all right welcome back it's been about two months now since i did my initial video on the sun jojo thatcher and i can't believe how many of you guys watch this and i told you guys right after i made it that i was going to give you guys an update on how the long-term results worked and stuff like that and i was super impressed with the initial usage and what happened to my lawn but it's taken two months to make this this update because of some of the weather and kind of results that i had so i'm going to show you what those results are we had some crazy weather with extreme amounts of heat and then extreme amounts of rain and so i didn't know if it was that or just my lawn or what's going on but i want to show you what's going on with the lawn and then i'm also going to do something that i saw on youtube and that i've read about on the internet that i think will help what's going on with the lawn now and it's baby shampoo so i'm going to wash my lawn i hope you guys stick around and see what happens so like i said in the last video i used the sun joe de thatcher and i was really impressed with it i was skeptical at first but i have to say i was overall really impressed with the results i went over the yard a total of four times pulled out a ton of dead grass off the yard and i think really made some improvements we saw instantly a huge change in color in my yard and i think that's because of all that dead grass that we pulled out of there but like i alluded to we had some crazy weather right after that we had a straight week of rain downpour thunderstorms crazy rain and then it seemed like the next week and a half was crazy heat 85 to 90 degree heats and that's that's a lot for the type of grass that we have up here in ohio and then immediately following that we had thunderstorms coming again so the weather's been all over the place this year and trying to figure out what's actually going on with the yard was a little bit difficult for me but when i was looking over the yard i was finding out that there were still these kind of dead spots or dry areas it looked like just dormant grass so i started poking around with a screwdriver and what i noticed was that in the areas where the grass looked really nice it the the ground was soft and kind of moist and then in the areas where the grass was dry or dormant looking the ground was really hard and it was harder to get the screwdriver down in the ground you can see the soil and it looks fine but what i'm thinking is going on here is there might be a kind of a waxy buildup layer on the top of this soil and it could be because of all that dead grass that was in my yard for so long as that grass started to decay it created this you know the breakdown of whatever was in there and it created that waxy kind of coating on top of the soil so that's where the shampooing your lawn kind of comes into play what we're going to try to do is use soap to wash away that waxy layer i'm using johnson and johnson baby shampoo but there's all kinds of different soaps that you can use a lot of people use dawn dish soap the only thing that you don't want is an antibacterial because we don't want to wash away any of that organic stuff that's trying to happen in your lawn i really don't think it would make a big difference but you know just to be safe we're gonna we're gonna stay away from the anti-bacterial reading online and watching videos it looks like three ounces per thousand feet is what a lot of people try but there are also people out there that have done like 50 to 100 ounces per thousand square feet and there's they've had no problems uh so it doesn't look like you can put too much on there i'm gonna stay on the safer side i'm gonna do five ounces per thousand square feet and the area that i'm going to be treating of my front yard here is about 2 000 square feet so i'm going to pour in 10 ounces of shampoo into my handheld sprayer and then fill the rest of it up with water and then depending on the sprayer your flow rate and different things are going to be different the really the only thing that matters is that you're getting even coverage across the entire yard i went over the dead spots or the the dryer spots you know twice or three times i actually went over the entire yard multiple times because i had never used this sprayer before so i had a lot left over after the first pass i made a complete second pass of the yard one problem that i did have was the sprayer that i was using had a quick disconnect method it broke off and i think that's because i have such high water pressure so i ended up switching to another sprayer and finishing off with that one and it worked perfectly fine one awesome thing about this was it smelled awesome it smelled like baby shampoo normally when you're spraying chemicals or stuff on your lawn they don't have a real attractive smell this one was actually really nice and then really the last thing to kind of note about this is we want to make sure that we're doing this probably not in the middle of the day when it's 95 degrees out i did this relatively early in the morning before it got too warm and then i'm going to make sure that i water the lawn consistently after i do this for about the next week to make sure that we water that soap in and we get the results that we're looking for all right so as far as lawn care projects are concerned that's about as easy as it gets and i'll be honest with you i really don't know if this is going to work from what i've been reading on the internet and what i watched on youtube like it makes sense and in working at a golf course and talking about different surfactants and wetting agents and what they do for grass you know make the grass use the the actual water better or help it penetrate into the ground better i get the science behind it and the thought behind it but but we'll actually have to see what those results end up being and i'll give you an update on that here in about a month i'm going to rent an aerator from a from a local company and aerate my front yard take some actual core aerations out of the yard to kind of break up the soil try to encourage those roots to grow deeper and at that point i'm going to oversee the lawn and i think that's where i'm going to really see the best results so i'll walk you through that process and show you that here in the future video as well as give you an update on this one so i'm hoping we see something but i i don't know right now um in doing this you know it really didn't take that long uh if if it doesn't work out really all that i'm out is you know an hour maybe and a five dollar bottle of baby shampoo so we'll see how it goes um in in in doing this i also kind of learned rather than poking around my yard with a screwdriver using one of these soil probes that will actually take out a core of your yard would definitely be a little bit bigger you can see this one is massive i ordered this on amazon you know after the project was over because i realized how stupid the screwdriver was these really aren't this expensive you really don't need one this big but it'll definitely let you get down in your soil and tell you a whole lot more about what's going on there you can see the different layers you can see the actual grass layer you can see if there's any dead material in there you can see the thatch layer and then you can see how far down that water is penetrating down into your soil so that might be something you want to invest in these are both decent options for hose sprayers i i did have a little bit of trouble with this one but that just could be me and my water pressure this one worked perfectly fine i know there are definitely better options out there on amazon than that but yet again like i said really happy with the sun joe got some amazing results with that and you saw that in my first video i probably am going to bring this back out when i get the aerator out but you'll you'll see that in my next video so if you like this video please uh give it a like i really appreciate that if you're liking some of my projects or you're looking around my channel and seeing some other stuff that you like i encourage you to subscribe and hit the bell so you don't miss anything but other than that i hope to see you guys in another project
