Dating in Germany 🇩🇪 | WHAT TO EXPECT | American in Germany

i feel like this is going to be an awkward video but let's just go for it hi guys and welcome back to my channel as you can see from the title this video is going to be about dating in germany and i kind of was a little bit you know just on the on the edge about making this video because yeah i don't know i don't know everything but i do want to share my experiences and i know a lot of my subscribers have been asking me via instagram how is it dating in germany how was it for you dating in germany as a black woman how was it etc etc just throwing a lot of questions at me and i kind of just answered them not really in depth and i kind of feel bad about that so that's kind of the main reason about making this video as well as i think it's just gonna be a fun video to make before we even go any further i need to throw a disclaimer out there for these types of videos i always have to put a disclaimer because a lot of people do take other people's experiences in a whole other way that you maybe did not even mean it so i'm just throwing out this disclaimer right now that anything that i talk about in this video regarding dating in germany is based on my experiences and my experiences only i am entitled to my experiences as well as i'm entitled to talk about my experiences no one's experience is wrong i'm not saying your experience is wrong i'm not saying my experience is wrong but again this video is just supposed to be something fun lighthearted and just you know talk to you guys about my experiences dating in germany so without further ado let's just jump right into this video so let's basically just start from the very beginning i want to just talk about what type of dating apps i used when i was dating in germany and then we can just go from there and get the whole picture of my dating experience in germany so the dating apps that i used in germany when i was single before i met my boyfriend was tinder and bumble and tinder and bumble works the exact same way that it works in the u.s it is the exact same app obviously if you have used tinder or bumble i'm sure you know how it works so that's basically what i would use in germany to you know go on dates you know find find a person find my person that's what i used so i more so was using tinder because i felt on bumble i was getting really lazy and forgetting to message people back and forth so i wasn't meeting so much people on bumble mainly because of my own fault as well as i will say that on bumble i think that i met a lot more stranger people than i did on tinder and i don't know why that is because i've heard it the complete opposite that women actually tend to find stranger people on tinder because everybody knows about tinder but for me per se i was finding a lot of strange strange people on bumble and on the start they were just already on level 10 and i don't even know this person we'll get into that a little bit later but those are basically the apps that i use let's now transition into you know when i would meet someone via tinder or meet someone via bumble my experience dating on tinder was i think it's more or less like the same experience that you would have in the us it was just you know generic conversations in the beginning how's your how's your day going um what's your name what's your hobby what did you study etc etc what was a little bit different in germany now because i'm a foreigner you can obviously tell that i'm a foreigner because of my profile picture the main questions that i would be getting is oh where are you from like what are you doing here in germany do you speak german those kind of questions which is fine because i am a foreigner in this country so people are going to be curious you know when they're trying to get to know you and they basically just want to you know they want to date you you know so these are the type of questions that i was getting off jump and i would say on tinder about 90 of those questions did not lead in a negative way they kind of were okay i didn't get anything further anything poking anything disrespectful and this is where we get into the topic of bumble which i was talking to you guys about before how it got a little bit weird so these types of questions which i would get on bumble with these guys the guys that i would match with majority of them they would obviously ask you know the where are you from question which is fine because you're trying to get to know somebody but then it would go into a kind of weird turn and i don't know why i'm bumble it always went really weird they would be like oh you know i've never dated a black girl before what is it like being a black girl like it was all it was always going into that weird territory and then i had to automatically block the person because that is fetishizing and i'm not about that and i always seem to get like the weird fetish people on bumble and i don't know why um at some point i kind of just didn't i didn't really delete the app of bumble but i was not that active on bumble it was there but i didn't really use bumble because of that reason so then my main dating app then became tinder after that i just also want to mention that most guys that i did end up speaking to via bumble or tinder in germany they were white or non-black simply because there just wasn't an abundance of black or african american men on tinder or bumble so i would say what to expect if you are trying to date in germany is you're going to be getting that where are you from questions so while texting you know in germany via these dating apps or even when you move away from the dating apps and start texting you know via whatsapp or text message in germany what i found a little bit different is the you know dry humor kind of like it's like a joke that you don't actually you know laugh at um i wouldn't say all of my experiences were like that but i did meet with some guys where there were really really dry humor but i guess that could also be just because of the translation difference when they're speaking in english maybe the joke just doesn't translate but i was just not really feeling the you know the dry humor german men are obviously not aliens they're not another species they are men and men are the same everywhere the difference for me dating in germany just got a little bit you know complicated only because of the language barrier and i do find that germans in general men and women don't really have much of a filter sometimes especially when they just meet someone so i guess that also relates to the bluntness about germans it kind of threw me for a loop just because some of these bluntness some of this blunt questions i feel like you shouldn't be asking on a first date or you shouldn't be asking until you really you know know the person but i was getting some of these questions definitely at the very beginning on the first date and it was just a little bit off-putting and for example it would just be again the obviousness i am a foreigner i am a black woman and some questions i feel like i don't know you should read the room and you shouldn't ask these types of questions to someone that you don't know especially to black women in general so i was getting some of those questions you can imagine on like the first or second day and it was just like womp i don't really know how i feel about that like i don't really want to date someone who is just kind of like focusing their whole attention on my skin color and my blackness try to see me as a woman at this moment a woman that you're trying to get to know so that was some of the things that i encountered more than more often than not which i just want to you know say that if you are a black woman and you want a date in germany that's something that's just going to happen and i'm not saying that this topic shouldn't come up at all i'm just saying that it shouldn't come up in a way that's like you're a zoo animal and they're just so blown away that you are here and that your skin is so dark and in that type of way because obviously you know the differences you should talk about as a couple if you're dating this person but you know there's some limits to what things you can ask so i would say just look out for that so i don't really care that much or stress that much that the man should be paying for you when you go to dinner but i feel like this next topic i feel like i personally stress this and i think this to me really means something and i i will not tolerate if a guy does not actually you know do this for me as i would do it for him as well it's reciprocal talking about chivalry and dating and i will compare it again to dating in the u.s what i mean by chivalry another word for it could be manners i categorize chivalry and manners in the same pocket basically for me in the u.s you always see men opening doors for their wives or their girlfriends or women in general like people in general just not letting the door slam in someone's face as you you know you're going through and they're coming you just leave the door open or if someone drops their paper you pick it up that's what i mean about manners and i'm trying to transition that into the manners and chivalry of dating for me i feel like i have a lot of manners i i don't know i was raised that way i feel like i always open doors for other people i always you know say sorry excuse me if i bump past somebody by accident like oh my god i'm so sorry and keep moving not just bump and then run past but i feel like in germany talking about dating i think the chivalry bit is missing and that could only just be because i i think it's just maybe cultural difference because in the u.s i feel like they stress you know this manner it's just something that is like built into society more or less i am not saying it 100 but i feel like where the people that i'm surrounded by in new york that i see in my town they have manners they have this chivalry-ness about them if i see couples i'll give you guys one example i used to be a waitress and i would work between being a waitress and being the person that you know checks people in and seats people and i'll never forget this one scenario where this family was coming in it's a dad his wife and two kids and the boy just ran into buffalo wild wings he just ran in with the door like there's two doors to enter he just ran in and just left everybody behind and i will never forget i watched him run in the father came storming in really quick like he ran in grabbed up the sun and told him right in front of me at the stand he was just like that's not how it works you saw your mother there you ran past her you did not even hold the door open for your mother or your sister come back here you need to start over and do it again i like this sort of you know mannerism type thing and it is kind of something that i don't really see here in germany i've had doors slammed in my face on dates and it's not like i'm waiting for them to even open the door it's just that they move so quickly out the door that i didn't even have time to hold the door myself i've had situations like that i've had guys you know speed past me basically we're on a date but they're like leading me somewhere not walking next to me but rather in front of me running away kind of like situation and i'm just i was blown away by that so that's something that i'm actually happy that i don't have to do anymore because i have a boyfriend so i think that's basically all that i really want to talk about with dating in germany i think everything else in my opinion is similar to dating any other man from any other country just some little cultural differences here or there which i mentioned in this video which i thought were a little bit different than you know dating in new york i really hope you guys enjoyed this video i would love to hear what you guys experienced dating in
