David Ellefson Slams 'Abusive' Relationship With Megadeth's Dave Mustaine

[Music] mega death front man dave mustaine has been out promoting his new record the sick the dying in the dead which is out everywhere now he's also out as direct support for five finger death punch on their current north american tour he's been making those rounds he was on the joe rogan experience a great appearance there and he was also on sirius xm trunk nation and during that appearance he spoke about david ellison we know david ellison was personally dismissed by dave mustain last year after a private video leaked online and we knew there was more to that situation because in the statement he cited there was an already strained relationship that was a factor of consideration for them but in recent weeks david ellison too has been giving interviews he has a new band out called the lucid and he's been very complimentary of dave mustain he spoke of wanting and hoping to mend fences at some point with dave mustaine he was really professional in his interview but during this interview on siriusxm dave mustain said that david ellison put a really dumb ass part in a song he felt that he was pathetic in that effort to contribute to the album and was not as complementary of david ellison as he was of dave mustain now here's exactly what dave mustain said during trunk nation he said quote i came in one morning producer johnny k was in there working on a song named king maker king maker was done and i came there and i heard ellison and johnny k in there recording a part in the beginning of the song and it had nothing to do with the song it had nothing the riff in there was nowhere and i came in and said what are you two doing and you know they're trying to explain i'm gonna [ __ ] poach your song and i'm gonna put one of my riffs in front of the song and it was so pathetic i just felt so sorry for the two of them i just said go ahead leave it in there but if you listen to king maker tonight when you go home you're gonna hear the beginning of the song there's a really dumb ass part in there and that's it so that raised a lot of eyebrows it's clear that dave mustaine is not so much a fan of his contributions to that song and in a new interview on the 2020 podcast david ellison has responded to those comments last week this was transcribed by blabbermouth now here is what david ellison had to say he said quote the record was done or at least my base parts were and dave at the end of the session at the end of the day he said to me hey man if you want to go through the record if there's anything you want to add or tweak or change blah blah blah blah blah giving me free license to do so because he had signed off on everything so i said all right no problem so after he left me and chris broderick and johnny k sat in the studio and i said you know i do have this one little bit this little thing and i showed it to them and broader it goes dude that would be really cool at the beginning of kingmaker and i said huh interesting idea and in my opinion i think king maker is probably the better song on the record just off the top for me johnny liked it we sat and we worked on it and put it together and we were all excited dave walks in the next day in a much different mood grumpy i might add and not feeling so joyous as the night before and i think either me or johnny said hey i've got something i want you to listen to that we worked on last night and there was this kind of disapproving look and johnny plays it for him all excited because i think the three of us all heard the same thing hey if you want to add something if you want to work on something please do well dave didn't seem to maybe remember that conversation and so what we walked into was why the hell are you messing with my song and i think he pulled broderick aside and said don't you dare add david ellison's stuff to my songs ellison then added that he felt that he was more so kicked out of the band because dave mustain resented him in his opinion he said i kind of saw the events of last year as just the perfect opportunity to choose box office over brotherhood i look back at it now and i feel like i got kicked out of hell so whatever it was abusive for sure it was just abusive it was unnecessary dave even said he had a resentment toward me that he couldn't let go and i don't know what it was he then pointed out that dave has been taking shots at him through the media he said he's fighting with himself he's in a game of tug-of-war with himself i'm not fighting with him i've just moved on i remember we talked about that after he jammed with metallica in the big four i said how was that night playing am i evil and he said he goes you know those guys kicked me out of the band and they just moved on i held on to the resentment all those years it's like the same thing for me it's like why is he resenting me he got rid of me supposedly the problem should have been away if he got rid of me but the problem still seems to be there look i think a part of it too is he's obviously not gotten over this thing about being fired from metallica so he wanted to do to somebody else what he felt they did to him which is kick him out and then somebody else play his guitar part so let's kick junior out and then have somebody else play bass parts and to me i'm like i don't care i already [ __ ] helped put the record together i played on the record i got paid to be on the record so hey if you want to get someone else to play whatever so obviously ellison really does sound like he has moved on and he's just not bothered by this at all and that comes through through the interviews that he's done he's been very nice but for some reason mustaine is still taking issue and seems to have a real problem with ellison and when ellison was removed from the ban last year a lot of mega death fans were disappointed and compared it to that situation with metallica as well as we are now seeing dave ellison doing two what do you think in the comments if you're a
