for two ages of the sun Sauron had been the dark lord casting his shadow over Middle Earth The Immortal lord of the world holding dominion over Orcs goblins evil men and even Undead wraiths during his Reign kingdoms of men dwarves and elves were founded and destroyed civilizations Rose and fell and even all of Arda was reformed and all of it was the result of sauron's Reign of Terror untouchable all powerful immortal until he finally wasn't anymore the end of the third age also heralded the end of the dark lord is one ring destroyed and his physical body destroyed once again it was finally brought to the end of his power and even the last traces of his presence in Arda were almost completely destroyed and with this destruction so too fell the Empire of the second dark lord but was this really it was there to be no one to come after or was there someone to take up their Master's mantle and become the third dark lord take his place as the heir of Sauron [Music] welcome yard I'm happy to see so many of you gathered here again and I hope to see even more of you next time when we will look at Gandalf's lost Brethren the blue Wizards and what happened that made them be lost to the fog of History so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be reminded when the next episode starts and for those who want to support us outside of the subscriptions and free us from the whims of this platform we now also have a patreon where a few dollars allows you to join the istiar in Delhi and allows us to delve freely into the most ancient lore and bring you more stories that otherwise might be lost to time however this week we will prevent one such tale from being forgotten as we ask ourselves who was to become the heir of Sauron it was March the 25th in the 3019th year of the third age the one ring was destroyed in fires of mandu and sauron's vast Empire of Darkness perished with it for the dark lord had not only ruled over Mordor now great parts of Eastern and Southern Middle Earth had been under his influence for thousands of years forming an Empire far larger than any land pictured on the known map but with the fall of Sauron this entire Dominion collapsed as it was the immortal and almost divine power of sauron's dominating will that held together all the different people's tribes and Clans without their Master Orcs trolls and evil tribes of men fell each into their own pits of insignificance all the different human races and old tribes had hated and Ward with one another ever since the first moments of their existences but out of fear of Sauron and the greater aim of overrunning the even more hated Westlands they had been able to unite but now there was no higher goal that could quell the inner conflicts and enforced the tentative peace for as soon as they felt the weight of sauron's presence be lifted all of his remaining hordes began tearing each other to pieces in A desperate struggle for power territories and whatever Petty things plagued their minds many peoples in the east and south soon swore allegiance to Aragon the new High King of the reunited Kingdom and known among the former slaves of Sauron as the king who stood up to the dark lord and saw him destroyed what they knew had caused the dark lord Generations this human King had seen destroyed and so many of them yielded with barely or even without a fight thus in the decades that followed it was easy for Gondor and Rohan to advance deep into the enemy territories and spread the banner of the white tree so overwhelming was the might of the restored kingdoms of the dunadine that no orc troll or disheveled the easterling or Southern Chieftain could stand in defiance before them but what about those Servants of Sauron above the mere orcish War Boss or Manish tribal Chieftain but what about the Mouth of Sauron in Peter Jackson's retelling of the story we see the Mouth of Sauron be beheaded by Aragon in a moment of rage though in the red book of West March we read that this was not the case in fact it was when he boasted his possession of Sam's barrowblade a certain great cloak with an Elven brooch and Frodo's coat of mithril male that Gandalf finally snapped he cast back his cloak blinding the Mouth of Sauron with a white light of his new Incarnation and stole back the three possessions of the Lost Hobbits after which he cried his rejection and cursed him to be gone then the messenger of Mordor laughed no more his face was twisted with amazement and anger to the likeness of some wild beast that as it crouches on its prey is smitten on the muzzle with a stinging rod rage filled him and his mouth slavered and shapeless sounds of Fury came strangling from his throat but he looked at the foul faces of the captains and their deadly eyes and fear overcame his Wrath he gave a great cry and turned leaping upon his seed and with his company galloped madly back to kirith gongor but as they went his soldiers blew their horns in signals long arranged and even before they came to the gates Sauron sprung his trap that is the last we hear of him for as the battle in front of the black gate began Frodo and Sam reach the cracks of Doom and destroyed the One Ring breaking the might of Sauron and collapsing his realm baradur crumbled and fell the Nazgul perished in the fires of the erupting volcano and of the Mouth of Sauron highest of the Mortal Servants of the dark lord Sauron nothing more was ever written however that does not mean that he died there as well the lieutenants of the Tower of baradur might have been over 90 years old by then but he was an ordinary man before rising to his position he was one of the black numenoreans the most powerful of all the races of men on the sauron's Dominion and similar to the Dunedin in the North just like their Northern cousins these other Heirs of numenor had inherited their ancestors long life spans and to one of Pure numenorean Stock 90 years of age was like half of that to normal men death of old age would not come for him for quite some time and this fate would have been even less likely given the powers bestowed upon him by his late master and the Sauron he had been schooled in dark knowledge forbidden arts and sorcery not meant for Mortal human ears and by the time he fled the fields of moranon he might have been the wielder of one of sauron's lesser rings of power so if the Mouth of Sauron did indeed survive his master demise it is very likely that he became a leader and founder of black magic cults though as he was still mortal after all it would only be a sorry Remnant an ember of evil compared to sauron's Supernatural Reign of Terror such colds May well have survived far into the fourth age but it is extremely unlikely that they operated in secret and posed serious problems to the free peoples at least nothing noteworthy can be found of them in law that was given unto us yet if not one of the sort of named Servants of Sauron then who might why were there no other servants that would have been prepared to succeed Sauron should his time come to an end as he did at the end of the third age well the answer to that lies with Sauron himself as we all know he was in fact one of the Mayar an Angelic being who existed before the world itself began and as such he knew no aging time could not harm him quite the contrary even it offered his Immortal Spirit the chance to regenerate any lost power since Sauron never expected to lose everything in one Fell Swoop he felt it was pointless to create an air presumptive so far above his mortal servants he was that even the slightest hint of comparison would be utter lunacy Only The Immortal and Perpetual Nazgul might have been an exception but given how their immortality came from their cursed connection to the one ring and sauron's destruction could only come about through the destruction of that very same ring their potential as air presumptive is utterly Foy sins no known servants could truly usurp sauron's Legacy there is but one possibility left sauron's full successor would have had to be one of the same power and character as the dark lord himself he would have had to be also one of the Angelic Maya in addition to Sauron and Gandalf and the other history their ranks also included the balrogs and potentially sheilob and Scattered throughout the ranks of Sauron there had also been other though weaker corrupted Maya and some of them had certainly escaped the fall of Mordor so if one of them Rose or if there were another balrogue to emerge from the depths of the world he would certainly take up the legacy of Sauron and unite the hordes of evil once more he could never create an empire like saurons but it would be enough to sweep the Western lands back into Savage Wars once again and this might be more than just the hypothetical for talking himself upon completing the Lord of the Rings took down notes for another tale though it would be one that was soon abandoned it would have been over a hundred years since the destruction of the one ring and man would soon Tire of Peace especially among the young whose wild Natures mixed with a lack of knowledge of what war truly was peace would turn to boredom and the absence of danger would Sprout the desire to seek it out what once was history would turn into Legends and legends into myth and slowly dark holes would rise in mites once more spreading throughout Society one of these Cults the dark tree was led by heromor whose name literally means dark lord in quenya and of whom is spoken with a similar reverie as the Orcs once used when speaking of Sauron now not more than a few pages remain of this tale as Tolkien had never finished this story giving it up prematurely four as he stated in a letter to Father Douglas Carter he discover that the king's peace would contain no Tales worth recounting and his Wars would have little interest after the overthrow of Sauron but that almost certainly a restlessness would appear about them owing to thee it seems inevitable boredom of men with the so if no definitive is known about sauron's direct successor then is there anything known about sauron's eventual successor well in that regard Tolkien does give us a clear answer Sauron however was a problem that man had to deal with finally the first of the many concentrations of evil into definite PowerPoints that they would have to combat as it was also the last of those in mythological personalized but non-human form with the fourth age the age of men started and with that came the time for them to start writing down their history in Tales of their own devices magic and all things that they believe to be Supernatural or otherworldly were to disappear surviving only in ancient myths or the vaguest of children's stories after Sauron there would be no new god-like dark lord no balrog would suddenly emerge no dragon would take to the skies and any remaining dark beings would eventually perish however the E will have Sauron and his master morgoth had so long and so thoroughly spread across Arda would linger it would no longer manifest itself in a dark lord but find fertile crowned in the hearts and minds of all people so that Envy hatred and greed would create new calamities and new Wars again and again in a world violated by evil this was the True Legacy of morgoth and his Lieutenant Sauron and it was a Triumph of evil evil and the Darkness within would tarnish the world to the ends of times foreign this chapter and this video did the knowledge surprise you let us know in the comments if you
