There is a common myth floating around that women used to take hours to get dressed, due to the elaborate nature of their dresses, with many layers and the difficulty of moving in a corset. In actuality, it would've taken about the same amount of time as us! :)

I guess it depends what you include in “getting dressed”. It takes some women hours to get dressed even today.

I could make a YouTube video showing how you can put on a wedding dress in 5 minutes but that doesn’t mean most brides don’t turn it into a half day affair to get dressed.

Nifty video, especially since it also debunks the misconception that women couldn’t lace up (or remove) their own corsets – another HUGE pet peeve of mine, along with how they wore piles of layers and how hot they must’ve been. 🙄

I dated this one girl in freshman year that would literally take hours to get ready for a date. I even went so far as to set a date an hour early and then arrive an hour late and she would still not be ready. I came to find out that she made me wait for about an hour before we went out on purpose to supposedly give me some kind of illusion that she was worth waiting for. I dumped her. Six months later she calls me up and wants to go out. She never made me wait for her again.

I never heard it took them hours, but it still seems to take a very long time.
