original works like these fine people have access to consider joining the patreon your contributions help make content come out sooner and supports new and upcoming projects the theory for this episode is Omega is supposed to look like the X series zero because the game states that Omega uses zeros original body or zeros new body in megaman zero is just an art style change for this game and doesn't count for anything other than looks this theory is a tough one to bust because it comes in two parts number one you have to know the series of events leading up to Omega taking zeros body and number two you have to know the difference between an art style change and a character design let's start with a series of events leading up to omegas body snatching at some point before the Mega Man Zero series even begins zero has his mind separated from his body his mind is kept in a computer and his body is kept secured in a lab for studying to understand the Maverick virus with his vacant body just sitting there the evil dr. wild takes control of zeros body and turns it into Omega X is called into action to stop while an Omega but needs some help zeros mind is taken out of the computer he was put in and given a copy body which on the surface is an exact replica of the body that Omega is using but clearly does not have all of zeros original latent power nevertheless it'll have to do for the battle ahead that's about as far as we need to go to understand where this new body comes from make sense so far right you might be wondering but why isn't omega in the x1 era zero body or at the very least in the one we use we see him use in the x-series didn't Omega take zeros original body that's what it says in the game's dialogue well yes he took zeros original body as in the one he was using at the time remember this body snatch happened before the events that kicked off the zero series that's why Omega looks like the zero we play as in Mega Man Zero and not the X era body which has been obsolete for a long time now you might be inclined to argue that this doesn't count as zeros original body because it looks so different but are you saying that rep loads can't update their appearances as technology advances if you were to change out of your shirt and put on another one is your body no longer yours the body that will make a stole with zeros original body as in the one zero was wearing at the time it looks that way because it has been upgraded over the years until it's reached its current design let's take a look at an example of robot designs being upgraded throughout the years starting in 20xx we can see here even if you look at mega man from Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 10 his body stays consistent while the art style changes but once you hit Mega Man 11 you can see mega man gains panels on his body new seams notches and other details as well as segmented wrists and ankles so that the legs and arms are no longer one solid but squishy piece I think we can all agree that those notches and seams were not always on Mega Man these are new and seeing them now in Mega Man 11 does not mean that they have always been there in Mega Man 1 as for the art style as in the line thickness coloring shading proportions then yes we can say that Mega Man has always looked this way when looking at it through the art style lens of Mega Man 11 a better way to put it would be to look at the ending of Mega Man 2 let's say in Mega Man 2 they did an anime cutscene for the ending instead of sprite art even though Mega Man 2 is artwork looked like this if we were to see you through the lens of Mega Man 11 it would look more like this notice how even though the art style has changed to Mega Man 11 their physical bodies have not magically gained the Mega Man 11 panels and scenes with this logic in mind we can deduce that when a character receives an art style change that is separate from their design changing I promise this will all go back to Omega just stick with me until we get there okay let's take another look at an example closer to our target destination zero in Mega Man X one looked like this zero in X 4 when we see him in a flashback looks like this same person same design but the art style is clearly different notice how much taller he looks but the design is still the same jumping ahead a little further we see that in X 8 our favorite Harter trio undergoes a drastic art style change as well as a new design change notice how X now has a lot more light blue panels on him a new Buster and most importantly his armor has gotten a lot more streamlined making him appear more human zero and Axel also undergoes some physical changes even though it might not be as evident at first glance zeros vent is now seamlessly attached to his chest his silver wrist guards are a slightly point here and he gains a new set of white heels instead of his standard solid red as one of us some minor changes to his ears in ponytail axel also gains a new heel segment in his foot and his helmet has some slight modifications and the insides of his gems now resemble a camera iris instead of whatever they were before like before we can clearly see that even though the art style has changed 4x8 the character designs for Xero has changed as well if you go back in time a luxury not many of you may have you would see that x10 clearly would not have the same streamlined Armour x80 has he has much chunkier compared to his x8 counterpart in fact nearly every rep Lloyd has undergone similar changes the entire design philosophy for the rep loads of x8 has a totally different feel from those seen in previous games finally dipping our toes into the zero series we can see now that rep light armor is far more sleek and refined basically just looking like clothing at this point on the surface Brooklands can almost pass for human one example I nearly forgot to mention seems to be in-game proof that everyone's new designs are the result of advancing technology and not widespread art style change in mega man zero to Phoenix Magnum is a boss who can summon spectres of previously killed rep Lloyds specifically bit vile Colonel and agile but if you look closely that's their x-series designs if the entire franchise had undergone this massive art style shift why do these dead rep Lloyd from a hundred years ago still look like their x-series counterparts if the zero series art style change aesthetically retconned every single design to match this new art style as many people seem to claim then why would these four characters still look the way they did a hundred years ago if it was an art style change it wouldn't matter what they look like in the past but here they are standing side by side with rep Lloyd's from the future and their designs don't match up with the current technology seems like a pretty big nail in the coffin but let's continue anyways given the two previous examples of how art style and character design are separate and that when a character design has changed it's an actual physical change that you can see and feel if you were to reach out and touch them the drastically different 0 we see in the Megaman zero series is obviously an upgraded body and not just a new way of drawing zero this is even more evident when you look at mega man's progression through this timeline if we look at the changes made to mega man's design assuming each one is a new technological leap we can clearly see how his body becomes closer and closer to looking human if we were to follow the logic that we cannot separate a new art direction from a new character design that would imply that each new game with a new art style retro actively changes the designs for the entire Mega Man franchise all the way back to Mega Man one what's more likely that each new entry in the Mega Man series retcons the designs of every single character or that each new entry simply adds a new design on top of the previous ones as time progresses can you really imagine the original Mega Man having a super skinny type body like vol nut why is it too hard to assume that every hundred years or so the technology would advance and thus would change the way that characters look as well in the span of just 10 years we're driving drastically different looking cars from the ones that we grew up with robots in mega man can change bodies just like you change your clothes but you haven't changed just your clothes have let's look at it this way if we were to look at you when you were 10 years old versus while you're 30 it's not like it's just you but in a new art style there is actual physical changes that took place for robots and Reploids that physical change is basically the same thing zero looked like this when he first started out one eternity later and add a few hundred years to him and he looks like this once we hit this point in the theory people are quick to point out omegas role in this they latch on to the word original from the game's dialogue and assume original means X era zero but why can't it just mean the slim body that we see him with now here's another example role is wearing a dress that she has worn for a every long time and she gives that dress to Kalinka as a present role starts to miss her old dress so dr. light buys her an identical dress to wear so that they could match Kalinka now has the original dress and roll has a copy of that dress in the same way zeros body has been upgraded throughout the years until he looked like this his mind was taken out of his body his dress if you will and it was given to Omega as a present against his will but you know what I'm going for then zero was given a new body for his mind to wear which looked identical to the one that was given away making sense so far so now that we know that art style and character design are two separate things and we know that zero has periodically updated his body over the timeline let's have a quick rundown of the events in order zero starts off in his x1 body he gets a bad case of death but gets up great at it next - he rolls around in that body for a while until around x8 where he gets a sleek new frame and somewhere in the interim of the X series and the zero series he gets yet another upgrade to his body - look how it does in the Mega Man Zero series from Mega Man Zero one and onward for instance if we were to take zero as he appears in Mega Man Zero but look at him through the art style of Mega Man X one he might look something like this and if we were to take someone like gate from x6 and see him through the lens of Mega Man Zero he might look something like this well heck why don't we get crazy what have we took the cast of Mega Man and showed them google lens of codename kids next door their art styles may be drastically different but they are all physically the same as their original counterparts as we draw to a conclusion let's go over a few things so far we've confirmed that design and art style are two separate things one you can draw something at a different art style and have the character remain physically the same - you can draw something with a different design and have the art style be exactly the same and three you can draw something with a different design and a different art style at the same time the way you draw something and what you are actually drawing don't have to be linked another way to look at it is like the data of a saved game on your memory card zero started out with the save data for zero percent completion over time he built it up to 100 percent completion then Omega comes along and steals zeros memory card but before he gets away completely your buddy X makes a copy of that data to put on your spare card that doesn't mean that Omega stole the game data when it was at zero percent completion he stole it with you 100 percent completion data after zero spent years cultivating it zero not having his original anymore is just using a spare card so in conclusion Omega looks like the Mega Man Zero design not because of an art change but in addition to an art style change the actual in universe reason he looks this way is probably because zero had upgraded his body over the course of a hundred years of maverick hunting so that when it was stolen by Omega they were stealing his current body and not his ex series one original in this case means the body that zero owns and progressively upgraded and not the one he was initially built with timeline anomaly stabilized it shouldn't complete - thank goodness looks like I managed to clear this one up this was pretty tough for my first time stabilization mission I hope missions in the future will be a little easier with that theory successfully debunked I had better get back into the timestream and look for any other discrepancies or ripples that jolts might have caused I hope you'll all join me on the next episode of deep bunker buster [Music] [Music] [Music]
