hey guys Sam from panel precision today we're going to go over the new defensive edge precision rifle leveling kit okay there's a lot of different ways to mount scopes but I think the simplest way and the way the defensive edge does it is just by using some small simple levels to make sure that your scope turret is perfectly aligned with the axis of the bore and plumb to gravity now you know if you go on YouTube you'll see a lot of different ways to mount scopes but this way is easy and you can do it anywhere you want to even do a tailgate of a truck you can do a laying on the ground while you're out shooting on a bench your kitchen counter wherever you want to so what defensive edge did was they assemble the kit that gives you all the pieces that you would ever need to mount any scope combination that I can think of at least on any rifle combination so let's break down what comes in the box okay I took the peanuts out of the box but when you open the box up it's a pretty well packaged kit you get your instructions right here and then you also get three pieces that are pretty nicely wrapped in bubble wrap so rather than showing you unwrapping all this stuff I'm just gonna lay it out okay you see here's the instructions that come with this this the instructions are also up on defensive edges website right now so you can go and take a peek at them online if you want but in the box you have the instructions and then you have three different levels and they call them level one two and three now this one is just kind of a utility level they're all made out of aluminum so all this stuff is really light and very nice it's all anodized but this one is just designed to sit up on top of something and check out the level that way this one if you guys have seen my video about mounting scopes especially the guys that have emailed me about getting that piece I use a level and Bob at defensive edge actually showed me this trick but put a level on the underside of a turret housing and use that to line up your you know to level the scope off but this will allow it to do that plus it'll sit on top of a rail and still hang out under the the turret knob so you can see the bubble now this one will fit into a Remington 700 Moltres way or any action that's similarly-sized and what this does for you is it lets you set the initial level on your receiver before you start leveling off in the other axis the other thing that this level will be really good for is setting up a either an angle cosine or an angle degree indicator on your rifle so if you're still running one of those this would be a really easy way to make sure that your receiver is spot-on and that you setup your cosine indicator or your degree indicator perfectly okay what I'm going to do today is I'm just going to mount this okay back up a little bit this this is my savage mark to that Jake and I used to play around a lot with and when it came from the factory just had a zero MOA rail on it and what I've done is I've added a 20 MOA egw rail to it so I had to take the scope off the Rings off all that stuff what I'm going to do is set this all back up but the first thing I want to do is I want to get the rifle a mostly level you know in the parallel with the bore this way now because this piece this level number three it works in a Remington 700 style action I can't stick it into my savage mark too but no big deal we're just gonna put a generic level that you will call it a utility level which is number one right across the rail like that and just make sure that I'm pretty close this way now before I put the scope into the Rings one thing I want to point out is if you guys aren't running a rail if you're just running a regular ring setup that sits on the barrel and you don't have a flat here to check your level this way what I would do is I would use your ring HAP's I would just put it right on top of your ring haves these should be symmetrical now if you're working with a split half that goes up and down you're gonna have to figure something out but if you're working with regular ring haves like this you should be able to just go right across like that okay well how we want to start with this is we want our scope sitting on there we want a rail torque down so you have to worry about it anymore and I torque down my ring so they're firmly in place now the first thing I do is I set this up so I get the proper eye relief and then after I figured out where my eye relief is I want to make sure that the scope can rotate in the Rings like this but not too easily I to be able to twist it around like that now this is a clamp-on anti Kant device it's just a regular level one but I'm going to leave it loose so that I can rotate it on the scope tube as well and then when we get the scope all mounted down we're gonna set that up so that it is plumb to our arete achill and our turret okay when we get all done that's what we want to see we want to see our rail so the the axis of the board this direction is level the turret is level and the ring cap is synced up to the turret and the rail so everything is plumbed together so that when we dial our turret up and down it's going to go up and down the amount that it's supposed to and it's not going to go right or left that's what it boils down to we have a couple of things to check first okay so if you watch my video last year about mounting scopes you saw that I used a piece of tool steel with a bubble level glue to it which is actually a tool that Bob Carlock made for me well this is the equivalent to that tool right here this is a much nicer tool obviously it's just very well made but it has a line here that lines up you could put that on there and watch it on the other side of your rail and that gives you a good balance point so that'll just sit there so what we're gonna do now is we're gonna confirm yes that the rifle itself is level now on the rail and what we're going to do is we're going to check the relationship between the bottom of the turret housing which is a a square surface that all the guts inside the the scope are attached to so in other words your turret and your reticle and all that stuff is plumb and square with the bottom of that turret housing now turret knobs they can be anywhere so what we're going to do is we're going to see if we can use our turrets knob so we're going to level this off right there and then we're gonna put level number 1 on top so you can see there's a little bit offset there now if you want to keep using that you can start rotating your turrets knob until you find a spot where they agree so we could use that right there and it doesn't matter what kind of scope use and this is a Bushnell engage so it's on the inexpensive end of the spectrum night force eight a cars are the same way because they they clamp onto the turret knob or the turret knob clamps onto the housing the turret housing itself or the turret with set screws coming in from the side you know they can be all over the place and the same thing with in excesses and the XRS to just about every scope I messed with there is a potential there for you know if you just drop a level on top of that turret knob you aren't going to be right you can usually turn them around like I just showed you though and make sure that they are indexed to the bottom of the housing that way and as long as they are you can use that to get this leveled up okay once you get that squared away on how you're gonna set that up you go ahead and torque down your cap screws and you go ahead and line up your and a Kant device right here and just get them all lined up and then when I'm done I'm gonna confirm everything so everything's torqued down now I have this level which is level number two resting on the rail itself and you can see it's square and level now I'm gonna check to make sure that the bottom of my turret housing is level so that means that the top here which is level is in line and square it up with the tert housing itself so the knob is okay and I went ahead and I tighten down my aunt I can't device so I'm done with this rifle now at the end of all this I'm still gonna go out I'm gonna shoot this on a plumb line you know I'm going to lay down I'm gonna line up my level get it perfect and I'm gonna be looking through my scope at a plumb line on my target backer and make sure that the reticle is perfectly lined up with that plumb line and then I'm gonna do a tall target test where I'm going to run up you know to the max scope travel and make sure that as I'm shooting not only does it match up the values as I dial up but that the the impacts on my line goes straight up so that they're perfectly plumb to gravity so we want everything to go straight up and down but you know I just don't have a problem with that when I use tools like this to this all started okay so I'm going to put this accuracy first scope level on Jake's rifle and this is his savage mark 2 which is left-handed and I'm using this Bushnell Forge that we've already been shooting on the rifle now everything is level so we have the the rails leveled the rifles leveled the bottom of the turret housing is leveled we've already actually shot this one on tall target test but we cannot get that top turret knob to agree no matter what I do no matter where I rotate it in the you know the amount of rotation the amount of travel I get out of it so to put that level on there I'm not even gonna bother with this one I'm just going to take it off get it out of the way and I'm gonna use the bottom side of the turret housing to reference that so I know everything's level right now so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to rotate my level until I get it where I want should try this if you're right-handed and then I'm gonna torque that down I'm gonna check everything again make sure it's right all right well it all looks pretty good it's all tightened down we're all plumb and square and level and everything's good so the you know even even though this all looks really good I'm gonna go out and imma shoot it against a plumb line again or I might have Jake shoot against plumb line to make sure it tracks perfectly up and down all right so here's scope level number three and this is the one that just slides in the receiver so this goes into you know something the size of a Raceway of a Remington 700 you see it fits very well sits in place there and it gives you an excellent place to come up with a level on your receiver and what that does for you is allows you to set up a angle cosine indicator or angle degree indicator which is this little gadget right here and it tells you what your angle is so when you take in a shot all right well that's about it if you guys want more information on mounting scopes be sure to check out that video that I put on the YouTube channel last year and I'll put the link in the description of this one be sure to go to defensive edges website and check these out they have them for sale there they are retailing for forty nine ninety five it's a good value for the nut for the quality of the tools that you're getting you're getting three levels that all sir purpose and all work very well and you know spend my experience that you buy stuff like this and it's not really a you know it's marketed and sold as a specialty tool for doing one thing but you'll find yourself using it for all kinds of things so you know be sure to check them out and I'm sure that there's a bunch out there judging by the emails that I got on Bob's tool that I used in that video last year and that's what this one does this is exactly the same deal only a much fancier much nicer tool but check them out their defensive edge net thanks for watching the video we'll see you next time [Applause]
