hey everyone we are back in the kitchen today and we are going to dehydrate up some blueberries that we grew here on our homestead these are highbush blueberries and they're a little bit bigger we have the Maine wild blueberries also but they're really tiny and when you dry them excuse me when you dry them they are like little rocks so I don't really dry those out that much so we're gonna use these bigger blueberries from our hi bush and we're gonna get these dehydrated for trail mixes and cereal and yogurt and whatever just snacking on they're delicious so let's get to it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so to get started we just want to make sure that our blueberries are super super clean and so we're gonna give them a little vinegar bath I've got two tablespoons of vinegar and a nice big bowl you want to make sure that your blueberries are covered is the biggest thing so I'm just going to put my vinegar in there and this is really important especially if you buy them from the grocery store your blueberries but if you are growing them on your own a good rinse you know there's no chemicals on them then you can do that but just for this taken if there was anything on them you want to make sure they get a good bath so we're just gonna get them in this vinegar water and we're gonna move them around and make sure that they are getting nice and washed and they're agitated and kind of hitting each other so just to knock anything off that there is on there cuz you know when you get picking this little pieces of everything we got stems in there tiny needle fun stuff okay so we've given these a nice wash and kept agitating them for about three or four minutes and we want them to be nice and clean so they're nice and clean so now we're just going to take them and strain them out and give them a good rinse with some nice filtered water you can use your water whatever you have but we live we live kind of way out but we live it in right in front of the town Wells so our tap water has fluoride and chlorine so I don't like that so we use the filtered water that's what I like to clean what you can use so we're just gonna give these a really good rinse and try not to smush them up too much okay so we've got our blueberries all washed and rinsed and we're just going to take these little bad boys and we're going to lay them right out on this towel so we can dry them up a little bit just so they're not wet to the touch so we just spread these out like so just something kind of flat roll them around a little and if you see any piece as a flower or a little stem this one's got the little stem on it we'll just pop that right off you don't want to eat the stems are kinda crunchy and not as tasty as the berry but if you see any funky berries you can grab them out now's a good time to grab them this one got this gift squished it got squished and we are just going to grab another towel and throw it right on top just like that kind of roll them around just to get the excess water off that's all we're doing here it's kind of rolling around you can see the towel picks up a little bit of the water and a bottom one takes even a lot more water in so I use a thicker towel on the bottom and you can really roll them around good if you want get that water off they don't have to be completely dry but the more water that's on them the longer they're going to take to dry okay so we've got most of the water off you can leave these out for a while if you want but I just want to get them in the dehydrator and get going and we're just going to take our towel off and we're gonna fill up our trays and we do not want them on top of each other these are this way is going to make your berries a little bit drier and crunch here if you parboiled them right now for 25 to 35 seconds and then shock them with an ice bath you would get more of a raisin texture but I don't like that texture so this is going to give you a crunchy air dryer berry which I find is great for trail mixes and putting in you know granolas or whatever like that you want to make sure these have plenty of space on your dryer so there's good air circulation you don't want to overfill it and you don't want them on top of each other so that is about how I fill my trays just to give them enough room so they can all get dry just kind of even them out best you can pop them in the diner no we got runaways alright so I'm gonna finish loading up these trades and I will bring you back when we get em all in there okay so we have all of our blueberries entrees they're cleaned dried ready to go so we're gonna put them push all our trays in put our cover on and we and we are going to turn our dehydrator to 135 degrees which is right about in the middle there and we're gonna turn it on and we're gonna let this go for probably 10 hours before we give it a good check so I'll bring you back right so these have been in here for about 15 hours they took a little longer to dry and but they are done you can see they have tried up and they are crispy which is how I like them in the granola it's just perfect but that's it dehydrated blueberries and we're gonna let these cool down to room temperature so we don't get any condensation and we're gonna put them in a glass jar and they will keep before really really long time that's it if you liked this video give us a thumbs up subscribe we'll see in the next video bye [Music]
