[OMINOUS MUSIC PLAYS] LAURIE: No! No, no, no, no... [THUD]
[GLASS SHATTERING] [HEELS TAPPING] LAURIE: Dad, stop! [ALICE GASPS] LAURIE: Help me! [ALICE SHRIEKS] [HEAVY BREATHING] ["SHINE ON, HARVEST MOON"
BY HENRY BURR AND FRANK STANLEY PLAYS] "Oh, shine on," "Shine on, harvest moon" [CHILDREN CRYING] Laurie? LAURIE: Mom? Mom, help us,
please! He's gonna kill us! - RACHEL: Mom?
- DANNY: Mama! [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS] [ALICE SCREAMS]
LAURIE: Mom? Mom! [GORY CRUNCH] [ALICE GARGLING] LAURIE: Mom are you okay? [GHOSTLY GROWL] LAURIE: Someone help us! [GULP] [DISTANT SCRATCHING] [SCRATCHING IN CEILING] [YAWNING] [VERA SIGHS] [ETHAN COUGHS] Hey, bud.
You're up early. ETHAN: Couldn't sleep. Why not? I miss my old room. You'll adjust. It's only our first night. Why are you up so early? I guess I'm adjusting, too. When's Wes going to get here? He'll be here soon. He's just closing the deal
on our old apartment, and then he's gonna bring the rest
of our stuff up from Birmingham. Whatcha looking at? Family photos.
Wanna see? Recognize them? [ETHAN CHUCKLES] Of course, silly. That's me, that's you,
and that's Wes. [VERA GIGGLES]
Yeah, that's right. I miss mom and dad. Me, too. But they're watching over us, now. Hey... ...since we're both up so early, how about I go make us pancakes? So, do you want blueberry or chocolate chip or original
with just some syrup? There's too much to decide. [VERA GIGGLES] VERA: These are some
tough life choices, bud. Hey, where can I put my birdhouse? I think I saw a nice bench out
front you can put it on. Hey, and after that, you need to
come in and clean up. Wes will be home any minute. [FRONT DOOR OPENS] [DOOR CLOSES] DANNY & RACHEL: Ethan. Vera, is that you? [DANNY & RACHEL LAUGH] [DANNY & RACHEL GIGGLE] Hey! Hey, wait up! [SCRATCHING IN CEILING] [VERA GASPS] You alright? [LAUGHING]
I'm sorry, you scared me. Well, I think I'm calling it a night. Hey, uh, were you
in the attic just now? I thought I heard something. Attic's locked... ...don't have a key. Look, it's an old house, you're
gonna hear strange noises. Just don't let it get to you. [VERA SIGHS] Goodnight. [SCRATCHING BEGINS AGAIN] [VERA EXHALES] [DISTANT SCRATCHING] [SCRATCHING CONTINUES] [CLAWING ON DOOR] [SCRATCHING HALTS] [HANDLE SQUEALS] [DOOR WHINES] [CHEST LID CREAKING] Ethan? [FRONT DOOR UNLOCKING] Looking good in here, Sis. Oh, you remembered. Ethan, go wash your hands. Wes, I can't find my comic books. [CLIMBING STAIRS] They have to be around here
somewhere. We packed them. I packed them. And I can't find them anywhere,
which I should know, because we've been unpacking
these boxes all day. [SINK GURGLING] [ATTIC DOOR CREAKING] Busy day, huh? Oh yeah, work, work, work. Any interesting new stories? [HOWLING DRAFT] [THADDEUS WHISPERS]
Ethan... Ethan... [ETHAN SCREAMING]
[THUD] Ethan? [ETHAN PANICS] Ethan? Ethan! VERA: Ethan! WES: Are you alright? I saw something. What did you see? A monster. Where? Wes, no! I'll be alright, bud. It tried to attack me. Ethan, buddy,
there's nothing over here. Yeah, and Ethan, you shouldn't have
been up here in the first place, especially not in the dark. My comic books were in here. Are you hurt? I hit my head. Can you stand up? I think so. Alright, c'mon,
let's get you downstairs. You about scared us to
death, buddy. [THADDEUS CHUCKLES] [CRICKETS CHIRPING] [HOUSE SETTLING] [SOFT BREATHING] [SNORING] [GENTLE BREATHS] [GHOSTLY WHISPERS] Okay, remember Ethan,
look, don't touch. I'm not five, you know. [WES LAUGHS] Welcome to Hyatt's Antiques! Be with you in a minute! Hey Vera, look at this. ALFRED: Cute, isn't it? That belonged to a local family. It's been sitting there
collecting dust for thirty years. I can't believe no one wanted it. You're new in town, aren't you? Just moved in. It came from an old house
on the old back road. The locals think it's haunted. [CHUCKLE] Several brutal murders
happened there. VERA: How awful. But, it's just a legend, right? I mean, every town
has something like this. If you say so. I'm so sorry, I didn't
introduce myself. My name is Alfred. It's nice to meet you.
I'm Vera. You know, it's crazy, but I think I've seen you
somewhere before. I don't think so. He's just being modest. You probably saw him on the news. Yes, that's it. I'm Wes. Oh, and this right here is Ethan. Hello. Where did you get this? It was in an old trunk in our attic. We were wondering if you could
tell us something about it. WES: Yeah. [GROWLING] Where did you say you found this? In our attic. No, what house? It's out on the old county road. Belle Halcyon? The one with the big columns. I'm sorry folks, I don't think
I can help you with this. But it is an antique, right? It's nothing valuable. I suggest you get rid of it. Get rid of it? Yes, yes, yes. Look, I'm really very sorry. There's nothing I can
do to help you. Nothing. Do yourselves a favor. Get out of that house. [TYPING] [SCRATCHING] [SIGHS]
I swear, there's got to be a
hundred rats in that attic. [WES TYPING] VERA: I hate to say it, but we're gonna
have to call the exterminator. Great. Something else
we can't afford. Are finances that bad? Heading that way. Well... ...if we need to, we could
sell some things. This house is full of antiques. That is absolutely
out of the question. I, uh... ...I mean, I don't think we should. They're part of the house. Should you be drinking all that
coffee right before you go bed? You know it makes you cranky. I'm not cranky, I just have
a lot of work to get done. I understand, I just
wanted to let you know. Thanks. [SIGHS] How's Ethan? He's sleeping. I think he finally got over what
happened the other night. That's good. Better yet... ...how are things at work? I'm trying to make the best of it. But ever since I've come back,
they think they can load me up. And with inflation through the roof,
they know I can't afford to say "no". Just promise me something. What? Promise me that you won't fall
into the same trap as last time. Vera, I'm trying my best. Just promise me, Wes. Alright, I promise. Thank you. Well, I'm going up. Try not to stay up too late yourself. [SWITCH ON] [TYPING] WES: You know,
it's the strangest thing. She keeps hearing this scratching,
but we can't figure out what's making it. Could be mice or squirrels. You know, that's what
we thought, too, but, uh... RICK: Well, they could be burrowing
through the walls, which can lead to all
kinds of problems. Such as? Worst case scenario, they could chew through
the electrical and that could start a fire. Oh, great. Well, let's hope not. Alright, well, uh, I'll let you get to your work. Alright. [SCRATCHING ON WOOD] [BOARDS CRACKLING] [WOOD CRASHES] [ROAR] [RICK SCREAMING] [FLESH TEARING] [RICK GRIMACES IN PAIN] [THADDEUS]
Get out! Okay. Okay, yeah sure, I'll take it. Yeah, thanks. What's wrong? Some big new story they
want me to cover on top of my usual stuff. Is it a lot? It's an ongoing investigation. It's gonna take
several nights a week. Well, everything'll be alright. You'll get through this. Yeah. C'mon, it's late and you
need to get some sleep. Yeah, I'll be up in a bit.
I've got a few things to do. Alright. Goodnight. Goodnight. [SNIFFING] [ETHAN LAUGHING] Lights out, two minutes. [SCRATCHING IN CEILING] [SCRATCHING IN WALL] [BANG] [SCRATCHING BENEATH BED] [SCRATCHING IN WALL] [ROCKING CHAIR SQUEAKS] [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS]
[GHOSTLY BREATH] [GHOSTLY BREATH CONTINUES] [CRACKLING BONES] [ETHAN SCREAMING] [RATTLING DOOR] No, come on. Open! Here, move! Come on, move! Move! VERA: Ethan! Oh, Ethan! WES: What's wrong?
What happened? ETHAN: Someone's in here! What? What... where? There. Over there. Ethan, buddy, no one is here. No, Wes, I saw it with my own eyes. No, honey, it's just
your imagination. No! I know what I saw! It started scratching
all over the walls and then, it attacked me. I think it wants to hurt me. DOCTOR MACNEIL: Now Ethan... ...I think it's best if you stay up here
and take it easy for the rest of today. Alright? I don't wanna. I think it's best if you do. Hm... ...is it because you're afraid? Remember what we
discussed, Ethan? [SIGHS] Face my fears. Uh-huh. That's right. It'll be alright. We're just gonna go downstairs. Do you want me to
keep your door open? We're just going to go
down and talk for a bit, and then, I'll come
back up to see you. Alright? Alright. See you later, Ethan. [TV STATIC] Good evening. I'm Wes Winters filling in
tonight for Tom Harris. Crime and government red tape are no
longer just the issues of big American cities. They're now reaching small towns. For many small cities and towns, city halls are struggling to deal with increasingly
complex economic and social problems, some of which are beginning
to threaten their ways of life. Over the next two months, I will be
conducting an ongoing investigation, looking at the difficulties many small
American cities are now facing and what this means for North Alabama. [CRICKETS CHIRPING] [EERIE MUSIC] [VERA BREATHING HEAVILY] [VERA GASPS] [GHOSTLY EXHALE] [VERA HYPERVENTILATING] Ethan, what are you doing in my bed? The scratching was too loud,
I couldn't sleep. [SIGHS]
Ethan, buddy. [DISTANT SCRATCHING] Stay here. [SCRATCHING CONTINUES] [NERVOUS BREATHING] [WHAM] [DEEP SCRATCHES ON DOOR] [HEAVY BREATHING] [SCRATCHING CEASES]
[DOOR SQUEALS OPEN] [DRAFTY AIR] Who is that? Who's up there? [HOUSE GROANING] Whoever you are, you'd better show yourself right now,
or I'm going to call the police! [FEROCIOUS SCRATCHING] [SCRATCHING HALTS] Part of the family,
part of the house. [GASPS] ALICE: Part of the family,
part of the house. [SHRIEKS] [CHEST LID CREAKING] [PANTING] [GHOSTLY EXHALE] [WHOOSH]
[VERA SCREAMS] [VERA PANICS] [VIOLENT SCRATCHING] Stop! Please, no! [VERA CRYING] Nothing. No, Wes, I know I saw something. Then, I don't know what else to say. There's nothing up there. Do you think I'm lying? I think this move has been
stressful on all of us. Wes, I don't like it here.
I want to go home. This is our home. There's nothing to be scared of. I know it isn't easy,
but you have to move on. Don't forget, we moved here
to get away from the past. We packed up our memories,
we packed up our clothes... ...but all of this? We agreed to leave that behind us. Wes, that is not what this is about. While you're out there, I'm here... ...in a different town, in a
different house, and I'm alone. You have Ethan. Wes, that's not the
same, and you know it. Look, while you're out in
the adult world, I'm just... Jumping at shadows. [WES SIGHS] Wait. I'm sorry. Look, tomorrow's Friday. I'll take off early. And we'll all
have dinner together, and uh, maybe we'll go see a
movie or something. Okay? Alright. [GRAVEL CRUNCHING] VERA: See, isn't this exciting? Vera, why do bad things
happen to good people? Um... I don't know, Ethan. I... I don't know. Everything happens for
a reason I guess. But why did God take mom
and dad away from us? Some things, we just can't explain. But we don't go through
anything we can't handle. But why are bad things
happening to us here? Well, Ethan, maybe it isn't God. Maybe it's the devil. Is there something
wrong with Wes? Why? I don't know.
He seems different. I mean, like after mom and dad died... ...but worse. He's had a lot of bad
breaks lately, but... ...he's trying to keep it
together now. But when I talk to him, it seems like
he's a completely different person. Are you scared of him? Sometimes. Ethan. Wes would never do
anything to hurt you. I wouldn't let him. Understand? Uh-huh. Hey, look over there. I didn't even know that
was on the property. I'll race ya to the pier! Ethan, we don't know that
it's safe! VERA: Ethan, please slow down!
That pier might be dangerous. [VERA PANTING] ETHAN: Ha ha, beat you. VERA: Alright Ethan, you win. VERA: Let's walk the rest
of the way, huh? ETHAN: Okay. VERA: Alright. VERA: Hey, careful.
Stay close to me. VERA: Isn't it beautiful? VERA: I can't believe we didn't
know this was back here. ETHAN: Yeah. VERA: Oh, we should go
swimming next summer! Doesn't that sound like fun? ETHAN: Yeah. VERA: It's peaceful out here,
don't you think? Yeah. We'll have to show
Wes, he'll love it! Yeah. "Yeah." Is that the
best you can do? Yeah. C'mon, we'd better get
back to the house. I'll race ya! VERA: Last one back to the
house is a rotten egg! ETHAN: Hey, no fair! VERA: C'mon, you're gonna
have to run faster than that! VERA: I'm beating ya!
I'm winning! [SIGHS] [TELEPHONE RINGING] [ON PHONE]
WES: Hey, I meant to call earlier. Wes, you promised. I know, but... It's a big story, and you
can't afford to lose your job. So, you can't be mad at me. Can't you just say "no"? This story could be a big break for me. Wes, it was just for one night. I've got a lot to do. Don't wait up. [PHONE CLICKS]
[DIAL TONE] [THUD] [FAST BREATHING] [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS] I think I'm losing my mind. Aren't the antidepressants helping? I'm not taking my antidepressants. Vera, in order to get better it is imperative to
take your medication exactly as prescribed. No... no... it's... it's... I... I can't find them anywhere. It's like they just
vanished into thin air. Some of the side effects when you
abruptly stop taking your antidepressants include the experiencing of
disturbing thoughts or images. But Ethan's seen them, too! What about your brother, Wes? Has
he also experienced these... ...occurrences? [EXHALES] Wes has a way to
explain everything. It's... But you know what, he's
got his own problems, okay? I thought he was
in a better place, but he has gone to
a much darker place, and it's way worse
than five months ago. Miss Winters, I'm going
to ask this just once, and I only want you to answer
if you feel completely comfortable. Have you experienced any kind of
mistreatment from your brother? Physical or mental? No! No, Wes isn't... He would never, okay? There's something you have
to understand about Wes, he is the most compassionate
person I know. He would do anything
for Ethan and me. He's been through
so much trauma, and he just bottles it all inside because
he thinks he has to be strong for us. He went through so much
trauma during the war, and then, with the accident
so shortly after that, it... ...it just sent him over the edge. And he has these bouts of
uncontrollable rage, but... ...that's what happens isn't it? When you've been through
that much trauma, especially as much as Wes has? I think this sudden
relapse is my fault. Oh, do you mind if check
in on Ethan before I go? You know, Ethan's just really tired
after everything that's happened. I think it's better if
we just let him sleep. Then, that's all the more
reason I should check in on him. Doctor MacNeil, I appreciate it,
but we should wait until next time. Vera, clearly something about your
brother has disturbed you, and... ...I feel like there's something
you're not telling me. Are you and Ethan alright? You don't have to cover for your
brother, especially not to me. I'm not covering for him. Often, people construct
these fantastic stories, ghosts and ghouls to protect themselves from the
horrible truth so they can carry on. - It's perfectly...
- Doctor MacNeil, thank you so much,
but please, not right now. [SIGHS] [DISTANT THUNDER] Hm... [DOOR UNLOCKS] [FAUCET RUNNING] Ethan? [DANNY & RACHEL GIGGLE] Ethan. Don't be afraid, it's
just Doctor MacNeil. [DANNY & RACHEL LAUGHING] [GASPS] [CHOKING] [THUNDER RUMBLE] [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS UPSTAIRS] Ethan? Is that you? VERA: Ethan, are you all... [SHRIEKS] Oh, Doctor MacNeil, you scared me. What are you doing? How did you get back in? Doctor MacNeil, are you alright? Doctor MacNeil? Doctor MacNeil? [BODY TUMBLING DOWN STAIRS]
Doctor MacNeil! [SCREAMS] [THUD] What do you know? Miss, would you mind keeping
your voice down, please? What on earth are you talking about? Oh, spare me. You know something. You know that something was going on in
that house, and you didn't say a word. Now, I want to know everything. I was trying to protect you. Oh, by keeping me in the dark? I warned you to leave,
but you didn't believe me. My brother and I are
scared for our lives, and we don't know where to go or who
to turn to, and you're our only hope. Where is it? My brother, Wes,
he's wearing it. How long? Long enough. Then, I'm afraid there's
nothing left that can be done. No, I can't accept that. No. It's trying to destroy my family. Miss... Something malevolent
resides in that ring. I tried to help a family with
it back in the forties, but... ...the entity was too strong. There must be something. Alright, I know someone
who can help. [TYPEWRITER HUMMING] [POUNDING ON DOOR] [POUNDING ON DOOR] Vera? [POUNDING ON DOOR] [FLOOR SQUEAKS] [POUNDING ON DOOR] [NERVOUS BREATHING] [HANDLE POPPING] [DOOR CREAKING] [TELEVISION STATIC] [BONES CRACKING] [DOOR SQUEALS] [DOOR SLAMS] [HEAVY BREATHING] [DOOR CREAKS, SLAMS] [DOOR CREAKS, SLAMS] Part of the family. Part of the house. [DOOR WHINES] [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS] [PANICKED BREATH] Part of the family,
part of the house. Part of the family,
part of the house. Part of the family,
part of the house. [SPLAT]
Part of the family,
part of the house. [CRACK]
Part of the family,
part of the house. [CRUNCH]
Part of the family,
part of the house. Part of the family,
part of the house. Part of the family,
part of the house. No! [WOOD BREAKING] [PANTING] [CHAIR POPS] [PHANTOM BREATH] [GASPS] [DEMONIC GROWL]
No... No... No! [TELEVISION STATIC] [SHEETS RUSTLE] [WHOOSH]
["SHINE ON, HARVEST MOON" BLARES] [SIGHS] [DOOR CREAKS] Ethan, what are you
doing out of bed? Are you okay? [LAMP SWITCH CLICKS] Ethan, why won't
you answer me? What happened
to your neck? Ethan, please, say
something. Just talk to me. Talk to me. He tried to kill me. Who? The man in the secret room. [HOWLING DRAFT] [BREATHING] [INTENSE GUST] [GHOSTLY BREATH] [GHOSTLY EXHALE] [MATCH STRIKE] THADDEUS: Good evening,
Mister Winters. [KNOCKING] Wes? WES: It's me. [LOCK CLICKS] [DOOR CREAKS] What did you see? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And you were up in the room in the
attic? The same one Ethan was in? Yes, there's only
one room up there. And you didn't find anything? I didn't see a thing. How's Ethan? I put him to bed.
I think he's sleeping. That's for the best. [DOOR SQUEALS] I'm sure he'll be much
better by tomorrow. Just like last time. But there must've
been some mistake. There must be more
than one room. It had to be the same room. There was a hole in the
wall just like Ethan said. But that just... ...that doesn't make any sense. I mean, how else do you
explain his injuries? Something had to have
happened to him. Ethan... ...must've done it to himself. Uh-uh. I won't accept that. Outside of everything he's told us,
there isn't anything else. With everything going on, he
hasn't gotten enough attention. I think this is his way
of letting us know. Are you kidding? Well, how do you explain it? I can't. But I know someone who can. The antique shop owner, he has a
sister, and she's a parapsychologist. Maybe she can help us. Oh, this is just like you to
do something this crazy once I'm finally bringing
in some money. And I bet they're giving you a great
discount just because you're so desperate. How much deeper in debt do I
have to go before you realize? Living under a bridge? Digging through dumpsters? Holding little signs
at intersections? Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Wes... Vera, I think the only demons
you're facing are your own. We don't need someone
to help the house, we need someone to help you. [DOOR CREAKS] [DISTANT CHATTER] JACKIE: Excuse me, miss? VERA: Please, leave me alone. But I'm Doctor Jackie Hyatt... ...from the university. Oh, please forgive me. I'm Vera. Nice to meet you. So... ...how does a psychologist become
involved in the supernatural? Well, actually, I grew up
with psychic abilities, so I thought it was a good idea
to pursue parapsychology. Did Alfred tell you anything
about what's been happening? Only in a very general way. Did he tell you
about my brother? Only that you have two. So he really didn't tell you
anything about our experiences? No, not a word. So... ...I guess he wanted to rely on
your judgment? Well, that's usually the case. The university is a bit skeptical
of my department. It isn't widely accepted in
the academic community. So... ...say someone approaches you because they believe they're
experiencing paranormal phenomena. What do you do? Well, first, I would need to
research the case myself to see if there's any
weight to the claim. And what if this person
believes a spirit is trying to control someone else? Well, then I would highly suggest seeking
psychological treatment before diving off into the supernatural. Well, it just so happens that I
think my house is haunted. Uh... it's um... ...It's changing my older brother, and
I think it's trying to hurt my family. Well, then, that's further reason to
look for a medical explanation first. Why? Well, because if there is a
psychological problem, looking to the paranormal will only
make the situation a lot worse. Nothing could make this worse. You don't understand. Before the university will even
think about opening this, I've got to do a
psychological exam first. And if that fails, I have to provide physical
proof that there's intervention needed. Can you please just
come to the house? Well, yes, I can, but I have to
perform a psychological exam. No, that's not what we need. I already saw a psychiatrist, and even she
was even attacked. You're our last hope. Why won't anyone help us? Look, you're... you're
still not understanding. No, I know my brother. You could create a copy that looks and sounds
just like him, but you couldn't fool me. I'd know it was a fake. In my heart
and my soul, I would know. And this person who is living in my house,
parading around as him isn't my brother. Now, when you
come to the house, you better be absolutely certain
that all that is wrong with us is just in our heads and isn't
something paranormal! You better be certain. [CAR APPROACHING] [ENGINE SHUTS OFF] It feels like it's watching us. Yeah. [PHANTOM WHISPER] ALFRED: Sensing something? JACKIE: It wants us here. [KNOCKING] [UNLOCK] [DOOR SQUEAKS] VERA: Thanks for coming.
Please, come in. JACKIE: Are you alone? VERA: Um... No. Ethan, my little brother,
he's upstairs somewhere. He's just a little shy. And your other brother?
Where's... Wes? Uh, he's at work. He actually doesn't know I
invited you here today. Uh... ...he won't be home
until later tonight. So, where should we start? Uh, I think we should start where
the most activity is occurring. That'll be the attic.
This way. With everything happening, why not just leave? Uh... trust me, I would if
I could, but um... ...things are tight. We sank our inheritance
into fixing this place. Yeah, we stay out of there. Without the key to lock it,
we did the best we could. [DOOR SQUEAKS] [INDISTINCT SCREAMING] WOMAN: Part of the family,
part of the house. VOICES: Part of the family,
part of the house. [GORY CRUNCH]
[JACKIE GASPS] [DISORIENTED BREATHS] [HEAVY BREATHING] Did you pick something up? Al, this isn't good. It isn't good. JACKIE: Usually this is something I like
to ease my clients into slowly, but it just... It just takes too long and I don't.... I don't think we have
much time to waste. VERA: Are we in danger? [SIGHS]
It's difficult to explain... There's.... ...there's so much pain here. So much yearning and remorse. Terror... grief... and anger. This place is infested with spirits, caught in the paramagnetic
grip of this house. The what? It's... it's the darkness. See, it's a magnetic force
created by tragic events that release psychic energy
into the surroundings. It works much the same
way as a battery. The darkness is attracted to the negative energy that's released
by trauma and distress. It inspires negative energy, and it inflicts anger and sorrow into the minds of its inhabitants. But... ...that still isn't enough. It requires bloodshed to survive. See, the souls it's claimed remain trapped in limbo between
our world and the next. They're merely pawns, tortured souls that are made to relive
their demise over and over again just... just for this house's pleasure. But there's... there's one spirit
that frightens me, though. In many ways, it seems to be
the heart of this house. What does it want? It wants your brother, Wes. More specifically, it wants
to be your brother. It needs to be your brother in order
to keep this house from dying. This entity has bonded
itself to that ring, and through that can
inhabit a person's body. But I think eventually the spirit
will break its bonds with that ring and make a more permanent
one with your brother. What happens then? There won't be any of
Wes to bring back. This dark entity craves life and
will stop at nothing to get it. But first things first - we need to gather a small team
and the proper equipment. No. No, we need to leave. I need to get my family
out of here right now. Look, it won't do any good. The bonding process
has already began. Just separating yourself
from that ring or... ...or leaving this house won't...
won't do any good. This spirit craves your family. And will stop at nothing until
he devours each of you. And this isn't the first time. Your ancestors built this house, and it has a long history
of claiming their lives. I wouldn't be at all surprised if
the entity we're dealing with... ...is a member of your family. [WHISPERS]
Part of the family,
part of the house. Look, you are stronger than it is. We'll do everything in our power
to protect you and your family. Do you understand? [HANDLE POPS]
[DOOR CREAKS] Where are they? [GRUNTS] [DEEP BREATH] Wes? [PAPER RUSTLING] [KEYS CLINK] [KEY INSERTED INTO LATCH] [BRIEFCASE LATCH OPENS] [DOOR SLAMS] What do you think
you're doing? Wes! What do you think
you're doing? [VERA MUMBLES] I just thought we should talk about
what happened earlier tonight. Is it because you think
we're in danger? I'm scared for Ethan, Wes. Are you taking
your medication? Would I lie to you, Wes? I don't know? [PILL BOTTLES RATTLE] Would you? You took them? I found them in the trash. You're so far gone that you can't even
remember throwing them away. No, that's impossible.
I would never do that. How could you, Vera? I can't believe you would
do this to our family. Think of Ethan! Wes, I swear, they just vanished. Is that what all of these
ghost sightings are? Hallucinations because you
can't be a responsible adult? [PILLS SCATTER] I wouldn't even be surprised if you were the
one who attacked Ethan the other night. Wes, please just listen to
me, and take off the ring. You'll feel better. It’s preventing you from seeing the
truth, and it's trying to divide us. All this time, you've been trying to make
me out to be the monster when it's you. You leave me no choice but
to have you locked away. Wes, let go of me. [BONE CRACKS]
[VERA SHRIEKS] Vera, I'm sorry. Vera, I didn't mean to. [VERA GASPS] [FAUCET SQUEAKS]
[WATER RUNNING] [SIGHS] [GROANS] Oh, c'mon. Oh, come on. [GRUNTS] [INTENSE BREATHING] [THADDEUS CHUCKLES] [FAUCET SWITCHES OFF] [PHANTOM BREATH]
[SHEETS FLAP] [FLOOR CREAKS] [TENSE BREATHING] [LAMP SWITCH CLICKS] [BLANKETS RUSTLE] [GRUNTING] [DEMONIC ROAR] [WES SHOUTS] [HYPERVENTILATING] [WES SIGHS] Okay. WES: So, what's all of this for? JACKIE: Well, we want to see if we
can capture any phenomena that may occur during
the table tipping as proof for the university. Guy will be filming
the entire session. Chris over there will be
snapping some pictures, and Nancy will be putting
all this on tape. JACKIE: Where's Ethan? He's staying with relatives
tonight during this. He'll be back tomorrow. I think it's best that
he isn't here for this. ALFRED: Wear this. Is that really necessary? JACKIE: We need to do everything
that we can to contact the spirits. It seems that this entity
is connected to that ring, so maybe this will elicit
some kind of response. Couldn't we just put the ring back
in the box and dispose of it? I wish it were that easy, but we're worried that simply
removing the ring from the house... ...won't be enough. What about destroying it? That could make the
situation much worse. See, destroying that ring
will set him free and allowing more of a
connection with you. We'll get started when you're ready
to place the ring on your finger. [BOX LID SQUEAKS] Okay. Is everyone ready? Yes. Alright. Let's begin. Everyone place their fingertips
on the edge of the table. This will give the spirit energy. Remember, contact with a
spirit is never guaranteed. But if we do make contact, the spirit will tilt the table in response. A single tilt will mean yes, where a rocking of the
table will mean no. Whatever you do,
do not speak unless... ...you're asking a question. And absolutely do not remove
your hands from the table as this will break the circle,
and connection will be lost. Yes? Lastly, and most importantly, envision yourself surrounded by
the white light of protection. This will ward off all evil spirits. Okay. [JACKIE EXHALES] Everyone place your fingers
around the perimeter. JACKIE: Do you feel the energy
moving through the table? [WES & VERA BREATHE NERVOUSLY] Good. Let's begin. [JACKIE EXHALES] We are calling out to the
spirits of this house. If you are present,
make yourself known. JACKIE: Is anyone there? Is there anyone that
wants to make contact? JACKIE: I say again,
is there anyone there? [TABLE BUMPS] [TENSE BREATH] JACKIE: Are we in the presence
of a spirit residing in this house? [TABLE CREAKS] CHRIS: Yes! JACKIE: Were you
murdered in this house? [TABLE CREAKS] JACKIE: Did you
commit suicide? [WES GASPS] Wes, what's wrong? [PICTURES FRAME CRASHES] JACKIE: Are you the one acting
through Wes right now? [WES PANTS]
[TABLE CREAKS] [RECORD SCRATCHING] ["SHINE ON, HARVEST MOON" PLAYS]
"The night was mighty dark so you could hardly see" "For the moon refused to shine" "(The moon refused to shine)" "Couple sitting underneath" - JACKIE: Are you the one playing the music?
- "a willow tree" [TABLE SLAMS]
[VERA GASPS] Okay, this has gone too far.
We need to stop, now! JACKIE: Don't break the circle. We need to hear what
the spirit has to say. It might be our only
way to save him. Wes, can you hear me? Please, stay with us, Wes. Are you the one
oppressing this family? [WES LAUGHS] Is that what you call it? Who are you? The master of this house. What is your name? Thaddeus Moreau. [MANICAL LAUGHTER]
[TABLE CREAKS] GUY: What is this? Why don't you let my brother go? He's already mine. Now, you're all gonna die! Break the connection, now! Stop! [TABLE ROCKING] ALFRED: I command you to stop! [WES GASPS] ALFRED: Alright. Alright that... - JACKIE: Is everybody okay?
- ALFRED: Clearly we have... - JACKIE: It's over.
- VERA: Wes, are you okay? - ALFRED: ...made contact with something.
- WES: I'm okay. ALFRED: I just need everyone to be calm
and try to get your bearings together. WES: Is everyone else okay? ALFRED: I want everybody to go back through
your footage and make sure you got... Uh, Nancy. [BONES CRACKING] [DEMONIC HISS]
[NANCY SCREAMS] - ALFRED: Stop it!
- GUY: Nancy! ALFRED: Help her! For goodness
sake, help her! ALFRED: I command you... It's not
listeneing. - ALFRED: I command you to stop!
- WES: Someone help her! [NANCY SOBS]
VERA: What just happened? Did you get it? ALFRED: Please tell me you got that. [VERA CRIES]
WES: It's okay, Vera. - GUY: Yeah, we got it.
- WES: It's okay, it's gonna be okay. JACKIE: You're okay. [HINGE SQUEAKS]
[PAPER CRINKLES] [WINDING] [SWITCH CLICKS] CHRIS: Can you believe that
Nancy bailing on us like that? She had a physical
encounter with an entity, something most of
us only dream of, and instead of being in awe,
she freaked out. I guess she realized she was
in the wrong field tonight. [TIMER BUZZES]
[TAPE RECORDED CLICKS ON] - CHRIS: She'll be sleeping with the lights on for awhile.
- JACKIE: Everyone place your fingers around the perimeter. [THEY LAUGH] [TAPE RECORDER]
JACKIE: Do you feel the energy
moving through the table? [TAPE RECORDER STOPS]
[FAST FORWARD] [TAPE RECORDER ON]
JACKIE: Is anyone there? JACKIE: Is there anyone that
wants to make... [RECORDER STOPS]
[FAST FORWARD] [CHEMICAL DRIPS] [RECORDER PLAYS]
JACKIE: Were you
murdered in this house? [TABLE CREAKS] JACKIE: Did you commit suicide? [WES GASPS] VERA: Wes, what's wrong? [WES GROANS] JACKIE: Are you the one acting
through Wes right now? [WES GRUNTS]
[VERA GASPS] VERA: Okay, this has gone too far,
we need to stop, now. JACKIE: Don't break the circle, we need
to hear what the spirit has to say. JACKIE: It might be our
only way to save him. VERA: Wes? Can you hear me? VERA: Please, stay with us, Wes. [CHRIS HUMS] - CHRIS: Guy, come look at this.
- JACKIE: Are you the one
oppressing this family? [WES LAUGHS] - CHRIS: What do you make of it?
- WES: Is that what you call it? -GUY: Are you sure this isn't double
exposure or something? - CHRIS: No, I don't think so.
- ALFRED: What is your name? - CHRIS: Take a look at that one.
- WES: Thaddeus Moreau. GUY: Call Jackie.
[WES LAUGHS] [SNORING] [PHANTOM BREATH]
[RING SIZZLES] [WES INHALES] [TELEPHONE RINGS] [ON PHONE]
CHRIS: Hello? Is anyone there? It's Chris, I need to talk to Jackie. This is an emergency! Hello? [SWITCH HOOK CLICKS] [DIAL TONE] [QUICKLY PRESSING SWITCH HOOK] [RECEIVER SLAMS] [FOOTSTEPS] [SNORING] [FRONT DOOR OPENS] [DOOR SQUEAKS] [FOOTSTEPS ON GRASS] [DOOR QUIETLY OPENS] [FOOTSTEPS ON GRAVEL] [FOOTSTEPS ON GRASS] [FOOTSTEPS ON WOOD] [SPLASH] [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS] [VERA GASPS] [CHOKING] [SPLASH] [WATER SLOSHING] [VERA GASPING] [VERA GARGLING] [COUGHING] [WHOOSH] Wes, please! Please,
help me, please! [WHOOSH] [WHOOSH] [WATER SLOSHING] [WHOOSH] [THADDEUS LAUGHS MANIACALLY] [CAR IDLING] [ENGINE SHUTS OFF] Guy, there he is! Wait! [DISTANT FOOTSTEPS] Okay, go! Let's check over there. CHRIS: Hey, what's that
out in the water? [FOOTSTEPS ON WOOD] [WATER LAPPING] It's Vera! Grab her! [UNDERWATER]
[SPLASH] GUY: Come on, Vera. Breathe! - CHRIS: You can do it, Vera!
- GUY: Breathe! - CHRIS: Vera, look at me.
- GUY: You can do it, breathe! [VERA COUGHS] GUY: Oh my... [VERA SOBS]
CHRIS: Oh my God, Vera. [WES GASPS] Well, you didn't do it well
enough, Wes. She's still alive. What are you talking about? Don't give me that, you
know what you did! I didn't do anything. I've
been asleep on the couch. You tried to kill Vera! We found her floating in
the swamp out back. That's impossible. Wes, when did you
put that ring on? WES: I didn't. Where is she? She's out front with Chris. [FRONT DOOR OPENS]
WES: Vera? Oh, Vera! Vera, I'm so sorry. It wasn't me. I would
never do that to you. I know it wasn't you. Are you okay? I'm just a little shaken,
but I'm fine. Okay, good. [WHISPERS]
Hey. What's wrong? Work called me in.
Is that okay? Yeah, just don't
get into trouble. You sure? Yeah, we'll be fine. Alright. I love you. I love you, too.
Be careful. [SNORING] [DOOR OPENS] [DOOR CLOSES] [HOUSE GROANING] [JACKIE GASPS] [ALICE CRIES DISTANTLY] [MATCH STRIKES] [CANDLE WICK SIZZLES] [CRYING MORE PRONOUNCED] JACKIE: You're Alice. You were
murdered in this house. Help me stop it from
happening again. I tried. I tried to scare them
away, but it didn't work. It's too late. No... No, there has
to be something. It collects the souls
of the living... ...to torture them. But they must be taken
by someone they love. It makes them do it. But... but Wes isn't
wearing the ring. It has no control. It always has control. Once it makes
the connection, it won't stop until it destroys
every last bit of you. No! No, there has
to be another way. [ALICE GASPS] It doesn't want me
saying anymore. Please, just tell me! It will try everything
to stop you. But know, some of us here
aren't like the others. ["SHINE ON, HARVEST MOON" PLAYS] It's you, isn't it? I can sense your
foul presence. [LAUGHS]
But you don't scare me! [INTENSE BREATH] You were trapped in here. Weren't you? Your family did this to you. They boarded you up in
here with nothing but... ...a candle and a rope
to hang yourself. I can help you! Don't you want help? [INTENSE DRAFT] [GHOSTLY BREATH] So... ...you exist in darkness. And you want them to be in
darkness, too, don't you? Well, if you won't let me help
you, then let me go! [DEMONIC GROWL] [JACKIE SCREAMS] [FAST BREATHING] [MATCH STRIKING] Help me! Help me! [SHUFFLING] Jackie? [JACKIE SCREAMS DISTANTLY] Jackie! Help me! [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS APPROACH] [HISS] ALFRED: Jackie? VERA: How did it seal itself? ALFRED: Here. [WOODEN BOARDS BREAKING] VERA: Oh my gosh. I don't know what
happened, Wes. It was like the room sealed
itself with Jackie still inside. Alfred had to take
her to the hospital. [ON PHONE]
WES: Are you alone right now? No, Aunt Jo dropped
Ethan off a little while ago, and Chris and Guy
stayed behind to help. WES: I'm coming
home right now. No, you can't afford
to get in trouble. WES: I don't care. This thing was too
powerful for Jackie. I want to make sure you
and Ethan are alright. It's fine. Strangely enough, I
actually feel good. Really, I do. With everything Jackie's done,
the house feels so much better. WES: Yeah, well don't
get used to it, because we aren't staying. I know. I know, we had such high
hopes for this place. I guess I'll see you tonight. WES: Hey, call me if
anything happens. I will. WES: Alright. Well... ...bye, Vera. Bye, Wes. [DOOR OPENS] Guy? Where you going? Is Guy out here? Oh yeah, he just went around
the back of the house. Oh, great. If you hurry, you might
be able to catch him. What's wrong? Alfred just called. He said we need to bring
the box to the lab ASAP. Okay. Well, if you
need me, I'll be inside. CHRIS: Thanks! Guy? Guy? Guy? Guy? What is he? Ugh! Guy, what are you
doing out here? Are you okay? What are you doing? Guy? Guy, what's wrong? [BONES CRACKING] [NERVOUS BREATH] [CHRIS GASPS] [PHONE RINGS] Hello? [ON PHONE]
ALFRED: Vera? It's Alfred. Hi, Alfred. How's Jackie? She's fine, but... Vera, I need you to
listen to me right now. [ON PHONE]
VERA: Did Guy and Chris
get the box back to you? ALFRED: What? VERA: Chris told me that you called earlier
and asked them to bring the box back. Vera, I never called them. [STATIC] Alfred, I think we have
a bad connection. Vera? Vera, I need you to
leave the house. Right now. [STATIC INTENSIFIES] We're on our way, now. [DIAL TONE] Alfred? Wait here. You think I'm going to
let you face this alone? - I almost lost you once, I am not risking it again.
- Look, you won't. This family needs us both. Come on. [KNOCKING ON FRONT DOOR] [DOOR UNLOCKS] Are you guys okay? [VERA GASPS] Ethan, wake up. What is it? We're leaving, now! Come on. Go back. Go, go, go! [TV SWITCHES ON] [STATIC] VERA: What? Come here, come here, come here! [BANGING ON DOOR] [PANTING] [BANGING CONTINUES] [PHANTOM EXHALE]
[VERA SHRIEKS] [LOUD SCRATCHING] It's okay. [TV STATIC CONTINUES] [VERA & ETHAN CRYING] VERA: Help! Please,
somebody help, please! WES: Vera?
VERA: Help! [VERA CONTINUES CRYING] Vera! - WES: Vera? Ethan?
- VERA: Help, please! Somebody, help please! VERA: Help! [DOOR RATTLES]
Vera! Vera, open the door!
It's me! [DEAFENING SCRATCHING]
[VERA & ETHAN CRYING] Open the door! Vera, Ethan, open the door! No! Come on. No! [WES GASPS] Vera! Vera, help! Help me, Vera! Someone help, please! Stop! Help! Vera! [TV SHUTS OFF]
[SCRATCHING CEASES] [VERA CHUCKLES] Hey, it's okay. It stopped.
We're safe! We're safe. [DOOR CREAKING]
[BLADE SHARPENING] Ethan, c'mon. We've
got to go, okay? Alright, stay behind me. [SHARPENING CONTINUES] Wes, is that you? Wes, are you down there? Wes? Wes, say something.
Is everything alright? [SHARPENING STOPS] Come on. Okay, wait here. No, Vera. Let's just go. I can't leave him behind. [NERVOUS BREATHS] Wes? [LIGHT FOOTSTEPS] [VERA GASPS]
[WES LAUGHS] [VERA GRUNTS] [POUNDING ON DOOR] WES: Vera, wait! You can't do this to me. Don't leave me down here!
He's... He's gonna kill me! Vera, please open the door. I'll come back with help. No, wait. Don't leave me! We love you. Vera... WES: You can't leave
without me! I won't let you! [SLAM] [VERA BREATHES HEAVILY]
[WES CACKLES] No! Get it open! Get it open!
Get it open! VERA: He's... he's coming! - ETHAN: Get it open! Get it open!
- VERA: Ethan, open the door. Open the door! Ethan, run! Run and hide.
Quick!, quick, quick! Go, faster, go! [VERA GRUNTS] It didn't have to be
like this, Vera. I wanted a family again.
One of my own flesh and blood. We could've continued living normal
lives like nothing was different. You would have adjusted and
forgotten all about the old Wes, but you've given me
no other choice. [HARD SLAP] Vera? Vera, run! Run! Run... run!
[WES CHUCKLES] [HAIR SNAGS] [HAIR RIPS]
[VERA SHRIEKS] [WES SHOUTS IN PAIN] [ETHAN PANTING] [HEAVY FOOTSTEPS UPSTAIRS] [WES CHORTLES] [LOCK LATCHES] I'll be back, sister dear. [WES CHUCKLES] [DOOR RATTLES] No... No! [DOOR RATTLES] No! [SOBBING] [INTENSE BREATH] Come on. Ethan! [LOW, TENSE BREATHING] [BREATHING INTENSIFIES] [BONES POPPING] [VERA GASPS] [VERA SCREAMS] VERA: Wes, no! Vera! - VERA: Wes, stop it!
- ALFRED: Vera! - VERA: Just drop it already, drop it! Stop!
- JACKIE: Vera, we're coming! Vera! - JACKIE: Oh, this door!
- ALFRED: Hang on, Vera! We're coming! - JACKIE: Vera!
- ALFRED: Push. [WHOOSH] [GHOSTLY EXHALE]
VERA: Wes, let go! VERA: You're killing
him, Wes! Stop! No! - VERA: Wes, stop!
- ALFRED: Vera? - JACKIE: Ethan?
- ALFRED: I think they're up here! I'm warning you.
Let him go. I... I don't want to do this. Vera! Vera, stop. He's killing him. Remember, this isn't Wes. Wes, I mean it. If you kill him... ...you're playing right into
the entity's hands. You're... ...you're just giving him
another soul. JACKIE: Vera, honey, just... Just put it down. It'll be alright. Not until Ethan's safe. Vera, listen to her. - Just hand it over.
- Just... Just give it to me, Vera. ALFRED: Don't let it get
inside your head. [ETHAN CHOKES]
[WES CHUCKLES] [WES LAUGHS] I hope you know
what you're doing. Quick, hold him down. Get the ring. [GRUNTING] If we can get this ring
back to the university, then we can remove its energy, and that will destroy Thaddeus. Wes, you can't give up. - You're stronger than he is.
- No! Don't let it have you. Wes! Don't give up. - You can't give into it.
- Wes. [WES PANTING] Wes stop it! You've got to reach out to him. Please, Wes. I know you're in there, but
you have to force him out. Wes, don't give up. - Wes.
- You're stronger than he is, Wes! Wes, you're the only
one that can stop this. Save your family. Wes! We're all here for you. I love you, Wes, and Ethan loves
you, but you have to stop. [WES GRUNTS] Wes, no! No. No, it's me! It's me! I'm so sorry, Vera. I'm so sorry. Take off the ring. I can't. He's too strong. No. You have to. Do it. Now! [DEMONIC HISS]
[WES YELLS] - WES: Help!
- Wes? WES: Vera, help me! VERA: Wes! [WES PANTING] Where did he go? I don't know. WES: No. I'm sorry. [VERA CRIES] [RING CLINKS] Where'd it go, Wes? Wes? No! No, Wes, wake up! You have to come back.
["SHINE ON, HARVEST MOON" PLAYS] [VERA CHOKES] [THADDEUS CHUCKLES] [VERA GASPING] [THADDUES LAUGHS] ETHAN: Thaddeus! [EXPLOSION] [VERA EXHALES] [THADDEUS GROANS] [WES GASPS] [PICKAXE CLANKS] ETHAN: Vera? [VERA COUGHS] [VERA SOBS] [WES CHUCKLES] It's me. [VERA LAUGHS] - VERA: Hey, it's okay.
- We did it. WES: On three. One... Two... Three! [ALFRED GRUNTS] So, what's next? Oh, um... we started
therapy as a family, and it's been a tremendous help. And we found a new house. Oh, that's good. Yeah, it's closer to work for Wes
and school for Ethan, and... once things settle in, I'm going to go back
to college in the spring. That is wonderful.
Good for you. [WES SIGHS] Well... everything's set. Uh, come on Ethan,
we've got to get going. [WES CHUCKLES]
I'll go get him. Okay. [DOOR CREAKS] He doesn't remember anything. Well, maybe that's for the best. With Thaddeus destroyed,
this house is dead. Yeah, he's the happiest I've
seen him in a long time. It's almost like he's a
completely different person. [DOOR OPENS] VERA: Hey, finished? WES: Yep, all done. JACKIE: Well, it looks
like this is good-bye. Alright, tell them bye, Ethan. Good-bye. - Good-bye, young man.
- Good-bye. Thank-you. We'll keep in touch. Oh, I'm sure we'll see each other
much sooner than you think. You ready? Let's go. [KEY JINGLES] [WES LAUGHS] What's wrong? I forgot my briefcase. Is that all? Can't you just
let the movers get it? No, it's got the stuff for
my big story in it. Wes, I really don't want you
going back into the house. You heard Jackie,
the house is safe. It'll be fine. Just don't be long, alright? It'll only take a second. I can't wait for you
to read my story. [DOOR CREAKS] [VERA SIGHS] [CAR HORN BLASTS] Something's wrong, Ethan.
I'm going to go check on him. Vera, no. I'm scared. He could've gotten hurt. I'll be back,
I promise. [DOOR SQUEAKS] Wes, you alright? What's taking so long? [DOOR CREAKS] Wes? Answer me! [DISTANT THUD] Wes, is that you? I'll kill you if this is a joke! [TENSE BREATHING] Wes? Are you in there? [DOOR WHINES] [PAPERS RUSTLE] [BREATHING INTENSIFIES] [PAPER CRINKLES] [LATCH SQUEAKS] [LID CREAKS] [THUD] What do you think? Wes! I said, what do you think? VERA: No. No it's impossible.
We destroyed the ring. That you did. I really must thank Ethan
personally for saving my life. Stay back. Why? I just want to get my
family out of here. Why? We wanted a new beginning. We're home. Stay away from me, Wes! Stay back! Part of the family,
part of the house. VERA: No... No! [PHONOGRAPH WINDING] [RECORD SPINNING] [STATIC] ["SHINE ON, HARVEST MOON" PLAYS] [MATCH STRIKES] "The night was mighty dark
so you could hardly see" "For the moon refused to shine" "(the moon refused to shine)" "Couple sitting underneath a willow tree" "For love they pine" "Little maid was kinda
