Deloitte in Conversation - Why Deloitte?

it's a big organization and it covers the entire waterfront public sector private sector large companies smaller companies unquoted quoted and what's great for me is that I get to deal with these these companies so as an economist that's very unusual most economists spend a lot of the time looking at data it's they're not ivory tower economists but they're they're analyzing data when you actually talk to economic decision makers in the economy you get it you get a different perspective and kind of granular perspective and one of the things that I've got to do in my role and I think this is come to what a lot of people into what I do is that actually trying to generalize what you've learned in one area and share it with other areas of the business is you know it's really interesting it's really fun so exploring and understanding the organization of Deloitte and what different people do is is part of the attraction and it's also probably attraction for me as an economist to be in a business which is really engaged with helping companies and helping businesses to do better and because that most economists are really on with the kind of research side I'm actually closer to helping companies run their run their business you get so many different opportunities there's so much movement within the organization you can all sorts of different careers within within Deloitte it's in a growth industry you just gotta look at revenue growth in this sector in the last 10 years we follow the data on employment in the sector it is a long term growth sector I think it's very entrepreneurial place but it has to be you because it has to it has to support companies we're a service and so as the economy changes the needs of clients change we've got to make sure we're there and we're we're we're helping them I think it's a very sort of flexible place to work as big focus on people agile working so not more just going into work and sitting at a desk but it's it's doing the job where it is most most appropriate this there's a lot of travel there's a lot of opportunity to do kind of different things outside your own area and I think there's also a lot of support and actually support and training for employees actually more than in anywhere else I've worked which is is great so even at my my stage in life I'm still doing training because I just find there some really interesting courses to do so III I think the Lord is a you know it's a very good place to to pursue a career actually you
