species that exists outside of Asia and actually can be found all around the eastern coast of North America such as West Virginia for this reason I chose the flatwoods monster to be a close relative of the North American hellbender the two sharing a common ancestor the flatwoods monster which I've given the name macros aphelion zoom translated to big-headed creature convergently evolved with its Asian cousins and filled the aquatic predator niche an areas too cold for crocodilians further north microcephaly ins evolved into seven footlong predators which spent majority of their time sitting at the bottom of rivers and streams in the mud preying on small fish and other amphibians such as their smaller cousins hellbenders and like the hellbender and Asian relatives this strategy made them very very hard to find and remain undetected by humans due to recent human fishing activity the macro sefa lien is almost extinct starve to death due to the competition for fish food and due to humans encroaching a macro selling habitat it was just a matter of time and encounter between them phibian and the mammals would occur alright thanks for watching tell me what you think the flatwoods monster was and if you believe the I witness is truly saw an unknown creature also suggest future cryptid profiles I'd love to make more and lastly stay tuned for the next paleontology video I've been trading explainer and thanks for watching
