[Music] as you now know there are plenty of electric Crossovers and SUVs to choose from so if you're someone like Ford trying to make something a little different well what do you do well you stick a horse on the front of it yes you are looking at a Mustang badge now before you scream at me and tell me that this isn't a real Mustang well I know that I know this isn't a V8 and I much prefer a V8 Mustang but Ford insists this isn't a replacement for your V8 Mustang instead it's another horse in the stable this particular horse in this stable doesn't have an engine at all so at Cars and Coffee you're not going to show off a beautiful V8 instead you have 134 L of boot space up here in the form of a frankk but at least you can throw ice in here and use it as a cooler but why on Earth would Ford choose to call this a Mustang well it gives Ford a reason to make a more exciting electric crossover by calling it a Mustang it gave for a reason give this more exciting styling give it a purpose in how it was meant to drive and look and just make sure that it wasn't going to be another boring EV blob driving around on the road in terms of pricing you got three models to choose from you've got an entry level select model which has the least amount of range but also has an lfp battery then you move up into the premium which gets the most amount of range but it's got a nickel cobolt battery and then you've got this GT which is the fastest and most expensive Mustang Mar you can buy so I borrow the Mustang Marquee GT because I wanted to see what this car is capable of and I was more interested in testing the performance version of a car that wears the Mustang badge now this is all dripping in Grabber blue paint which will cost you an extra $700 you get this fake out Grill here which you actually don't need but Ford have included it as a key part of the design a giant Pony badge up front and you have active arrow down below to help with cooling of this car you get these iconic looking LED lights with these rolling indicators you've also got a more aggressive looking front bumper on this GT model with some passive Arrow here on the sides now this particular press car does have a lot of flex in this front bumper and there's a bit of odd spacing around the lights which isn't too bad but what is bad is that it looks like the light and the fitment of the bumper is chipping away at the paint right here so if that was happening on my car and I had bought this I'd be pretty annoyed by that now Ford doesn't want to make you forget that this thing is called a must saying by putting Pony logos on the inside of the wheels you get 20-in wheels on this GT spec and you get these 245 width tires around the car which is wider than the 225s that come on the premium and the select models and they're wrapped in a pelli P0 Tire which helps with putting down all the power that this car makes but we have to go back to why this is actually called a Mustang well it helps actually design this car well you get a Mustang looking blunt front end you get a longish hood and also a bit of a hood element over your headlights and you get what Ford calls like a coke bottle rearend aesthetic now what else is cool is that the MK e here in Australia comes with Ford's keypad here on the a pillar on the driver's side which means you can lock and unlock this thing using a key code rather than having to take the key with you and the rear doors don't have a handle at all in so they rely on the little actuator to push the door open like this and you just simply grab the door and then when you need to close it you just close it like a regular door now is it all it's a bit unnecessary yes a little bit but if you're designing an electric car you want to be as aerodynamic as possible so this does help out a little bit and this car also went to Turkey to get itself a new hairline Because the actual roof line is obviously a bit higher as you can see here but at a glance you think the roof line is a lot lower and a lot more sexy looking in the form of this blue pillar that runs across the top of the car now finishing off with these iconic Mustang tail lights you have at the back and of course a giant GT badge to let everyone know that you shouldn't mess around with this car at a set of traffic lights I do think that the must stay Mark E even though it has some visual trickery going on and it's borrowed a lot of elements from the pony car it's a good looking electric SUV and a lot more interesting than some other options out there now this being a GT we've also got some diffusery looking pieces down here and if you do wave your foot like that or your hand down below you will automatically open the automatic tailgate and this will reveal a decent amount of space back here there's just under 520 L of boot space here and you have a false floor as well underneath that false floor you get a type 2 charging cable which is included here but there's no spare tire instead there is a tire repair kit which isn't very useful if you get a bad flat now the seats fold in a 6040 split which is a bit annoying because you have to sacrifice some seat room if you're going to put bigger items through to the second row but what is annoying is that this button here to close the boot is not illuminated so it Tak some guess work when you first get this car to learn where that button is getting into the back of the Marquee pretty easy it's got nice wide door openings but it doesn't feel as roomy back here as a Tesla Model wire but it is close you get two USB ports One USB y c one USB type A you've got your own air vs back here and you can control your air speed you've got a center armor here with two cup holders but you can't access the boot through the middle and you have a giant glass roof which you can't put a cover on but what is cool is that it's heavily tinted so it's not bringing in too much heat and you've got the most interesting looking coat hooks I've ever seen they've actually hidden behind some covers and you can tell it's the body of the car hidden behind this cover but they've just molded an actual coat hook into the metal of the car it's not a plastic hook which is very interesting now there's lots of hard plastic in front of me but there are no map Pockets which is an interesting exclusion in this GT Model we have some large speakers here next to your knees which look great and you have plenty of soft touch materials on top of the doors and some suede here in the door as well and the seats themselves are okay they're a bit on the firm side and don't have too much bolstering at all when you're cornering and they do feel a bit flat and upright and they're made of a leather type material and also some cloth material as well so you definitely could fit three people in the back for a short trip sort of comfortably now if you have anyone who's never been in your car before they're going to have a hard time getting out because the door handles aren't where you're going to find them instead they're actually in the handle of the door and you pull back on them and they pop open just like that you got traditional air vents up here in the dash you get this textured plastic trim which looks pretty nice and you got additional Suede and stitching here on the dash as well in front of the passenger and also in front of you as the driver you got yourself a pretty decent sized glove box these Ford performance seats here are a bit on the firm side when it comes to their headrest and they don't really have too much adjustment in the headrest at all because it's like a single piece so it's like a two-piece seat design but they do look cool and they also feel very supportive compared to the back seats we get GT embossed here into the center armrest and that Center armrest then reveals a pretty generously sized Center cubby here goes pretty deep so you can fit a large water bottle like this but you can't close the little cover when you do put something like this in there and you have a 12volt socket in here as well we get a rotary shift dial and we get more stitching and leather type material around here although this trim does feel a little cheap because it sort of lifts up kind of easily you've got cup holders here you've got a wireless charging pad and in a big area to put any sort of loose items you get a USB type c and USB type a port as well you get a physical start stop Button as well but then you've got this steering wheel which isn't my favorite it does have a pony on it which looks good and you've also got yourself some stitching and it is a synthetic leather and you can adjust it telescopically as well so you can get nice and comfortable but something I'm just not a huge fan of is how thin it is I just wish it was a bit more chunky to sort of make this thing feel more like a GT product what's good is that it does have a bunch of physical interactions where something like a Tesla doesn't now this is definitely in the top three of the best infotainments I've tested in any car you've got Tesla you've got byd and you've got Ford so these are really good screens they're super responsive which is nice and apple carplay looks great it's got Wireless Apple carplay but you have these functions up the top you have your profile up here but you've also got your quick access to your cameras which will look weird cuz the doors are open at the moment it's got 360 cameras which is great and you've got quick controls of things like your drive modes and your other car controls here but what's hilarious is that you got three Drive modes one's called whisper active and you have untame mode and here in the GT we get untame plus which I'll show you what that does when I'm driving and then what's cool is that when you change the drive modes here it does change what this cluster sort of looks like a tiny bit and here in these controls you've also got quick controls to release the front trunk area and also the rear boot now we' got a home button here which is easy to jump into Quick menus like Radio phone navigation media controls Apple carplay Android auto your charging information your tire pressures your trip information and also your owners manual and even sketch pad which is something you can do if you're bored in your car which is something you can use but I just wish this maybe had connectivity to something like Netflix or YouTube instead of this now the charging screen is pretty basic I was expecting something a bit more but instead we've just got battery information how much range we have left driving history departure and comfort settings and charging locations but that's it there's no like ability to precondition the battery here from a single button and really you just have some quick little menus here down below which is easy to access and it will even tell you what sort of energy consumption you're using on your trip which is very useful you have your climate controls down below and access to your heated seats which is pretty useful and we have this floating donut which I've been told isn't actually physically attached to the screen instead it's just sort of sat on there using some adhesive and it sort of reads inputs into the screen which I think is kind of cool but the biggest reason upgraded the GT is the fact that this comes with Magna ride suspension meaning that it's adaptive so it can adapt to the road as it drives along and it'll be comfortable when you want it to comfortable but if you want it to be in the most aggressive setting it can also do that too and additionally that means that this car is 11 mm lower than a normal Muk e now when you put a Mustang badge on a Ford and a GT badge in the back it has to mean something this thing produces 358 KW and it produces 860 new of torque from two electric motors and that 91 KW battery that is a mind melting amount of power and this thing has to move 2.2 tons of Mustang maky and it can do that from 0 to 100 kmph which is 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds so although your V8 Mustang might sound better I would definitely not mess around with one of these at a drag strip and what's crazy is that this isn't even its final form Ford has plenty of performance versions planned for the Marquee they've even got a rally version that they've got out as a concept and they've even got some radical over 1,000 horsepower drift version of the Mustang Marquee so you just know that this setup is capable of more power than that now Ford claims this thing can hit 100 km an hour in 3.7 seconds here let's test that in 3 2 1 and oh my gosh oh W oh my gosh I've been in a lot of fast electric cars and even the direct rival of the car which would be the Tesla Model y performance but this just feels a whole lot more exciting Ford have done a great job of Engineering in some sound some fear when you accelerate here there's a propulsion sound that you can activate which makes this sound a little bit more exciting as there's a gentle hum in the background that creates an ambient sort of acceleration sound the steering is quite weighted up here but it does feel a bit like a rubber band it doesn't really feel too connected like a traditional Mustang Pony car would it does feel more like an electric SUV what's great is that I've got one pedal drive mode on here which means that you're able to sort of break and accelerate using the regenerator braking from the electric motors here so so I can just sort of lift off the throttle and it's quite aggressive as well so you really don't have to touch the brakes all that much even though you get a strong set of Brembo Performance breaks and here's here's the part of the test I I don't really want to do which is the braking performance and this thing does pull up really hard and that's because it combines the regenerative braking as well as the big Brembo brakes that this thing has and I'll initiate an emergency stop in 3 2 1 and oh my go go H this is probably one of the strongest braking electric cars I've driven it is ridiculously quick to dive on those brakes and it bites hard so that will just take some time to get used to we have some nice winding roads up here to sort of demonstrate what magn ride can do and also why you would buy a GT so heading through here we're lower to the ground we do have a worse turning radius because of that but this does a amazing job just feeling not so topheavy some of these electric crossovers do feel top heavy despite all their weight being down low but this thing thanks to it seating position long Hood it just really feels a lot more exciting to drive than a normal electric crossover or SUV if you do get this performance version of the Mustang Mar you will get more sound in terms of tie noise there's plenty of it here in the cabin but it's not too bad when you're on the highway but on these coarse roads it definitely stands out mid-range acceleration is ridiculous thanks to having over 500 horsepower at your disposal and instant torque and that instant torque being 860 NM of which is oh my gosh that will make you you and your passengers feel sick if you do that all day now we do have a untame plus button here but it's not available right now because it needs certain conditions to be available the battery has to be an Optimum temperature you have to have a certain amount of charge and it allows the car to sort of optimize your Motors and battery for the quickest possible lap time it's basically a qualifying mode but here I'm not able to engage it because it's just not letting me as I'm driving here so it's a bit particular about when you can use it and what was interesting is that the guys at Ford said they went to the presidents of the largest Ford clubs over in North America to get their approval and of course they'll met with a lot of scals and a lot of question marks but then once they finished their presentation and shown what this is capable of and what it's like to drive and what they've done with it they actually got a bunch of approval from those presidents so there are plenty of Mustang people out there who are open-minded to something like this but again I can completely understand why someone might get upset by this being called a Mustang but what is clear is that by calling this a Mustang it gives it a proper direction to make sure that you are driving a performance orientated electric car other than just an electric Ford Explorer and what's interesting is that I've driven a Tesla Model y performance on these exact roads and this just feels so much better than that I've driven a few other electric cars out here as well this is where I like to take my electric cars on a longer trip to see how the range goes and also just see how they drive I've even driven a very expensive trotor electric Audi SUV out here and I have to say the Marquee GT has to be my favorite electric SUV to drive this is just far more entertaining it's got the power it's got the handling and it's got the looks this thing is very engaging to drive for an electric crossover and to be honest one of my favorite driving experiences out here in an electric car now laying down the throttle through corners is really fun too this thing just has so much talk and thanks to electric motors having more responsiveness than a traditional petrol motor you just feel safer putting down all that power underneath you but I will say these larger wheels and the stiffer ride and also the lower ride height does result in a bit of a bumpier ride it's not a plush ride at all but it does do a good job of ironing out most bumps but you will know that they're there either because the car makes a sound when it goes over it or you will feel it now you can dial it all back and whisper mode and that's pretty nice and pretty relaxed but what I love is that if you dig down into the throttle you still get most of that power there which makes me feel nice and reassured that if I want to use that power it's there but I don't have to be driving the most aggressive of setting so even though it's your god-given right to have a V8 in your Mustang I do have to say that the Mustang marke is proving to be a really good option if you want a Mustang branded car but don't want a V8 now if it only takes a few minutes to fill up your V8 Mustang and get driving again how long does it take to recharge an electric Mustang well the least amount of time you'll spend on the road is 45 minutes that's how long it takes to charge this from 10 to 80% at a rate of up to 150 KW now that is not a fast rate there are faster cars that charge a lot quicker than this like the hyand Ionix and even the Tesla Model y will charge faster than this but here's the thing you come across a DC fast charger like this Tesla Supercharger and this thing is only capable of supplying you 130 KW so you are making the most of this charger but you might not make the most of a charge that's capable of supplying you of 200 to 300 KW and then a home charger which is a 7 Kow charger that will take you around 7 hours to charge from 0 to 100% so you'll get a full charge overnight if you park in a garage now claimed range on this thing is only 490 km and I found it to be more around 420 km but the regen did a good job of keeping the range up but yeah it's not going to be the most amount of range you can get in this car if you want performance the sacrifices range if you don't care about performance you can get the premium model which has the same battery but it has far more range cuz it doesn't have an extra motor well should you buy an electric Mustang well I definitely would if I was shopping for a performance electric SUV I think it's the best handling I think it's the best performance and I think it's one of the better looking electric SUVs on the market and to be honest if I had this amount of money to spent on a performance electric SUV I'd be more tempted to buy this over a Tesla Model y performance but if you think this is going to replace your V8 you're absolutely wrong this is totally not the car for you if you've owned a bunch of V8 Mustangs before but if you know you want a different Driving Experience then you should buy one of these
